This slightly irrelevant, but did anyone see the Sun Herald article yesterday about Sydney's recruitment for next season.
They are apparently drawing up a shortlist of Mariners and Adelaide players.

My guess is more after coaching staff. I think S Flying Circus is after rebuilding club from ground up, players, coaches, they will let go some players and so will we. Will be an interesting off season.

watched some highlights (search youtube for jayfcak47 - can't be arsed posting the links): ...anyone know why sash didn't dive in for that ball across goal? he could have slid in with either foot, he was past the keeper so he could have plunged it into the net and we would have had the most ridiculously manic finish to a match with both sides hammering each other. also - popovic's goal, vukovic was being obstructed. the man was onside, but he was basically standing right in front of vuko blocking both his sight and movement. that's obstruction boys and girls. didn't see it live because it was 100+ metres away through a crowd of players but is pretty obvious from the camera's view. aloisi did alright, not great, but he's only just off the plane so we'll let him get used to the place. the middle of defence seemed... slow. not bad, and when in position to hold a player up or make a tackle they did well, but play coming at them at pace exposed us pretty badly. gumper was ok, but not really quick enough these days to be a dedicated wide man i think. late on i'm not sure why when simon came on for gumprecht we didn't play a 3-4-3 (if that's exactly what we did, you'll all have to forgive my not seeing it for the heat, frustration and booze all teaming up on me...). we were beaten on the day, a result made more frustrating for the fact that we're now seriously out of form and adelaide have gone from 7th (when they played us) to top (albeit by goal difference...) in a matter of just 4 matches. on to next week, where with some luck we can knock melbourne down another peg and with some more luck sydney continue their revival by doing over the scum and queensland do us a favour in south australia to give us the top rung to ourselves. it's a long season and this could yet be a shit sandwich or smoked salmon, only time will tell.

What was everyones take on how we perfomed as travelling supporters? It felt like everyone was fired up and really having a go but it didnt look like we had many people and didn't sound real loud :-/I dont know if this was because we were behind the whole time or lack of instruments maybe we did sound good i don't know. P.sWe have a new Mariners fan Bex loved the experiance (pre game during and post)thanks everyone who made her feel welcome That was her first ever game never even followed a team in any real sports now she's on the wagon. i thought we did ok - there are some views on the SFC forum of us from their end - i think it's fair to say that's plenty bigger than newcastle were a few weeks ago.

Here's the youtube link to the goals www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVv3SpyuJGkDibo - yeah, I agree, Danny was charged unfairly. Fyfe (was it fyfe?) only wanted to take him out of the game, and he succeeded. Although Shieldsy isn't the kind of referee who would call that sort of thing.....Danny did get pushed around a bit too easy for my liking though. Still doesn't explain why we didn't have somebody on the far post, which would've solved all our problems. Oh well, roll on next week.

Lawrie mentioned in the paper today something about that. Didnt name names, but said we should be putting a foot out for those, and bang, its 3-3. I would not want to have been in the shed with those angry scots after the game, thats for darn sure

The last 10 minutes or so, Matty Simon must have been wondering if he was dreaming or something. He was put in the centre forward position, and had Saso to the left and Aloisi to the right! Danny owes Tommy a crateload of booze come Mad Monday at seasons' end, for that last man desperation run of about 50-60 metres to chase down the lobbed ball heading for the goals. In fact, Danny should have done the right thing and carried the little fella off the ground after he had expended himself and couldn't get up off the turf.

I hope Lawrie ripped them a new one at HT and again after the game. We were 2nd to every ball for most of the game and if it had ended up at 4-1 we could have had few complaints. Having Aloisi seemed to unbalance the side up front but that will get better with time.
Passing was woeful and we just watched the game pass us by for large parts.
We made Bridges look ok - he really is a shit footballer who looked to be asking to come off and was pointing at his knee for about 5 mins and waving at the bench. Sure he did Viddie for pace but there are old people at Henry Kendall who can do that. Everytime he came up against Boogs he got done easily.
Owens is going to be a major asset for us and with Wilko back, he can move into midfield and that will really help us.
Thankfully, we saw SFC play at 110% and us at about 60%. They will revert back to being a poorly assembled collection of misfits as the adrenalin of a new coach wears off. We will get players back on deck and improve.
I felt we looked completely disjointed and very flat - all teams at any level have days like that and it just happens sometimes.
On to next week

Will be an interesting off season. I'm pretty sure the article mentioned players. the Terror listed names today: Jedinak, Gumprecht and Aloisi the list also included Burns, Bridge, Musialik and Ahmed Elrich. Basically it's a list of players coming off contract at the end of the year. The article highlights the fact that Sydney have no interest in developing their own talent and are only interested in going from year to year trying to buy the championship. It's sad really.

Aloisi better for the runTuesday, 30 October 2007
by Paul Newman, Sportal
John Aloisi John Aloisi has pulled up fine from his first Hyundai A-League match and he is eager for more as the Mariners prepare to take on Melbourne Victory at Gosford on Sunday.
Less than a week after arriving in Australia, the Socceroos striker played the full 90 minutes against Sydney FC in his side's 3-2 loss at the Sydney Football Stadium.
It was his first match in Australia since 15 minutes in the old NSL as a 15-year-old for Adelaide City.
Few opportunities came his way against Sydney but the important thing for both coach Lawrie McKinna and Aloisi is that he survived the full match, his first in three months.
"Of course it was tough going because it was my first game for so long,'' Aloisi said at the team recovery session on Monday.
"It didn't feel too bad. The legs were a bit heavy especially towards the end but it was good to get 90 minutes under the belt so I feel better for next game.''
McKinna said he offered to rest Aloisi for the last 15 minutes but the seasoned campaigner was happy to see out the game.
McKinna said overall he was happy with Aloisi's debut but conceded the service to his new striker was poor.
"In the first half we were getting it to his feet but at times we were not giving him enough support,'' McKinna said.
"Overall I'm happy with John and he'll be a lot better for getting 90 minutes under his belt.''
As well as improving his match fitness Aloisi is looking forward to more game time to increase the understanding between him and his Mariners team-mates.
"It doesn't matter which new club you go to, the top players around the world take a while to gel in with the best players around the world,'' Aloisi said.
"It was the first time I played with the boys after only training a couple of days with them. Game by game our understanding will get better.''
Aloisi, who has played 15 years in Europe including the top leagues in England, Italy and Spain, said the Hyundai A-League was a different style of football to what he was used to in Europe.
"It's a good standard but it's a different style,'' Aloisi said.
"Every league is different and it takes a while to adapt. I know each game will get better and hopefully next game we can come away with a win against Melbourne.''

i thought we did ok - there are some views on the SFC forum of us from their end - Easily the best tifo by an away team at SFS this season (if not in the 3 seasons of the A-League). Not sure that photo quite does it justice. Congrats.
