. although i don't want to bring TWG into this type of thing - i do like their: 'what would you be doing if you weren't a pro footballer?'
. kinda in line with the mariners/marinator question

3 - O'Grady 2 - Jedinak 1 - Petrie . they were my picks mick i just can't decide on the order . can i go 2,2,2 instead? . i think stewie has been a star this year, it hard to believe that some of these guys are nearly 20 years younger than him . his fitness and consistency has been top shelf and crosses deserve to have giving us many more goals

with regard to weeding out the so called undesirables from the bay: . the idea of being the epicentre of noise obviously has merit . maybe you do need to cut your drinking short to get the seats you want - that is what general admission is all about (and what's wrong with watching the guys warm up) . yellow should be worn by everybody not just those in the bay (something i have had recent success with for those around me) . maybe you need to think longer term (maybe next season)and address this issue with the club/stadium (if you have not already) - would you be prepared to pay a little more for reserved seating in the bay. i know my seat is always there waiting for me, because that is what i am paying for . perhaps the club is willing to take expressions of interest now for reserved seats in the bay which could be vetted by the marinators before they are accepted . if the idea builds you can set up your core in the middle of the bay and radiate outwards . using EOI & vetting applicants for next season will not change the ticketting structure until next season and may avoid all these problems in the future

this thread seems to have become about crowd control in bay 16, but anyway i'll join in: . i think the sub-culture is an important note. i don't sit in the bay as i actually enjoy watching the game (halfway, elevated ... awesome) . doesn't mean i am not a hardcore fan and continually scream my tits off for the boys . the chants may be funny, entertaining and sound awesome if you are in amongst it but rarely are they heard (to be adopted) elsewhere in the stadium . occassionally you can hear 'we are the mariners' and 'yellow army' (or uncle lawrie's yellow army) but they stop too soon . often people in the other bays stop making noise to try and listen to what the marinators are singing and then the whole mood changes because they don't actually know or the chant stops . there are only two chants i have heard from the general populous they are 'mariners (clap, clap, clap)' and 'lets go mariners' [which is far too netball for me] . if you want people to adopt songs throughout the stadium keep it simply and it has to keep going for a long time especially when the tension starts to build, often as someone said this is when things die down because the game gets interesting - sorry but the game is always interesting . although it may not seem like it in the bay, the last two weeks IMO the marinators have been outsung by the cove and the shed - not necessarily more noise, but they are more unified and even if all the words can't be made out, the tune is imposing (& i do sit in the east so these guys are further away too) . my advice to involve more people is use the KISS principle and keep it going

.what a bunch of wankers .i saw a quote from aussie sporting/cult hero boony that he thinks that one thing to keep people away from the a-league is violence or hooliganism (based on his english experience) .this is obviously the sort of crap that gets all the publicity and it will keep families away

Personally, i think that rather than passing the blame, anyone who had their site hacked should be looking at the reasons why and try to prevent it in the future. Yes, there are many people out there with no morals and have nothing better to do than stir shit, but the best anyone can do it learn from what happened and try to stop it happening again. Its no use trying to put blame on any one particular group/person, cause all it will do is stir more shit in retaliations. i agree totally with you Angelbabe, it just not worth the time. This is what the idiot what us to do, talk about it. just forget it

peerhaps it waz da murphsta murphs, . i can't believe it was anybody other than a jets fan trying to stir up some emotion up there . us mariners supporters are far more sophisticated, so they can just bugger off

would only come to the a-league as a marquee and on big dollars so i doubt the validity of this story qld and perth are the only clubs withour marquees while the mariners can fit vidmar in the cap to make way for a new marquee . moore and laza?

. to add to midfielders comments:
. it does do much for the credibility of the system you have set up if at the first opportunity you recruit as many 'foreign' players as you can

. and if you are using that as an argument most of the mariners have ethnic origins - it is just that they are still european

. although he sounds like a dick, i also agree with some of what he is saying
. the pace in the player's heads is what needs to step up a notch - maybe its a male thing (difficulty multi-tasking)
. our game yesterday is a case in point, yeah we did well, worked hard and all that but too many times we trapped the ball, looked up thought where we want to go and then ... hang on where did the ball go ... or watching weak passes intercepted in a similar fashion
. i was thinking a similar thing while watching the olyroos play lebanon, if the lebs were up for it probably 90% of the olyroos passes would not have found their man - as it was it looked like a nice passing game, but ....

Then youth players would be out of shape for a-league call-ups . ahhhh ...... good point . bugger it, triple header - start at 5 end sometime after midnight, now thats good value entertainment . or what about the alternate weeks scenario - home games, every week

. not sure whether there would be much sponsorship dollars in either the youth league or womens league - it will require the games to be televised to get your name up in lights
. a look at any womens sport in australia will show it is going to be tough to get the funds to ensure the whole thing doesn't collapse let alone paying the players - netball could be used as a guide as there are a number of similarities
. how about football all year round, womens & youth double header through winter and the mens a-league through summer based on a-league franchises
. alternatively the double header played on 'away weekends' at home

Would be very lopsided bikini, & I'm sure unfair to both the men & women. The women deserve a league to call their own. . i probably wasn't clear but i did mean a mixed competition (as in mixed teams) . but what is the definition of youth? . certainly don't doubt the women deserve their own league and dare i say more deserved than a youth league, but the cost is the issue - if either league fail for financial reasons it would be a long time before another opportunity would present itself

. i know how well this one is going to go, but how about a joint youth/womens league?
. with the likes of melissa barbieri playing in the vpl, is it really a stretch?
. this would overcome a few problems establishing separate leagues by halving the number of sides and subsequent expense and maintaining a high standard in terms of personnel
. the women are aguably more technical than the men which is also what should be a focus of a youth/development league so it seems an appropriate match
. once established it could evolve into two separate leagues
. whenever i had thought of either womens or youth league i also thought of them being played as part of an a-league match day as it would guarantee crowds from the begining which would subsequently increase interest - however if two leagues existing i like the idea of linking the womens and youth leagues but separating the mens as 3 games on the one card is too many
. accreditation i assume would also be an issue, but does it matter: non-sanctioned games of good quality must be better than no games at all
. and more mariners teams to support can only be a good thing

. yep, seems to be worse when the games are on, monday mornings, etc
. such as 5 mins to go wellington vs newcastle
. at least the (disappointing) result was soon available on this forum
. but yeah, sure is a nice plan to win supporters: games not available on free to air nor the internet
