Just heard from a very reliable source that the mariners are chasing an English player called John Wilkinson. He is currently playing in Singapore, and has played for the national team several times (married to a local). His best mate works with me, and called him the other day telling him that the mariners were after his signature, and wanted to know how life was in Gosford! His preferred position is in the midfield, but they want him to play up front. Not sure if anything is going to happen with this as there are probably better options out there but hey. Here is a link to some of his goals for Singapore, and his wiki page. uk.youtube.com/watch?v=H92eZgmomiQuk.youtube.com/watch?v=_dUNcWBdkAAen.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Wilkinson_(Footballer)

John Wilkinson is a professional soccer player who plays for the Singapore Armed Forces Football Club (SAFFC) and the Singapore national football team. Previously, he played for Exeter City FC. He was born a British citizen, but after marrying a Singaporean, Wilkinson opted for Singaporean citizenship, thus allowing him to play international football for Singapore. He was part of the national team of 32 called up for a series for friendly matches against North Korea, Saudi Arabia and Australia. He got his debut after coming on in the second half against North Korea and even got an assist. He got his first international goal when he broke the deadlock in the 1-1 draw against Gulf Cup champions, UAE. He also scored in the 4-0 romp over Palestine in a World Cup 2010 qualifying match on the 8th of October 2007.

I don't know if I could warm to anyone with the name John Wilkinson.
Also, let's hope his nickname is not Wilko as we already have one.

Hmm. I wouldn't care if we signed someone called Joel Griffiths (except obviously the one we all hate), provided they have the ability. I don't think that this John Wilkinson would be up to it, at least as a striker, but if were talking about signing someone from Singapore Armed Forces FC the Aleksandar Duric does sound the goods, 36 goals in 29 games, that says potential to me! And he's an Aussie!

And he's an Aussie! alex duric has been playing in that competition for eons and gets around 40/50 goals a season the competition is very weak and i am not sure that even someone like duric would cut it in the a-league on top of that he earns arounds half a million a season (plus any kickbacks ) and no club here could even compete with those dollars

sounds like absolute bullshit sorry, a medicore striker that plays for a domestic team in a country who's national team we smashed 3-0 ...i think it was singapore we beat at Pluim early pre-season, and i know the armed forces team probably plays internationally in some other league but still, way too unknown for a Mariners contract, especially since we have been so vigilant to signing local talent, if we were to go overseas, u can bet it will be a decent name JOHN ALOISI GOD DAMMIT!!!
