HOW WE GOT ALOISI article in FourFourTwo by Aidan Ormond
EXCLUSIVE: Mariners signing John Aloisi is set to be a shock inclusion for his new club against Branko Culina's side this weekend after rejecting last minute overtures from Sydney. The deal to sign Aloisi for Central Coast was agreed at 10am on Saturday after a late bid from Sydney FC was rejected by the player's representatives, according to Gorman.
“Sydney was negotiating right up until the end. But his mind had been made up prior to that,” says Gorman.
“He's told me he wants to get off the plane this Tuesday morning and go straight to our 10am training session. And we'd hope that he'd be able to make himself available for selection for the Sydney game this weekend.”
The Socceroo striker comes in as a replacement for utility Matthew Osman who's been ruled out for the season with a cruciate ligament injury. As such, the former Osasuna and Coventry City striker's salary falls outside the salary cap.
Aloisi is set to be unveiled later that day at Bluetongue Stadium. The Mariners had spent most of last week working on bringing the player to Gosford once the injury to Osman was revealed.
“It's a very clear statement from the Mariners. We've said all along that we want to be the best football club in Australia,” says Gorman.
“We're not going to sit back and watch other clubs with larger populations pass us. It's a statement about our belief and our vision for the game."
So what lured Aloisi to the Central Coast? “Respect,” adds Gorman. “I think there was a great respect from John and his management about the way we went about the negotiations.
“He was incredibly impressed with the respect we showed him and the fact that we are a well regarded club. He's gotten excellent feedback about the club from people within the game such as his brother Ross and Tony Vidmar.
“At the end of the day he saw a club that was stable, committed, settled and one that really showed we wanted him to be a part of our football family.
"I think he liked our family values and the way we play football as well as our coaching staff and ambition.”
Gorman refused to talk in dollar terms about the cost of bringing this Aussie hero to Bluetongue.
Aloisi is not match fit right now having last played a competitive game in late July against Japan in the Asian Cup in Hanoi, where he scored.
However, the player has told Gorman he is highly fit “on an individual basis".
Gorman said: "He sets very high personal standards in that regard.”
Paddy Dominguez of Aloisi's management group, Inspire Sports Management added: “There have been a large number of clubs making offers to John over the past five months, and we are very grateful and flattered by all their interest.
"John has been waiting for a deal that he felt completely comfortable with before committing himself and has been in no rush to sign something for the sake of signing.”
Aloisi will be available for all Mariners games – including if they reach a grand final.
And the club is hopeful of retaining Aloisi for a longer term deal once the season is over.
“In terms of perception in the market place,” added a clearly delighted Gorman, “this shows we are a club on the move.
"And it's not just a boost for the Mariners, it's a boost for the A-League.”

thedoc the bad smell you refer to are the bodies of former Sydney FC management and coaches. But the bigger smell is their board.
The good smell is the Mariners management.

Kwas isn't going to be sacked, what're you on about John Aloisi is a Soccerroo who has scored... what, 27 goals for them or something? Correct me if I'm wrong - off the top of my head. Anyway, he also has played in Spain and is quite a god striker. His brother Ross Aloisi plays for Wellington, although he is not as good - hence the chant 'You've got the WRONG Aloisi!'

Hmm, i wonder when Fox sports is gonna put John Aloisi up for sale in the fantasy A-league team and at what price he would be worth, surely he is atleast as much as the most expensive striker currently, Archie at 11.5
Interesting, will keep an eye out and post as soon as i find out

Hohoho. Do I smell jealousy?
Most of our games have been on a Sunday Afternoon - hardly the best time for top crowds. Secondly, considering we have by far the lowest audience to draw from, stuck between Sydney and you, it's a great crowd. We have by far the best Crowd per Capita record, far exceeding Melbourne whom have the 2nd best, whom have a much larger base far away from other teams to draw people from, not to mention a far bigger stadium.
As for Aloisi unable to 'save' this team - may I remind you who's winning the A-league at the moment. I could easily say the same regard Jardel and you, and it'll make sense. Where's you off-field management at the moment? Not to mention EnergyAustralia - who's name is on YOUR stadium - are sponsering US.
Troll. Who can't spell by the way.

Aloisi eyes off 2010 date www.theworldgame.com.au/home/index.php?pid=st&cid=98107Socceroos talisman John Aloisi has revealed how he believes signing for Central Coast Mariners will help him extend his international career. Speaking to TWG after becoming the most high profile Australian to be temped by the fledgling attractions of the A-League, Aloisi, 31, expressed his desire to tame father time and help Australia qualify for South Africa 2010. On the way, he plans to help the Mariners win their maiden A-League crown and then join them for an unlikely assault on the Asian Champions League. Aloisi, who left his home in Spain Sunday, could be available for Sunday’s clash with Sydney FC at the Sydney Football Stadium. “I have plenty of ambition left and if Dick Advocaat (Australia’s coach elect) wants me, then I’ll certainly be available,” he declared. “There are some excellent younger strikers coming through but I think there’s also the need for experience, and that’s what I can bring to the table.” “The hunger is still there – I love playing for Australia and I believe I still have a lot to give.’’ Aloisi’s bare-chested run down the touchline after scoring THAT penalty against Uruguay that took Australia to the 2006 World Cup - after a shootout – will live forever in Australian sporting lore. Ironically, Aloisi’s last competitive match three months ago was for his country in the quarter finals of the Asian Cup where he scored Australia’s sole goal against Japan before they bowed out on penalties. He’s kept himself in trim by training with Alaves, the Spanish second division outfit he parted company with five months ago and says he’s ‘raring to go’ for his new team. While he won’t be available for Australia in next month’s friendly with Nigeria at London’s Loftus Road, Aloisi – who has scored 27 goals in 54 appearances for his country – will re-emerge in time for Australia’s first qualifier on the road to the Rainbow nation on February 6 against opposition yet to be determined. He has agreed a deal with the Mariners until the end of the season and is anticipating causing mayhem in tandem with resident goal-getter Saso Petrovski. But why join the Mariners when he could have gone to Adelaide United, Queensland Roar, Sydney FC or Wellington Phoenix? Not to mention re-signing with Alaves or taking up a last minute offer from Serbian league leaders Partizan Belgrade. “I’ve been keen to come home for a while now, principally with my family in mind,’’ he explained. “I have three young children and while I could have earned more perhaps by staying in Europe or going to the Middle East, this move just felt right.” “The Mariners have a huge amount of ambition, they are top of the league and are clearly going places. If I can do my bit to help them then I’ll be happy.” “Frank Lowy (the FFA’s kingpin) has often said how he wanted former and current Socceroos to come home and show what they can do in the A-League, well here I am.” “I want to help the league take another step. If I can do that I’ll be more than happy.” Adelaide-raised Aloisi played for seven clubs during his 15-year European odyssey but he’s been left with a sour taste after being forced in to legal action against Alaves’ former president to recover unpaid wages. “I could have stayed in Spain but I was a little fearful of a repeat situation,” he added. “For now I just want to get out there and score goals for the Mariners.” “I played 15 minutes for Adelaide City as a 15-year-old in the old national league and that’s the extent of my experience of Australian domestic football.” “It’s going to be interesting, especially playing against my brother Ross (Wellington Phoenix captain). There won’t be much brotherly love when we meet.” While he’s open to extending his stay with the Mariners beyond his initial deal, Aloisi also has one eye on the riches on offer in the J-League. “Yes, that’s a possibility next year. Let’s see what happens with the Mariners first though
