To say the A league is outgrowing Tommy P is a bit harsh IMO... After all it is the mainers who is setting the pace for this year so far. If its outgrown Tommy, then it has left the likes of Zdrillic, Aloisi and a few others well behind.
Tommy P is class IMO, remeber his back heel goal... There is simply alot of options in his spot, and if it aint broke then dont fix it... I would like to se him prove his worth first chance he gets, and stay with the squad...Than opposed to say going to the glory and turning it on!

Tommy will bounce back and play a pivotal role and score the winner in the Final.

If its outgrown Tommy, then it has left the likes of Zdrillic, Aloisi and a few others well behind. I think you've answered your own question there, Uncle, citing those other players. Tommy has to keep training hard, show enthusiasm for the job, do all the things Lawrie wants of him , and sooner or later, his chances will come. Jedi hasn't got many players shadowing him, and if he cops a suspension or an injury, his spot will need replacing too. That will rejig the centre midfield roles and Tommy will come into contention then too (taking one of the attacking roles). I agree that it may come down to a reassessment of Tommy's contract at the end of the season and the possibility of a one year deal with not much cream on top.

Hard to drop Kwas in his current form but Tommy would be in my starting 11. He will get a chance at some stage this season.

It's pretty close to the mark. If this season keeps on the same way, it will be a shame, because with the way the Mariners have built up to this season we would be successful no matter what. So if it does go down as a year people would rather forget, and that takes away from whatever we achieve, it will be totally unfair.

Very good read.
I dont see the current physicality as a boring aspect of the game tbh.I would rather see a tough midfield tussle than route 1 shit.
I think the fact the competition is so close so far is adding to a little frustration amongst some supporters whos clubs this time last year were winning regularly, the past 2 seasons of teams collecting maybe the easy 3 points against the Knights is also gone.
Give it a few weeks and teams will start stringing winning runs together and the excitement thats been missing for other teams will be back.
Just as long as we keep on our merry way at the top.

To de-list Tommy at the end of this season would be a massive shame and a huge loss for our squad - just watching him do his thing at halftime makes you go "shit, look at them skills, surely there's a place for that on the park", but like many have said, you don't go changing a winning team. Having said that, I think that the inclusion of Tommy would add even more to what is a powerful midfield - the $64 question is 'who to drop'?? Maybe even go with a back three?? I'd love to believe the theory about "saving him for the run home" though - and I'd love to believe even more the "use him as a Cahill-at-the-Asian-Cup" type player. Whatever really, I just wanna see him on the field.

we are going close to a back three now kwassy roams a fair bit (left and right) and heff gets forward alot We're back to our season one style. Rather than drop a midfielder off to cover Heff, our defence slides to make a back three. That also works better with us being able to load the left side in attack – Browny can pull in while Heff breezes by, creating problems for the opposing midfield having to switch players quickly or simply zone up and hope for the best. The other thing is that with Heff’s pace, he can get up looking for the switch - look at a number of the goals from season 1 where he simply took off while the ball was on the other side of the park looking to create an option and got on the end of a long cross. If he’s caught upfield, and we need to defend in numbers, Browny can drop in easily. Otherwise as Brett alluded, our personnel lend themselves to playing a back three anyway and Heff can be one man further up the park for the time being. The time when this is less likely to work is when Heff’s on the field and then we lean a little more to the left, cutting down the space for Browny to drop into and closing the channel for Heff.
