It is not just Umina, it is also Kincumber as well. Kincumber is one of the biggest clubs on the coast and if you get a home game at frost you can thank yourself lucky.... I would consider playing there lucky! I heard rumours of pluim getting a $600,000 upgrade.....gonna happen?

Perhaps part of the answer for the limited number of grounds is changing the goal posts on existing league fields to those combination football/RL posts. Similar to what you see in many school grounds.
It would probably allow for greater usage of rl ovals for use in football while still catering for rugby league. I am sure the RL purists would be wrapped in this idea!! At the end of the day though, nobody can claim ownership of council grounds. They are there to satisfy the needs of the community. The community needs more grounds to play football on!

we played at wadalba with mixed posts, but it doesnt solve the problem, the field would be fought for during the week for training even if the two clubs played different days of the weekend. not to mention how poor quality the field would end up in.

Its all well and good but the Coast is going to run short of grounds to play on, they are already stretched playing on sub standard fields....All you guys should get onto the council.....start a petition for imore and improved grounds...You have the numbers to make the councils sit up and take notice.
It is great to see the big rise in numbers. The rise in All Age is due to A-League, World Cup Qualification etc. Even I am making a comeback...by being inspired by the happenings of the last 12 months. I think the junior increase is due to the population rising and number of young families on the coast.
Even Kingaroy and the South Burnett's numbers have risen about 20%, which is quite something in a rural area. So it all looks good for the game we love.
Get in and lobby the Councils!!!!

Jumping Jimmy Blue Eyes
Don't worry about missing sitters one on one with just the Goaly to beat- happens to Beckham all the time, especially from penalties. I think the pitch had something to do with it too!

Haven't thought it through too deeply, but I was discussing the issue of ground availability etc the other day with a mate who I used to play with but now a days he just plays squash. He appreciates how his sport doesn't eat in to his weekend. For many AA players with families, the weekend becomes a logistical nightmare. It occurred to me that with the increasing numbers - phenomenal this year at OUFC where we're looking at 4 mens AA squads in 2006 compared to 2 in 2005 - why don't we follow what they've done with U/18's and play some AA divisions and maybe even junior football mid week at venues with decent lighting. If such venues eg Pluim are already full with rep training, well surely it's cheaper for council to fit some poles and lights to existing fields than to create many many more playing fields. There may even be referees who might find the idea of doing more matches per week and hence more $$ appealing. Anyway, it seems too simple an idea so feel welcome to pick holes in this logic.

excellent thought, but would certainly put pressure on ovals
only option to play midweek would be either friday nights or on the weekend on a sunday night
other nights would not be possible as ovals are more than chockers with teams training
a couple of grades on a saturday afternoon might work as many ovals are underused at that time
this would give sunday frees for family oriented people as the kids also play saturday

Hmm...Saturday arvos are still often in heavy use.....and with more teams I daresay that'll increase....I know at Umina both fields are often in use until 3:30-4:30pm....but obviously you've seen some fields that aren't really in much use late in the arvo. Actually, i think Woy Woy usually only have 1 field running....and how many senior fields are at East Gosford and Killarney? Are they in constant use?
If there's too much of a field shortage I would think that night games - more field for Friday night, and introducing Saturday nightt games - would be the only option.
Midweek would be good - but as mentioned before, too much strain on already-suffering ovals. Not only for space, but extra wear and tear too...Also, that would disrupt teams with training that night...or what about teams training tue and thur and playing wed night?
Another option would be to use the schools.....I think this is going to be our biggest option within the next few years. We use them for preseason as it is.
downside to that? Weak facilities. Often no changerooms, or they're halfway up the school somewhere. Referees in particular won't like that. Also there's a lack of a canteen...you can set up a marquee, but that takes a few more people to look after than the usual canteen at a ground. Then there's the simple fact of more organisation from the clubs in splitting manpower, and even equipment...so it'll put more strain on the clubs in that sense....But I can't see a better option.
Even sat night games, I think is a good option - but the grounds with lights won't want the increased strain on their ovals I would think. And that can only take us so far anyway.
Actually, wear and tear on the grounds will be more of an issue...more players means more teams training. Last season some feilds were very close to being closed down because they were rock hard with little grass....although, the drought is easing this year, so that should help compensate.
I wonder if it'd be possible for some fields to rearrange their layout to fit an extra field in somewhere.....At Umina the 2nd senior field runs across the non-comp fields. Non comp in the morn, switches to senior in the arvo. I reckon a few more grounds could probably have something like that, even if they have to move their non comp fields around a bit. Surely Kincumber could fit a senior field across the back there?
I like the idea of combining the footy grounds, but I don't think footy will go for it. somehow!
