You know the story: - We're 3rd last.
- Our strikers couldn't hit the side of a barn from inside it.
- Our fans are booing our own players, our players play like they're bored and people are calling for heads to roll.
But you're all forgetting a few other points: - We can now sign whoever the hell we want, without the FFA getting in the way.
- We can rejig and renew our squad so we've got a little more balance (and consequently a lot more venom).
- Lawrie can take the others aside and work on technical and tactical frailties, and set us up for a big year.
- Players now have a fair bit of time off to rest injuries and get themselves right.
The playing group as a whole will be read the riot act and they're all going to remember last night, through every preseason session when they run til they spew, through every weights session with veins popping behind their eyes, through every baking sunday afternoon a thousand miles away with a referee with no idea and a hostile home-team crowd. They'll remember last night like we will, and we won't see that ever again. The only way is up, friends and comrades. We are going to give our all as supporters next year because we know that everyone in the club is doing the same. We'll stand by them because they're going to stand by us. We're not going to take any joy from players who we won't see again, like I'm sure they won't take joy from leaving us. But we'll welcome any newcomers and make them part of the Mariners family. We're a small club. We're tight for cash. We need everything possible to go right for us, and this year it didn't. Next season is different. Next season will see the return of the yellow and blue to the top of Australian football. Remember winning the preseason cup final? Folks, we're going better than that. We're going all the way, and nobody can stop us. Remember the pain you felt standing on the terrace last Thursday night as our season dissolved away in front of us? Or the sting from the barbs of scummers celebrating either of their wins against us? That's *your* motivation. Rest up for a couple of months. Suck on a butter-menthol and soothe that tortured throat. And rest assured that on both sides of the fence we're going to do ourselves justice next season.

Dibo, do you work for the Mariners? Sounds just like a letter Lyall or Ivan would send to the members that's all! ;D

Post of the year. And last year too I think... Some may say otherwise to that Though our season's shooting crisis may be jusat what we need as well. Learn from our mistakes, and move on. TO THE WINNERS OF A-LEAGUE VERSION 3!!!

How about remembering them celebrate there draw against us, that gives me motivation.
If we soothe out throats in the off season they are just going to be bad again next year, we need our own off season training, at least one chant at full voice is needed every day from now until the trial games next season.

Join a church choir perhaps? Join the local Musical Society Theatre Group and take part in Gilbert and Sullivan Recitals? Join a Buddhist Monastery and have to chant numerous mantras each day? Join a death metal band as vocalist and get to really work out the vocal chords by thrashing out lyrics in that deep satan-like voice they use?

Personally I and my mates will be having random "mariner nights" where we go out to syd, or scum, or around the coast dressed up in the gear and singing our hearts out. Just for fun and to keep in "shape"

Great to see some positive thoughts on the forum, so soon after the end of our season.
What you said Dibo sounds fine....as long as McKinna DOES correctly identify the areas that need fixing and do the necessary house-cleaning. We're agreed that the strikeforce is the number one priority. There will always be disagreement about keeping/selling certain players, but we need at least one, new and fully fit forward to help solve the scoring problems. Also, we need to find a way to sign Jedinak. The guy is one of the most promising signings I've seen at the club, and if Spencer and/or one or 2 others really ARE leaving, it shouldn't be too hard to get him on board.
I've got every confidence in my countryman. He's not stupid, and I think he knows exactly what needs to be done to the team.
Now the only problem is finding something to keep me entertained for the next few months!

as per tiger's great article on www.marinators.net we were one prolific striker away from a top two finish Rds 1-7 No Mori, bottom two in rounds Rds 8-14 Mori, top two for rounds Rds 15-21 No Mori, bottom two for rounds Lawire has openly admitted that his failure for Version 2 is not to sign another one or two strikers. On the basis of this the current hysteria on this forum is both unfounded and illogical.

