Another unhappy loss last night. Freezing cold conditions down in Penrith, wasn't fun The lads were a goal behind and seemed to already drop their heads even though there was plenty of time left in the second half, and conceded a shocker with Trotty and Preston almost running into each other outside the box but neither of them played the ball and their striker nicked it away and hit it into the empty net! penrith was pretty dirty and their keeper tried to get matt simon sent off by twice taking elaborate dives after grabbing when the ball when matt was near him, the second time the ref booked the keeper for diving and awarded an indirect in the box. matt scored a bit later with a penalty to take it to 2-1, the final score. froggy yelled out audibly when he went down late in the match holding his knee and was helped off, i hope it's not too serious.

Girls did a fantastic job down at Marconi!!!! Won 2 games (14 and 21's) drew 2 (12's and firsts) and lost one (16's). First grade and U/21's played some fantastic football. Hold your heads up high girls. Let's show those people in Sydney that Lightning is a force to reckon with this season.

2-0 v Blacktown I hear, well done Lighning - Marconi or Parra in the next round is it? Bad news for froggy, looks like the old knee injury has flared up again! How is the knee champ? Just because you keep getting done for pace is no reason to keep blaming injuries

A report from a friend of mine, Peter Rowney, who is the Saints media officer!
St George Saints 2 (Freddy Umlil 42', Jane Talcevski 83') defeated Central Coast Lightning 1 (Jason McMinimee 45m) St George Stadium, Rockdale, 21/5/06
Despite a dominating second half performance, St George left it until seven minutes from time before a late winner from Jane Talcevski secured the three points against Central Coast on Sunday.
The 83rd minute equaliser came after a lengthy period of St George pressure though not before a few missed chances. Firstly, Raphael Bove was set up wonderfully by Talcevski but could not quite find the target while James Kovas and Orhan Dincer couldn’t make their excellent chances count.
Central Coast, by comparison, did not threaten during the second period with Saints keeper Trinity Allen, starting in place of the injured Richard Patrizi, rarely called upon.
St George had taken the lead just three minutes before half time when Dincer, with an overhead kick, flicked on to Kovas, who himself headed on to the waiting Fred Umlil. Umlil stooped low to head into the bottom corner beating Matthew Trott all ends up. But Central Coast responded only moments before half time when Jason McMinimee, unmarked, had time to choose his spot to take the sides in level at the break.
Bove, again, worked hard in midfield as he prompted the Saints throughout while, at the back, Paul Bilokapic was always in control. Lindsay Henderson was one of the Coast’s best, shackling Kovas on many occasions.
The one sour note for St George was an injury to Christian Cevenini, who had only just returned to the side. Cevenini was carried off after only eight minutes with knee ligament damage.
St George 2 (Umlil 42’, Talcevski 83’) v Central Coast 1 (McMinimee 45’)
St George: Trinity Allen, Sebastian Sinozic, Paul Bilokapic, Ryan Walsh, Carlos Villazon (Mitchell Fihlebon 65’), Jane Talcevski, Simon Verrender, Raphael Bove, Christian Cevenini (Orhan Dincer 8’), Fred Umlil, James Kovas (Phil Treharne 88’).
Sub not used: Tony Simonovski (rgk)
Coach: Vince Savoca
Central Coast: Matthew Trott, Peter Preston, Kurt Jaeger, Lindsay Henderson, Jason McMinimee, Darren Cooper, Jason Donnelly, Andrew Miles (Mathew Simon 55’), Nathan Byrn, Clint Smith (Jamie Lobb 80’), Terrie Dries.
Subs not used: Troy Ward (rgk), Adam Stotz.
Coach: Andrew Ollier
Referee: Srebre Delovski Assts: Terry Goodhew and Peter Soulios.
