The singing and chanting from both camps looked amazing from the stands last night. It was good to see the cove show up the way they did and contribute so much to the atmosphere.
We really needed a night like that to get some confidence back in the team and also bring the crowds back. There is nothing better than running north in the second half with strong crowd support to bring the boys home. When we score in situations like that is sounds like the roof is going to cave in.
I have no issue in singing the praises of an opposition team, player, or supporter group when i think its deserved. How good was that free kick from Carbone! Before he took it he carefully counted his steps back and angle off the ball. That was no ass, it was pure class. I was surprised he came off the field.

As much as i would love to sit with the crew at the back of the goal on game day, i dont think my young kids are ready for the experience yet.
I would however like to make a simple suggestion on how you guys can boost the crowd numbers with practically no effort at all.
Pass the word around and lay down the challenge to the crew to bring one new person to the game this weekend who hasnt been to a game before. The "BRING A BUDDY" idea.
Lets face it, we all have friends in the outside world who have probably never been to a game before. Each crew member, just one person. Its not much at all.
Who knows, some people may enjoy themselves enough to come back again.
Imagine if the whole stadium did this!!

Comments; 1) There appeared to be good representation in bay 16 tonight. I chants where heard all night 2) The banner looked fantastic. 3) The ohh, ahh chant was loud and clear at the half way line. The drums appeared to work really well throughout the night. We referred to it as the jungle chant. 4) Iam 37 years old and got asked for ID from from a security guard at the beer stand. I referred to him as Mr Pimples and asked my 13 year old son to hold the popcorn while i went for my photo id in my wallet. 5) I thought the crowd would be larger. I guess the team needs to be performing well on the pitch week in week out to get the extra 3 to 4 thousand bandwagoners in. 6) We are definantly improving. I couldnt quite understand why Stewart Petrie was in a left midfield position for large portions of the game while browny was on the bench. 7) Danny is developing into a great keeper. He has safe hands in crosses. 8) I think its just a confidence thing now. We are a great team and its not like we are being hammered by the leaders of the comp. I think last night is a good platform to start building off.

We all agree on how poor the ticketing was. I was surprised at how poor.
The tickets we had seemed to isolate us into pockets of a couple hundred people around the ground. Sure we had bays 1-6, but from where i was sitting, even these areas appeared to have pockets of blue in them. I was sitting in a four row block at the back of bay 31 with other mariner supporters right next to the cove.
Overall, we had very little chance of getting the chants up with this shoddy ticketing arrangement. .

On the subject of famous fans. Are you aware of many famous people who graced us with their presence at the football last weekend.
I know of the following - Jimmy Barnes, Gabriel Batistuta, Andrew Johns.

ok, im gettin sick of all the bandwagoners. but im gettin even more sick of all these new threads, that are all about the same thing. most of them are started by newbies on the forum. lets have a look around 1st guys. and if its about something important like travel or tickets, lets leave to the users that have info on them. so we dont have one person asking a question. then a million other people answering, i dont know. Well........... I am man enough to admit that i made a posting on a subject that has been covered in this section of the forum last night. Just something i overlooked I guess. I've only made 50 or so postings on the forum since signing up last september and i believe most have been intelligent comments!! As for being a newbie. Well iam 37 years old, born in gosford hospital. played football for umina my whole life (Over 25 years for umina - never for any other club). seven years as a club administrator, coach or manager. I would regard myself as anything but a newbie. As for comments on travel. I would rather ask the question, than wait for an administrator to read my mind and post the answer to what i am thinking!!

You might be able to save yourself a bit of time and money by getting five or six extraverted outgoing marinators / marinettes to set something up at the top of the stairs inside the stadium opposite the CC leagues club.
As the people role up the stairs, each marinator could get in the the face of the people with with a smile and a kind word, and talk the people into coming round and sitting with you guys for the night. Done in the right way i am sure you will get people to come around. Perhaps a coreflute sign placed in this area which outlines what you guys are about wouldnt hurt either.
Shit, even my wife gave up her blue seat in the stand to lead a marinette parade down to the cove supportors last saturday night to sing marinators songs right in their faces . ...........And she had previously only been to one game before

I do have a suggestion however implementing it for this competition year may be a bit difficult because the local premier league competitions have finished.
I think you should consider recruiting a senior player from each of the soccer clubs on the central coast and using them to recruit / drum up support among other senior players at the club to sit with the marinators each game. I think there are about 20 clubs on the coast and i figure if each representative can get 10 senior players from their club to attend the game and sit in bay 16, your numbers will be boosted by about 200 people each game.
I figure that this is quite achievable since most clubs would have 50 - 70 people in their senior ranks when considering all age sides in addition to the grade teams. Every club has a bunch of young 18 - 24 year olds who i am sure could be recruited for the cause.
i have other ideas but ill save them for another posting.

