we had 4500 didnt we? for the 1st NZ match. that was with rain too. nah dont think so. our solid base of 5500 has always been there i think. i think we'd manage to go below that on a rainy thursday night though.

Wasn't Fathers Day our worst crowd? Shocking rain and supporters that don't travel. I'm bloody pleased we've never had a Thursday game!

As Bob Graham said the other week on TV, the Mariners per head of population are the most supported team in the league. From around 300 000 people we average about 6500 fans. Sydney for example attract 15 000 from about 4 million.

Got a couple of new pearls with tonight's new record crowd:
1. Our last (regular season) crowd was more than double our first - can't see anybody else doing that!
2. Of the best 4 crowds that either us or Newcastle (as the non-major cities) have achieved, 3 of them are now ours. (Although Newcastle's was the largest, that was at their first home game and they've then not reached that number again. (In fact, same as Sydney and New Zealand have done).
