"Under a historic agreement between Central Coast United, the Central Coast Soccer Association and Central Coast Mariners FC, Central Coast United and its NSW Premier League team will be saved from the brink of oblivion and financial collapse.
In a press conference at Central Coast Express Advocate Stadium conducted this morning effective as of today the Central Coast Soccer Association will take over the operations and financial responsibilities of the club that includes a number of junior and women's representative teams.
The Central Coast Mariners will also jump aboard providing coaching and management expertise to the association.
General Manager of the Central Coast Soccer Association Michael Keech has indicated that initially their role would be a "caretaker" one to the club. They will look at the business model and act upon the changes necessary. They will not only look at the income generation potential of the business but also at the cost structures and how they can save money through integration.
Keech was adamant and committed that there will be no increase in membership fees to the association, currently a bone of contention from many local soccer clubs on the Coast.
The Central Coast United team will maintain its own identity but will increasingly strengthen ties with the Mariners in an attempt to share resources and value-add their soccer delivery.
There has even been initial talk of United playing curtain-raiser matches with the Mariners.
Central Coast Mariners General Manager Lyall Gorman was committed to the partnership and stated these types of relationships are vital.
He stated that their link to the community could be lost if they didn't take these opportunities and it would have a detrimental effect on their support. Further Mr Gorman stated that their link with the CCUFC and CCSA is vital in their attempt to integrate and embrace the Central Coast football community.
It was a solid base to start activities and programs.
His desire was that the new model would be sustainable and viable and this is the best opportunity of success the entity could have.
