You can expect it to jump right up for our next home game against Sydney. I'm sure they'll have a decent sized mob turn up.

Like everyone else, I'm over the moon to see an increase in our crowds this season, but I'm disappointed with the actual numbers.
We haven't seen a dramatic increase on last season and let's be honest, we we're crap last year. This season we've been on top since the very first game of the season, and for the most part, playing very attractive football and were still around the 10,000 mark.
Now we have one of the most well known Australian sportsman and current Socceroo striker, world cup goal scorer etc etc and we haven't had a big jump in attendances. We should be averaging 12-13,000 and pulling the odd 15-17,000 but we are no where near it. I spoke to a very, very senior person in the organisation on Saturday night and he is disappointed with out crowds and doesn't know what else they need to do to pull them in.
It's time the CC public really got behind this team in big numbers. The club is doing everything right, so where are they? Can we realistically hope to sell out the ground often during the regular season when we are top of the pops and averaging 10,000 this year?
I'm not trying to be doom and gloom, far from it. I'm just fustrated with the general public. What more can the club do to get them through the turnstiles?

Its really not a matter of how well the team is doing or who we sign as icons, the central coast just hasnt killed off its generation of rugby league yet, you have to remember that a vast majority of people from the central coast descend from people who grew up in Sydney and have rugby league ties and knob-head mentalities, this is rapidly dying in the youth of the central coast and will soon disappear all together with the Mariners in town. I think its a good reflection of the Central Coast personally, it shows we arent just a bunch of bandwagoning fools like Melbourne last year, i mean last year, same fixture, same time they got 20 THOUSAND more people simply because their team was coming first, i dont think thats a reflection of genuine respect to your team, its just USING your team as a way to express arrogant dominance to other cities and or clubs.
The central coast fans are genuine and the wins we have won over so far will not be easily turned away, the Mariners are too good with the community, so trust me, our crowds wont go down no matter how bad we do, however because of that exact reason, they wont magically go up because we are winning, we just need time to ingrain ourselves in the community further and become the dominant sport, the media isnt going to do it for us, the club is doing all the right things to make it happen anyway, just need to keep it up and before you know it we will be getting 15k averages!

Mariners on the Coast is not a curiousity event anymore, its a regular occurence, you know where to find them, all your mates are going, its here to stay. its at this stage that one would expect numbers to dwindle as some cinics would be over the spectacle and move onto something else such as the Rays, to soak out the fresh experience then move on again. but the crowd numbers are persisting and people are coming back, and even more people are showing up for the first time as they have realised the Mariners are here to stay! In saying this, our average is growing gradually and is not waning with say last seasons results or the heavy allocation of Sunday fixtures. I have no problem with averaging 10k right now. im sure the brainstrust at FFA would be stoked as they wouldve been happy with an 8k average in the first few years.

I think we'd all like to see more people at the games, particularly with the team being top of the league, but an average of over 10,000 is not bad to be going on with. I'm pretty confident that number will continue to grow over time, as people grow up with the idea of having a football team in the community.
One of the most positive aspects for me has been the variety in terms of spectator demographics - young & old, families etc....the more that can be encouraged, the more sustainable these crowds can be.

I have to admit I have been a bit frustrated from time to time too - yes our crowd is growing this season but not proportionally to our results.
But a big point is that none of the frustration is aimed at the club. They've certainly done a fantastic job. The frustration is at the Central Coasties who haven't realised/accepted what we have created.
But I guess with all the school visits, etc etc etc, the type of support we are creating is more heartfelt and ingrained. Hopefully, if results stop going our way next season, we can still grow it a little bit more. That is the key.
Thinking about Melbourne's instant 50k crowds last year and now the dropoff though, is that such a bad thing? They are now playing shit and getting 30k - much bigger than the season before last. And the financial windfall from the bandwagon support would have allowed them to invest money back into keeping more fans as long term prospects. I believe that dedicated support is most important but capitalising on the good times when they come is also crucial.

Shipwreck, Perm, Mustapha_beer and Brett, all very good points well made by you guys.
As Brett said, I want to make it very clear, in no way shape of form, am I being critical of the club. Lyall, the office and the team have connected with the community magnificently. It is plainly obvious we are the best run club in the country.
It makes me so proud that such a small population base can have such outstanding success on and off the field. And I must say, every time I travel to away games in Sydney and Scum town, I don't mind admitting I get a little misty eyed at the passionate support displayed by all yellow people.
I guess I'm just a little impatient and want to see bigger crowds than what we're getting.
Shipwreck makes a very good point about the demographics of the Coast. It is very much an anglo, working class community with a lot originally from blue collar areas of Sydney which is Rugby League territory. I guess it's just going to take more time to get them to our ground and convert them to our beautiful game.
I have no doubt we'll get there and as Johnny Warren said, we'll all be able to tell all our knockers and disbelievers "I told you so".

I think the other thing to consider is whilst clubs like Melbourne have a huge following in terms of Members, the additional support they get to games is not to dis similar to ourselves. Look at last weekend. They had 30k in total but they have about 23k members. We have about 3.5k members and had 11.5k in total (so we had 8k additional, they had 7k)
Also look at the percentages - 1% of Central Coast population = Members an 11k average is almost 4% of poplulation what other club can boast this?
I admit - I get as anggry/dismayed/sh1tty etc etc as the next fan when I see what we could have turn up. I mean I travel 40 mins to a game and there are 8 of us that do - but I have friends and family that live 10 mins away that won't.... ARGGHHHHH....

To be fair I would have been happy with this after 7000 Sunday games, which has traditionally been our worst day for crowds. I'd like to think we'll sell out NYE this year.

I think the key for the mariners is to bridge the cap between players, and supporters. They are doing this. Every year more kids will start going to the game. Becoming long time fans. It is harder to bring back people who have already left it. I find it amazing how many people in this country will watch the english premier league, but never go to an a-league game. But the A-league has, and continues to make inroads there too.

Main problems have been the time of the games. Sunday games are the least popular and 5pm on a Sat is not much better. I missed my first home game in 2 seasons against Adel due to times clashing with one of my kids bithday party. 6 or 7pm and we would have been there. I know heaps of people that go to the Mariners quite regularly but there has not been ONE game this when all have gone at the same time...this leads me to believe that we have 15K crowds just waiting to happen one we play on a friday or sat night against a decent side..i.e Sydney.

Sydney at 7pm on Saturday will attract 12-15k, especially if both teams are still on winning streaks
