Motherf***ers. Im over caring about media coverage. Nothing is going to stop what they say, nothing, so why bother? 1 million letters sent in complaint would only have them saying that we are inciting violence or some shit, so im over it. They can all f*** off and kiss my fat ass in 20 years when the other codes are f***ing washed up and nothing compared to football

To the ABC:
I write with extreme concern regarding the amount of prejudice football fans are currently suffering in the media.
As I'm sure you're aware, a few minor incidents have been blown out of proportion by virtually all aspects of the media, who conveniently fail to remember that football suffers from far fewer evictions and incidents (both at the ground and at venues before and after the match) than rugby league, AFL, and the cricket - however there are a few in the Australian media who are quite happy to ignore this fact while they engage in their petty attempts to destroy football.
At the moment, football has quite a bit of bad publicity, and much of it is undeserved. No football fan would claim the crowds are perfect, but they are far better behaved than other codes.
Furthermore, a number of articles have been accompanied by images which often don't show what the article suggests - often images of singing, smiling fans are captioned with statements of abuse, for instance. The football public is sick and tired of the deliberate deception and unjustified attacks by the media.
As I assume any journalist knows, every story has 2 sides - however only one side is ever discussed in the media. Much of the information regarding the MV-SFC matsh of last weekend in your article is generally regarded as being false; there are a lot of stories and exaggerations which largely blow the weekend out of proportion. While you are protected by saying 'reports state', that still does not justify the undeserved damage you are doing to football's image by implying that these events did, in fact, happen. Most reports from both sides indicate the police were largely at fault in inciting the fans and capsicum spray was unnecessary. This is the first report I've heard of a tram window being broken, and banging on cars may not be as sinister as it sounds.
Upon saying all that, I have to ask - why did you include the image of the Marinators in your article? You've placed an image of a peaceful supporters group next to comments about misbehaving fans - the connotation is that the photo demonstrates fans misbehaving, when it clearly doesn't.
While I hope the intention was not to relate the image to misbehaving fans, the football public are getting sick and tired of the undeserved bad publicity, be it from malice, or simple carelessness (misreported facts, or an unintentionally misrepresented image).
I hope you can take my concerns into consideration, particularly regarding the use of the image in that article.
As with Bearinator, I'm over getting too worked up over the media. Journalism in Australia is an absolute disgrace, and that's in all areas. Be interesting to see what the reply is...they say it could take 4 weeks for a reply.

Wonder if Corey Davis knows that one of his photos of the Marinators is being misrepresented within the context of an article? (he owns the copyright to the photo I presume)
Maybe someone who knows his phone number should give him a ring and let him know of the ABC's use.
If he had any control of the use of that photo, surely he wouldn't let it be used in conjunction with a misleading tag.

Corey Davis lost the rights of use with the sale to Getty, who now own the copyright.

The best way to deal with the media, is not to tell them to stop with article, cause then they know you read it and pay attention. But to request more articles on football, more coverage. If every fan of the league wrote to the papers asking to see more football coverage they would get it. Also these articles would dissapear.
The media loves controversy. Dont buy into it. Just keep asking for more positive football coverage. Expansions to "football fever" etc etc. Ask for more details of the a-league on the evening news. Etc etc

Corey Davis lost the rights of use with the sale to Getty, who now own the copyright. OK fair enough, he has to make a living out of that footage he shoots. But as we've now seen, these photos can be misused, and it can make one very distrustful of the professional that took the photo, and the organisation who bought the rights. I urge those who are approached by him to consider where any photo may end up, and the purpose it may be used for. Obviously, Corey can take whatever photos he can snap at the ground as it's a public place. But that doesn't mean anyone has to co operate with him, give him tips on where to go to get the best shot, or give him some pose he may want. You don't have to be aggressive towards him, but at the same time - if this issue of the photo being misused is annoying to you - you can make him know you prefer your photo not to be taken or not want to co operate. In the end he'll get the message I'm sure if enough folks turn their back on him. "Are you paparazzi in disguise!"

Many thanks for all the ideas about the media, Jesus it was you that send me in this direction so thanks I have been through a range of what to do set web pages with long list of names to email and on reflection I don't think that is the answer. By chance I came across a online sports page covering all sports and its interactive in that a journo writs and article and people can simply read, or read and add a comment. The comments people add are not the short one liners like “Up your’s with a rubber hose” they are in the main well written. So you get to read other peoples comments not to dissimilar to forums. On the right hand side of the site are people’s comments and they keep a list of what is talked about the most etc. Readers contribute many of the articles again not to dissimilar to a forum. Now here is my idea this type of site is the future of media reporting. Right now it is owned by Rugger boys who go on endlessly about how great Union is and how weak soccer ( as they call it is). WE CAN BE IN CHARGE OF OUR OWN MEDIA BY SIMPLY POSTING TO FOOTBALL STORIES AND WRITING OUR OWN FOOTBALL STORIES. You could even place in thread that you have placed a story so go and comment. Below is the site and am sure its not related to Football in spite of its name. Also beneath the site I have listed Mariners, Victory, Yellow Fever & SBS forum stats. They are impressive and we can fight back by controlling the future of football online. ON line sports site address. www.theroar.com.auForum stats as of 10:00 Thursday Mariners. Topics: 5,502 - Total Posts: 113,734, Total Members: 1,412 Victory Threads: 32,648, Posts: 1,248,140, Members: 5,249 Yellow fever Our users have posted 101,860 Posts in 3,068 Topics in 12 Forum(s) We have 3,709 Forum Members Newcastle.
