Fox sports Val Migliaccio reports today that Anthony LaPaglia wants out of Sydney Hakoa. Maybe Peter could get him to the coast its just up the road a bit from Sydney clearner, better beaches, nicer people. Peter get on the blower mate The Sydney Flying Circus is nearning its end. From Star wars Darth Vader says - Master the Death Star is almost complete. Andrew Kemeny to Lowy - master Hakoa is almost complete. United can rely on Bianco By Val Migliaccio October 26, 2007 ADELAIDE United chairman Dario Fontanarosa has dispelled fears that owner Nick Bianco was about to sell the A-League's prized franchise but said he would consider talking to actor Anthony LaPaglia as a potential investor. ........................................................................... Sydney FC chairman Andrew Kemeny confirmed that LaPaglia had emailed his intention to sell his 7.5 per cent stake in the club which is worth a reported $750,000. "I told him I would not accept his resignation because he has a lot to offer the club," Kemeny said. www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,8659,22650960-23215,00.html

Wouldn't accept his resignation? ? What a load of cobblers. La Paglia wants out as a business decision - can he not sell it to someone else and then advise the Board he's done that and stepping down? Is a man not entitled to do with his investments as he pleases? If he finds someone interested (and that's a big call) is Kemeny saying he can't sell it?

Kemeny seems to have delusions of grandeur doesnt he?? The man is an arrogant, out of touch has been.
Biggest sports team in Australia?? The people of Melbourne must be laughing their heads off

Aussie Cross - yep I heard the same thing. Can't see Holywood FC getting a nod in the MLS though LA already have two teams, they'd put a third in Texas (San Antonio, big Latino population) before a third in LA. But it seems that La Paglia is looking at either backing whatever team the MLS decides to bring in next or buy an existing team.

I agree - I don't think three LA teams is good business though - the two at the moment do well because of their markets (Chivas & Beckham) dividing the market in LA further isn't a great idea when I think there are better options out there. However, La Paglia being behind a third LA team would certainly help their chances.

However, La Paglia being behind a third LA team would certainly help their chances. 1) Is the market in LA big enough for another football team? 2) La Paglia could use the experience he's had with Sydney FC as a guide on how not to let investments go. 3) From what I understand, he wasn't greatly active in Sydney FC, save for the odd PR exercise and Board meeting. So I suppose you could argue that by neglecting his investment, he got what he deserved. 4) Any investment LaPaglia would make in a MLS team would be peanuts to what some American syndicate would throw together I suspect.

1) Like I said, I don't really think so, there's certainly better options 2) Everything is a learning experience I suppose 3) Well he only really had 7% or so so he couldn't really do much 4) The difference between a Syndicate and LaPaglia is that LaPaglia is a set name, and you know that he won't be running out of money any time soon, if the MLS is after stability, which they appear to be it may be an idea.

If he joins us as an investor, I will personally apologise for the "you fat bastard" chants at the GF when he walked past our bays celebrating

Funny thing is myself & another Mariners fan were in a corporate box with LaPaglia at the AFC Champions League game against Urawa and were trying to put forward a proposal that he invest in CCMFC.

just on the question of whether LA's a big enough market - it's a city of 11 million people! it's plenty big!

I'm not saying it's not big enough - I'm saying there are better markets in the US that don't already have 2 teams in their city. I can't think of a worse place in the US to play LA is so disgustingly polluted it'd be terribly difficult!
Edit: The MLS "commissioner" gave the following list of cities they are considering for expansion: Atlanta, Cleveland, Las Vegas, a return to Miami, Milwaukee, a second team in New York, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Portland, San Diego, Seattle, St. Louis and Vancouver. Rumours are that Seattle will be coming in, San Jose is in next season, they want 3 more teams in by 2010.
