Found this interesting excerpt from near the start of this month when trawling through articles on Foxsports. This was before the socceroos call up and such. Makes it all seem a bit predictable looking back Meanwhile McKinna has revealed how on-fire striker Nik Mrdja is still having to work constantly on the knee that has left his A-League career on hold for most of the past two seasons. While the Mariners squad toiled away in their first session of the new week yesterday Mrdja was cooling his heels in the pool. "We don't want to get to a stage where, because we're training him the same as everyone else, he needs a week or two off," McKinna said yesterday. "Monday is usually a hard day so we ease him through - he does a swimming session and then he's right for the rest of the week. "We'd rather just nurse him through so as the season goes on he gets stronger. It's usually just the first session of the week - his knee gets a wee bit tender. We have to monitor him so that we don't load him up too much." . so you mean the socceroos management are to blame for niki's injury ..... ie. it was being managed at home, but pushed too hard when in camp?

Mori looked a bit rusty but still looks very dangerous and single minded in front of goal. I reckon he will score next week. It looks like a good combo with sasho.
BTW...the Tomich.."Show us your tits chant was very funny"...should have led that into get your tits out for the lads ....or is that getting a bit creepy?

Mori has a great record at Hindmarsh - would not be at all surprised to see him on the scoresheet!
Was poor yesterday thou, bumped into Matty Simon before the game, seemed disappointed that he hasn't been given the opportunity.

IMO Mathew Simon has not got the experience to start in the A league at this time and score goals.
Obviously Lawrie has gone for the experienced old campaigner rather than the youthful exuberance of Simon.

I wouldnt be too cut up about it if i was Simon, the kids good and has potential, but he cant honestly think he is ready to take it upon himself to be the mariners leading striker if both mrdja and petrovski were injured, things like that can ruin reputations, it nearly killed kwasnik last year and he is a much better player than Simon.

There are other players in the squad with better credentials than Simon and they have had to deal with the same thing happening to them.
Thats why the A League needs to implement a youth league as a matter of urgency. Even though Simon is getting a bit old for youth league at 21.
The life of a professional footballer is tuff.

Was poor yesterday thou, bumped into Matty Simon before the game, seemed disappointed that he hasn't been given the opportunity. the fact he was there was taking attention away from petrovski and he was having a field day i was watching mori throughout the game and his angled runs are superb and almost always perfectly timed even if he doesn't get service at times he was dragging two players with him letting sasho play a deeper role and having a mountain of space

If you are an up and coming striker who wants to learn the craft from one of te best in Australia who would you want to learn from. Mat Simon can take his time watch the games focusing on the movements of Mori, re-watch them with the tapes and learn from them and put them into practice. In the same way we believe Nigel is lucky to have Viddy at practice where he can pick his brains and learn, Mat Simon should be taking the same opportunity to learn from Mori

That's if Mori and Saso are benevolent enough to explain some things to them.

Also how often does Damian Mori actually train with the Mariners between games?
I believe its a rarity.

That's if Mori and Saso are benevolent enough to explain some things to them. I dont know whether they are benevolent or not but with the technology available today any budding striker can watch the game and the replays and learn plenty without actually talking to the players concerned. Given the family football community that exists within the Mariners I would be very disappointed if the players involved were not benevolent enough to give a young up and comer a helping hand.
