Another good win by United. Let's hope their pre-season form transfers into a good proper season for them. They have some excellent players and there should be some great games at the Stadium. By the way www.back-of-the-net.com will be covering State league games including all United homes games.

Ian Ferguson playing sweeper eh?
Well he will certainly get to take a good look at the players.
Have Central Coast United often played out of the stadium (talking of upcming state League games), or is this one of it's first games, a test run, outside of Pluim Park or Mingara?

They played out of the stadium a couple of years ago but it cost them too much.
With the interest in the state league comp they should get bigger crowds and more dollars through the coffers.
Their first game, however, will be played in Newcastle due to the stadium surface being affected by the motorcross.
We could use United as a trial run for the Mariners.
There will likely be a cross over of players.

hmm Michael Lloyd Green any relation to a Mariner's director? Yes. That is the Lloyd Green who was listed as a director of the bid is his father. He was part of the bid team due to PR/Marketing background. I understand he is not a director of the club now (yes they need to update their web site!) Michael is a great lad, who I have been tracking since he was with Bathurst 75 training with my son Owen. Michael played in Bathurst 75 1st grade side at 16 and was top scorer for them in NSW Ist Division in 2003. He moved to Northern Spirit's NYL side last season, and then Gladesville Spirit's U18 side in the Premier Youth League. At 18 he is a good prospect. He was training by himself when Lawrie McKinna spoke with him, and shortly after he was invited to come into the CCUFC squad.

Is Hakan Canli the 18 or 19 yr old kid who played for Broadmeadow this season??
He played most of the year in Broadmeadow's U19s team, but I always thought he was better than that.

David Brewer I was pondering the list player list and I looked back to BOTN reports last year. What I found was that at least five players in the 1st squad were in Newcastle United's National Youth League Finalist side last NSL season: Mitchell Wallace, Nigel Boogaard, Josh Mitchell, Joel Thiessen, and ? I think Mitchell Prentice. Whatever you think about using only local players, this mini-'spine' provides cohesion and it shows. Some of the others have played NSL with Spirit or Newcastle Breakers/United together. This is needed if we are to stay in the NSWPL this season and next when there will be a big culling going on. Bring in the younger locals and others from the Mariners catchment once security is attained, for future seasons of CCU and CCM.

Newcastle will really suffer from not having a team in the State League. Central Coast United can get the best of the young Novacastrians and nuture them into national league players for the Mariners.
