Owens completly surprised me. his workrate was impressive and he can cross very well he was a near MOM. Simon was great. seemed confident and does need to bulk up a bit so he can use his great turning skills while holding off a player. But the main thing that impressed me was Vukovic's kicking. i didn't see one ball go out the sidelines or any rash clearances. much improved.

Simon was awesome and yes kevrenor, great to see young Macca get his 1 min debut! I reckon he would still be happy for the 'play bonus' going into his account I think!

I'm really glad Matty got a full 90 to show what he can do, he played his game and the way we played overall suited him.
I thought we were very lucky. Given the injuries and suspensions the route one style was excusable but with Johnny on board I hope we can pass it around a bit more. It was ugly but in the end it was very effective and Wellington went out of the game.
Kwas was forced to come on and you could see he was barely mobile. Normally he would run at defenders but this time he would just cross it early or just lay it off. Despite that, when he was needed back in defence, he would make the sprint back. Credit to him for that - excellent attitude.
Sasho, Sasho, Sasho. After that first one on one, I thought it wouldn't be our day, but then after the penalty miss, I had the feeling that he would come back and make up for it. Thank goodness he did!
How good was Elrich's goal and also Glen Moss was great for them. Wellington are my second team this year - I hope they make the four.
In the end, boy was that a big result, a bonus three points really, and I just hope now we get Wilko and Aloisi on board for the Sydney game, have a full team available sooner rather than later and start building up towards the finals with some good football. Top of the league!

Yea, Sasho's not having one of his better games. Oh Dear! Foot in mouth! ;D I stand by it, that one on one was shocking and the less said about the penalty the better (not as bad as Craig Moore's mind you, that was hillariously woeful), mind you I am being a tad harsh, he did set up the first, and did well enough on the second, guess I just have high standards of Saso. Glad he scored that one! Nice to go 3 clear again

Sashos work rate is awesome.Never stoppped running and his goal was tetament to his attitude of never giving up. 100% agree, not entirely sure where people get the idea that sasho is a lazy goal poacher, he is more of an attacking midfielder with us, i rarely see him let a defender keep the ball without a challenge even if he has to run at them (hello our first goal)

I think Matty Simon will be of similar ilk.Bustling, strong forward likes to mix it. The only people who say Sasho is lazy are disgruntled Sydney fans who have realised Zdrilic is still on their books.Fancy letting Sasho go and keeping that donkey.

Ahmed Elrich........... what a signing for them, and what a goal. I hope he continues to produce the goods for a club that needs to succeed, and based on what I've seen so far, deserve it a lot more than some others going around at the moment. *glares indignantly at Sydney and Melbourne* Greg Owens - what a gun!!!! I'd been aching for him to get a full 90 since he arrived here, and boy did he prove he was worth the wait. Just a note to anyone concerned though - don't have the poor boy play Right Back. Again. Ever. We all know why. Phenomenal workrate though....... technically adept and well up for the harder stuff in midfield. Just imagine a midfield of him, Tommy, Gumps, and Kwasnik running around, laying off beautiful through balls and tap ons to Alosi and Petrovski. *goes all giddy at the exciting thought of it all*

McKinna 'over the moon' with win 22/10/2007 9:45:05 AM Jamie Douglas at Westpac Stadium Sportal Central Coast Mariners coach Lawrie McKinna was 'over the moon' to come away from Westpac Stadium in Wellington with three competition points on Sunday.
The Mariners edged the Wellington Phoenix 2-1 courtesy of Sasho Petrovski's 91st minute strike when he pounced on a defensive blunder to beat Phoenix goalkeeper Glen Moss and keep the visitors at the top of the Hyundai A-League standings.
McKinna was full of praise for his side afterwards, considering he barely had 11 fit players to start the game with. The fact the Mariners went the distance was a credit to the players' character.
"Character-wise for us it's a great result. Coming here and getting a result with 11 fit players is fantastic," McKinna said.
"It was a pleasing win that I think we deserved.
"Tonight was a team performance. It wasn't going to be always flashy but there was some good stuff played – by both teams – but it was the character tonight. We're away from home, down on numbers and we've got three points."
As well as Petrovski bouncing back from the disappointment of missing a second half penalty to bag the winner, the effort put in by an ill Andrew Clark before he was substituted late in the first half epitomised the way the team pulled together.
"He [Clark] was vomiting just before the game, he was throwing up in the toilets as we were walking out on the park," McKinna said.
"He had a bit of sickness and a bit of diarrhoea - he was a bit dehydrated. It finished up his hammies just went a wee bit, probably, due to that."
McKinna conceded that before the game one competition point would have been enough from Wellington.
"We said before the game getting a draw here is fair. Most teams coming here if they said they'd get a draw they'd be happy …. We probably ended up just edging a win but [I'm] over the moon to get three points."
Goal scoring hero Petrovski said he quickly put the penalty miss aside.
"I was disappointed in missing it obviously …. But I thought after that it brought the best out in me – I never put my head down and neither did all the other boys, everyone was pretty encouraging.
"We just kept battling and we worked for the full 90 minutes plus and in the end I guess our rewards, our battle, our passion, our guts, got us over the line."
For Phoenix coach Ricki Herbert the result was clearly disappointing, but the club had to move on and prepare for a three-game road trip to Adelaide, Perth and Queensland.
"I thought we had a decent first half – probably the best 45 we've had – and to throw that away at the death …. I thought we were decent today, but, punished," Herbert said.
"It's just a matter of refocusing now. Adelaide away – they're in decent form, they're a good side.
"I think we've shown all the way along that we're as good as any team in the league, but the costly mistakes at critical times are making life a bit tough for us at the moment.

That effort from Clark is exceptional then! I hope he hasn’t tweaked it too badly, but jeepers, what a trooper.
That’s a warning to the rest of the league. Don’t expect us to lie down. Don’t expect us to give up. Don’t expect us to let points get away or stop fighting before the death. There’ll be no meek capitulations, no effort saved for another day.
That’s something for us as fans too – we know these boys will do anything they can to win the league, we’ve got to match that effort and do anything we can to support them.
Some of the work yesterday was pretty inspiring, and you know, Kwas’s effort too – replacing one broken man with another and he still gave everything he had… you can’t fault that. So much heart in these boys and in this club – no wonder Aloisi wanted to come to us.

CC Penalty - was that a penalty my first reaction was yes, but when i looked at the replay it looked like Simon just stuffed up.
Not trying to be a troll, it is a legitimate question.
Has anyone got vision?

Has anyone got vision? seen them given for worse but my first thought was penalty, replay suggests a push IMO but it was 50/50 - didn't decide the game thankfully.

I think Simon's did an excellent job on milking that penalty and injuring the phoenix player on the way down i didn't think there was enough in it for a penalty IMO.
I was more concerned a bit later in the game when phoenix were denied a spot kick i thought was bout 50/50 chance i think was boogs had more in it then Simon's effort anyway i think we deserved the win and deserved a 50/50 result to go our way with the refs after recent weeks. great effort all the boys that was inspirational. I'm gonna FARKIN FIRE UP HARD FOR U LOT NEXT WEEK.