Arent parashutes made of silk?. I dont know but its the sort of stuff required. You need something strong but will fold up really well.
I am sure a sail maker would have an insight on what is available. With costs ranging from say, $2k to 10K i think you would need to do a but of research on the best material to use.
You certainly dont want to pay $2k for something that would be stuffed in two weeks

I am relatively new to this forum, so i am unsure if i am proposing something that has been entertained before......
I propose we do something a little bigger than a sheet supported by two sticks. What we really need is something larger to make a statement not only in the stadium, but on a national level....
how about a banner large enough to cover the crowd at bay 16. I am envisaging a black cloth passed back over the crowd as the mariners take the field. And on this cloth is a huge skull & cross bones with marinators in some gothic type set along the bottom. Possibly yellow and blue checks down each side.
How to do it? There are a couple of options;
* Possibly a sail maker (there are several on the coast) could manufacture it from a light weight cloth. Something that is not only light to carry and manouvre over the crowd but also folds well and can be carried in say a kit bag. (light nylon possibly)
* Would be relatively simple to make as its just a big rectangle. Skull & cross bones would involve some effort.
* Costs of such a beast could be offset by either the mariners, maybe contributions from the marinators or perhaps a sponsorship arrangement with the manufacturer. (ie maybe advertising at the mariners games - with permission of the powers that be of course).
* Thirdly, if cost is a issue, a cheaper alternative would be to rock down to spotlight, buy a roll of black material (rolls are available about 1500mm wide i think) and get some seamstress to bang something together.
I reckon it would be a pisser.......
What do you people think???

In light of Kevin Muscats elbow into John Hutchinsons head towards the end of the game last friday, i propose a chant which is a modification to an existing for Kevin Muscat (#2)
Number 2, Number 2 Your old, Your through Your not a socceroo... Number 2, Number 2

My personal view would be to keep the bad language out of the chants. Lets face it, we all want more people at the games, and i know that family attendance is a focus of the mariners.
Lets not give people a reason for keeping the kids away from the games.

I agree with comments made in both dibo and Mr Celerys postings.
I think the marinators are tame compared to what i have heard at other games ive attended in the past. Last friday night i cannot recall to many instances of songs that over stepped the boundary in the language department. The whole crowd lifted because of the noise coming from bay 16 in the last 10 minutes of the game.
However, I do think that it is important to keep it as clean as possible and possibly set a standard. Whitty intelligent chants dont need language to be effective.
We all want to see the mariners do well and attact big crowds to the games. Part of this involves the attendance of familys to the games. We dont want to give people a reason for not taking their young familys out to the game on a saturday night.
Mr Celery as for the comment " - Don't like it - don't sit there, end of conversation". I can assure you that you dont need to be sitting in, or near bay 16, to hear whats being sung.
The marinators might be the minority in the crowd ,but they create the majority of the atmospehere at the games. The atmosphere created is what will make people keep coming back for more.
I dont have to many problems with anything i have heard thus far. But lets be aware why its important to continue and strive to maintain a standard.

I thought i would set up this thread so that people could comment on any good coaching/Training DVD resourses they have come across. Anyone who has bought the odd training/Coaching DVD would probably know that there is an awful lot of garbage on the market as well as some excellent resourses (i have both strands in my collection).
DVD's that i have which a worth a wrap are; 1) SIS Modern Defending - Parts 1,2 & 3. These are probably the best DVD's i have come across for teaching defending. The three part series cover individual, group, and team tactics for defence. They involve the German under 16 & 17 youth teams. Well worth getting although you will probably need a de-zoned DVD player as i found it almost impossible to get these DVD's zoned for Australia.
2) GSM Sports - Small Sided Games Available from the CCF website and the world game site. Again i thought that this was a great DVD for small sided games and well worth getting.
DVD's i thought were garbage; 1) SLS Zonal Defending - Some parts of this DVD were OK but generally the whole DVD consists of some yank's commentary on a German v England International on the finer point of each teams defending. I think it was a poor teaching tool. Others may have a different opinion.
Has anyone else come across any good or bad ones??

Does anybody know much about the new National Rugby Union Competition? I believe the competition starts in August and the Central Coast are fielding a team called "Central Coast Rays" out of Bluetongue stadium. Your all probably thinking what i am. August start, National rugby comp, bluetongue stadium, a-league 3 starts in august, mariners home ground, FIELD CONDITION? Does anybody know much about it??
