SOCCER NO MORE……
The Central Coast Soccer Association’s Executive and Club Delegates voted unanimously at the Annual General Meeting on November 29th, 2005 to change the association’s name to Central Coast Football, thus ending a 43year era as the coast’s “soccer” organization.
Shannon Warren, daughter of the legendary Johnny Warren, referred to the change as “Fantastic! There are only 2 countries that I know still call football soccer and it should be called football, especially with us in the World Cup next year. It is The World Game.”
Chairman Geoff Johnson stated during the meeting “We are the largest and fastest growing sporting organization on the coast and with the Socceroos recent qualification into the 2006 World Cup, this trend is destined to continue! We need to ensure we are referring to our sport by its correct name”. The change of logo and organizational colours were also unanimous.
Also voted on at the November 29th AGM was the Board of Directors. Geoff Johnson returns as the Chairman and returning directors were John Harper as the Director of Finance, Ross Ankrett as Director of Competitions, John Nettheim as Director of Judiciary and Gordon Moore as Director of Registrations. New Directors voted in included Tony Gerasimou as Director of Coaching, Greg “Swampy” Marsh as Director of Sponsorship and Marketing, Wayne Connor as the Director of Qualifications, and Stephen Peachey as the Director of Properties.
A major change that will take place in 2006, demonstrating the growth of women’s football on the coast will be the addition of a position within the Directors for a Women’s Development position. This position will be filled at an Extraordinary General Meeting on January 24th, 2006.