...the current hysteria on this forum is both unfounded and illogical. ...and the hysteria found its way into the "Pathetic..." article in today's Express Advocate for all to see. Newman stating his source for "fans" critical of or calling for sacking of certain players +/or coach as this forum. Be careful boys and girls

Newman stating his source for "fans" critical of or calling for sacking of certain players +/or coach as this forum. Be careful boys and girls i think it's fine that this site is used as a source. there may come a time in the future when fan discontent is a catalyst for an urgently needed improvement and some swift and less than subtle personnel decisions. now might even be one of those times. people shouldn't check themselves before posting honest opinions on here. people should absolutely check themselves before posting single-minded abuse, as has been directed towards certain members of our playing group. mick's comment pretty much sums up my view of some of the tripe served up here in the last few days. if a journo takes stuff from here, that's up to them, but it's up to members of this forum to use their grey matter and ensure that what can be taken is no more than reasonable debate and expression of honestly held views. while sometimes it can look bad, we're not the mariners' pr department so that's not actually our problem. in fact on the flip-side, it's free market research, they can see when the punters are happy and they can see when we're pissed off. que sera sera.

I read that article, of the oh-so-lovely name of 'Pathetic Mariners'... A Paul Newman has replaced Mr Dick Noone it seems for the mariners articles...

Got home tonight and read the article carefully.
To be fair to the Express, where were they wrong or inaccurate in their reporting? Did they get any facts wrong or make anything up?
It was pathetic on Sunday, Lawrie was embarrassed for the fans and if they wanted to do a real hatchet job, they could have really stuck it to us. Note that they didnt name any player(s) subject to hysterical abuse on here.
After the "riot police" beat up, I am no lover of the CCEA (happy to see them all hung drawn and quartered TBH) but I can live with an honest assessment.
There is a fine line between the lying we have seen from them before and a critical article that sticks to the broad facts without picking on individuals.
I'm with Dibo here, this is as good a sample of supporters opinion around (in the absence of anything better). It would be helpful if we refrained from personal abuse of our players (note I said our, other teams are fair game) but I am comfortable for the club to be made aware that their paying customers are pissed off.

Got home tonight and read the article carefully. To be fair to the Express, where were they wrong or inaccurate in their reporting? Did they get any facts wrong or make anything up? I am still on holidays at the The Entrance and saw the article today. It was an angle they were entitled to take, and I have no problem with taking a few quotes from the forum in that circumstance. It is just another reminder that this is a public forum and as well as the nearly 1200 members anyone out there can read what you post. Remember that when you want to vent your spleen, or personally abuse someone. By the way ... welcome to our newest Moderator .... dibo! It is a move to ensure that during work hours we have a chance of one of us being on line. Thank you and good luck dibo, and be kind to him people!

I wholeheartedly expect the forum url to be redirected to wikipedia. I also thought the article was fair. 'Pathetic' was more of a representation of what the supporters and coach thought, not the CCEA's opinion. Quoting the forum is a dangerous place to go, but was done in reasonable taste on this occasion. I still don't agree with it though. Picking out the worst and printing it is an easy way to falsely 'represent the fans' and destroy the credibility of the rest of us. It would be like asking people what they thought as they walked out of the stadium and using only what the drunkest dickhead said, but on the forum people are totally anonymous and unaccountable. Any individual can NOT be used to represent any more than one 10,000th of the supporter base, and that is when they aren't a troll.

Quoting from the forum is a real journalistic short cut and saves the journo from going out an meeting and interviewing flesh-and-blood people. It's like a student writing an assignment using Wikipedia! It may be ok for a one-off article, but how easy would it be for this journo to do the same again next time. (you see the same thing on tv when news organisations report what other news organisations are saying about certain stories rather than investigating the story themselves). I agree that this particular headline misleads the reader as to the content of the article, which wasn't as bad as it suggests.

"There is a trend in modern journalism to take the easy way out"
So true Voice of Reason.
They go with whatever they read.
We were there all the way apart from some bad finishing. It hurts to see teams we dominated in the finals, but we'll be back.
