mmmmmm
Kwasnik = 24 years old, HAL goals = 11, had a pretty good season to date IMO and is on the up
Gumps = 32 years old (33 next month), HAL goals = 2, been very poor this season IMO and is winding down his career
I love Gumps, he's exactly the type of role model this club needs and the type of person I would want my kids to look up to, but I personally think he has offered all he can for the Mariners on the pitch......it's just an opinion.
Next time you watch Gumps watch how many times he loses the ball and runs around like a headless chicken not challenging for the ball.
DJ,
Gumpey hasn't played fantastically well so far this year apart from saving us against Adelaide (?) when he came on as a sub and set up the goal. The important thing is that the bloke is quality. Kwasnik is going pretty well, but he doesn't have a very high bar to be measured against over previous seasons.
The reality is that he will never be as good a player as Gumps or Tommy. For me he is a useful squad player.
Gumps always challanges for the ball, the so called headless chicken routine..is called closing down space and putting pressure on your opponents. He does this better than anyone else in out team. As for passing to our opponents...they all do it far too frequently included probably our best player so far Jedi.
I find it amazing that the guy who has been our best player since our inception is being viewed as inferior to a guy who really IS a headless chook.
wombat - your entitled to an opinion as am I and that's fine, this is 1 thing that makes the game so good.
IMO we have had better players than Gumps since our inception, Wilko and Danny would be ahead of Gumps I believe.
I guess I look to the future and the way players are progressing....not at what they may have done in the past....as I said I love Gumps but at 33, someone like Owens could fill his position quite easily for the next yr or 2.
Gumps does not challenge for the ball everytime thou.
