For a city of 4 million in one of their biggest home games of the season, 18 436 is terrible. No excuses.

Melbourne had way more than us in the away end, but when we play there we have more people around the ground, so possibly about the same.
But full credit to Melbourne for taking that many. Not full credit to their team, they played boring as hell. Muscat and Brebs content to cruise around the back of midfield doing the passing their backs could be doing, and the one midfielder who should be connecting the midfield and attack, Hernandez, doesn't seem to be up to it. They should drop Love and play Caceres from the start.

FFA to investigate incidents
By Philip Henderson October 07, 2007
FOOTBALL Federation Australia will tomorrow investigate several alleged off-field incidents from Melbourne Victory's controversial 1-0 win over Sydney FC at the Sydney Football Stadium.
Sydney fans reportedly threw bottles at referee Mark Shield as he was escorted from the field by police on Saturday night with home supporters upset the experienced official had sent off Steve Corica in the 25th minute for a challenge on Victory defender Steve Pantelidis.
There were also media reports about an altercation between rival supporters before the game, plus claims a flare was ignited.
An FFA spokesman today said A-League officials will examine reports from venue officials and the referee from the match, as they do after every game.
Sydney boss Branko Culina may also come under scrutiny for comments made to the referee, with the FC boss reportedly saying to Shield as he headed towards the tunnel: "If the police need to escort you, it's not a good sign."
With all A-League coaches receiving a memo from the FFA last week about not abusing officials, Culina was far more wary about his comments over the Corica send off in the post-match press conference.
"I am not going to comment anymore about the referee because I can't afford to pay the fines," he said.
The incidents capped a fiery weekend of action in the A-League, with today's New South Wales derby between Central Coast and Newcastle in particular serving up no shortage of controversy.
The Jets snatched a dramatic 1-1 draw in the top-of-the-table clash in Gosford, reducing the Mariners' lead at the A-League summit to three points.
Jets coach Gary van Egmond followed Culina's lead post-match in not wanting to criticise referee Matthew Breeze over his handling of the game which saw six Newcastle players booked to the Mariners' one.
"Basically Breezy's refereed it the best way he can and whatever decisions he's made is the right decision because he's the ref," van Egmond said.
"Do we have a review board of those decisions? Is there someone coaching referees? I don't know if there is.
"I don't think it was a pre-meditated thing that there was going to be six yellow cards to one, it was just the circumstances that there was and just the way things turned out."
Jets forward Joel Griffiths was perhaps lucky to have received only a yellow card in the fourth minute after he appeared to strike linesman Alex Glasgow.
Van Egmond, though, was more concerned about Breeze's decision to let play continue after Mariners goalkeeper Danny Vukovic appeared to have brought down Griffiths outside the area early in the second half.
"We got a memo this week about making sure we don't abuse referees and linesman ... all we want is some consistency.
"I'm sure if Breezy has a look at it again he might be a little bit upset with the decision he made.
"It happens in a fleeting moment, but it's what you're paid for.
"Everyone is accountable on the field. Players are accountable, coaches are accountable, administrators are accountable and referees have got to be accountable."
The result sees the Mariners move to 14 points, with the Victory now on 11 points ahead of the Jets (10).
Adelaide United (8) tonight slipped into fourth on goal difference after its 0-0 draw with Perth Glory, with Wellington Phoenix (8) dropping out of the top four after its 2-1 loss to Queensland Roar in Brisbane on Friday.
The Roar and Sydney are also on eight points, with Perth still winless on the bottom of the ladder with four points.

Very restrained response from GVE about the Danny "incident". Nailed on foul TBH.
As for Branko, what a Griffiths that man is. Corica extended his leg in a lunge and deserved the straight red. End of.

*grumbles* And all I see across the mainstream media tonight is "fans behave badly, hooligans mar Sydney/Melbourne clash, blah blah blah".
Wonder what the Terrorgraph will have to say tomorrow. Probably call for the cessation of the A-League and for all football fans to be extradited to England. It amazes me day after day how all of the biff and shit at the AFL and NRL goes ignored, but when it gets done here, we're the worst people in the world.
Having said that though, Melbourne bring all this on themselves. Reading their forum is basically a pissing contest about how great flares are and how they're going to smash Sydney week after week. Maybe a game or two behind closed doors might make them wake up to themselves AND TO CUT THIS SHIT OUT FOR THE GOOD OF THE LEAGUE.
Same for the Squadron as well - wake up to yourselves and acknowledge that this is somewhat a family game as well. I'm pretty sure that Mum and little Charlie would feel delightfully wonderful about going to another game safe in the fact that some dickhead bogan away fans are going to make their afternoon a misery.
FFS IDIOTS, STOP IT __NOW__!!!!! DO YOU WANT A LEAGUE TO GO TO AT ALL?!??!?!?

Deserved a red Yeah exactly. The whole time Corica had his eyes on the man and he nailed him, studs-up, on the thigh. Shield got it spot on IMO.

FFS IDIOTS, STOP IT __NOW__!!!!! DO YOU WANT A LEAGUE TO GO TO AT ALL?!??!?!? mate the thing Newcastle and Victory supporters have in common is that they think of their rep before the good of the A-League. This needs to stop. Besides a couple of pissed prepubescent bogans walking through our bay very early in the day, i didnt see any trouble from the away fans. was there any trouble at all? They had a good turnout last night and so they should, they have a bigger football community than us and its good that footballs going well in Newcastle. Congrats as you guys shook the stands. IMO i think that the Coast needs to get used to these supporter groups coming, making noise and really having a go, and we must have the spark to give something back. In the past the stadium and our fans have been pumping when Syd and Newie have come here, but last night it took a bit to get started. Is it the allocation of games on Sunday? because im thinking Saturday nights everyones a bit more revved up.

Lets just say the scum fan struck the mariners fan 1st (mariners fans name omitted, he can post if he feels the need) If this is the same incident as the one I saw on the walk from the Gosford Hotel, then that kid was VERY stupid. You've gotta have a death-wish if you run over to taunt a large group of opposition supporters on your own. I think it is fair to say that both groups of supporters have an element of their group which are a little 'excitable', so to speak. I think the key thing here is for those of us who have some sort of seniority within our respective groups to step in when those people get a little too fired up and try to be a little too brave in front of their mates. We had some incidents last night where certain unnamed people were getting hot under the collar, but others stepped in to quell things before it got too heated. Look forward to seeing you guys again at the next derby match.
