Ahh OK, I stand corrected, thought it was earlier then that. mate i think you are right he was injured in the semi final, but i dont think it was diagnosed as not too bad and he then played in the PSC final but only lasted 15 minutes or so... hasnt played since then

I think we need to be careful not to expect to much of mrdja too soon. he hasnt played in over a year and he doesnt need the added pressure of being heralded as a goal machine straight away

There was an article in The Australian yesterday where Mrdja said exactly that, ifonly I kept the link.

figjamMariners sweat on fit Mrdja By David Lewis September 05, 2006 NO goals, no points and still no Nick Mrdja. These are the bald and worrying stats for Central Coast coach Lawrie McKinna as he seeks to refloat the Mariners when A-League leader Queensland comes calling on Saturday night. Absent for over a year with an intractable knee injury and yet to play an A-League match, Mrdja's return is being likened to a second coming on the Coast, where he is seen as having the power to turn water to wine and crosses into goals. Amid the gloom of the club's dire start to the new campaign, McKinna has been told that Mrdja could be fit enough for a place on the bench for Sunday week's visit to Melbourne. It's the silver lining to a cloud that is threatening to screen out the light on a club which has just two home matches from its first seven this season and is endeavouring to reprise its grand final adventures. With six goals in four pre-season starts last year, former Perth Glory bounty hunter Mrdja is the ready-made answer to McKinna's prayers following Sunday's 2-0 slump in Perth. But with Stewart Petrie and Adam Kwasnik firing blanks. Mrdja warned yesterday that rushing him back too soon could be counter-productive. "I'm close but there's still soreness in the knee (following surgery to correct cartilage damage three months ago) and my right quad muscle has shrunk to a third of the size of the left," he said. "I need to regain strength and I have no match fitness - all I've managed in the past year is two training sessions with the club." Mrdja scoffs at suggestions the Mariners are impotent in the final third of the field without his accuracy. "That's a joke - the goals will come whether I'm in the side or not," he said.

Fire up lads and lasses!
"Bleiberg questions Mariners by: Marc Fox Sportal Queensland coach Miron Bleiberg has cranked up the tension ahead of Saturday night's clash with the goal-less Mariners by questioning their capacity to make a second grand final appearance in as many seasons.
From his position atop the Hyundai A-League table with a 100 per cent record in the opening two rounds, Bleiberg speculated why the Central Coast side would be able to continue their impressive inaugural season performances after losing defenders Michael Beauchamp and Dean Heffernan.
The pair played in all bar a handful of the Mariners matches and were named in the team of the year before agreeing season-long loans at Bundesliga outfit Nuremburg.
Heffernan caught the eye with a remarkable eight goals from left-back while Beauchamp earned a call-up to the Socceroos World Cup squad under Guus Hiddink.
But Bleiberg, overlooking the recruitment of Tony Vidmar and Vuko Tomasevic as well as the full-time signings of Jamie McMaster and Bradley Porter, maintained the Roar are better placed this term to end a sequence of four consecutive draws between the sides.
"In my book, the Central Coast Mariners played well last year," Bleiberg said. "But they've lost their best two players and haven't replaced them."
"So why should they be on the top?"
"We've improved and their personnel go down a bit I think."
"I'm looking forward to this game. The mathematical equation should be better for us if we've improved and they haven't improved."
"I'm more confident to play them this time than I was last year."
However, Bleiberg conceded the trip to the Central Coast remains a potentially perilous one especially given coach Lawrie McKinna's current predicament.
His side has now failed to find the net in 353 minutes of league action, although was considered unfortunate to finish on the wrong end of the 1-0 scoreline against Sydney on the opening weekend.
McKinna himself, however, admitted the 2-0 defeat to Perth last Sunday was one of the club's worst ever performances.
"Can you imagine what's been said in the other dressing room?" Bleiberg said. "They haven't scored a goal."
"It's their first home game and they're bottom of the ladder. They'll be ready for Real Madrid and Manchester United let alone Queensland Roar."
"(But) we've played eight games so far and we have four clean sheets. We conceded only four goals in the whole of pre-season."
"We have a sound defence."
"If they play against us the way they played against Perth, I don't think we have much problem.""

He isn't exactly telling an untruth though is he?! Queensland may have improved but not enough to bridge that interminable canyon between us
