organised, tight, rolls and rolls, and sounds absolutely fantastic even if i can't understand a word of it. the chant is called 'horto magico'.

the greeks, serbs, croats and turks seem to have a really different style of support to much of the rest of the football world, and while half the time it seems mad as cut snakes, there is a priority on being super organised and to a certain extent really visually spectacular.

now aping turkish or greek fans is no more a brilliant idea than 'ooh, let's sing you'll never walk alone!', but it gives food for thought in how we can become more creative in our support. by looking at a variety of different things we can build a real marinators style.

in particular, having songs we sing at a particular time (as we're starting to do a little more) is a great idea, because it becomes distinctive and it's easy to pick up on - hence much easier for the rest of the crowd to get into.

and getting the crowd into it is just as important as motivating the team. when the crowd sings, it motivates the team to win tonight, but it motivates the crowd to come back next week, for another hit of magic. [/essay]

Quite possibly the most 'shivers-down-the-spine' video I've ever seen - gotta love the players just warming up as if nothing's going on...... imagine Lawrie or Fergie conducting us like that!!!!

Another set-play one we can try is 'stand up for the Mariners' as they come out of the tunnel -- it doesn't usually work too well when used while they are playing, same with the 'Mariners fans in the stands" chant.

We need to slow our chants down as well - too fast and it gets lost, especially when it's really noisy and one half of the bay can't hear the other.

I'm all for the conductor idea as well - I'm more than willing to volunteer if a few others will get down the front with me and "conduct", so to speak. Anything to get us all in synch. and draw more attention from the rest of the crowd to the fact that "hey, these guys are singing and chanting - wow, look at that impact, I might join in".

Anyone up for conducting with me??

conducting = good idea.

it's a good idea to have a visual rather than auditory cue for the songs, because there's a lag with sound and it can wind up sounding awful. this is also why when clapping in a song, clap above your head to keep the timing tight. the tighter the timing, the better the carry.

assuming you're not taking the piss, i think we might need to write something to follow that kind of tune, and work on a proper choreographing of how we do it. there are parts that require one singing out and the rest calling back, and everyone needs to know how the song loops around.

i could try to write something, but i don't write that well and i'm pretty busy today.

we also don't have to use anything like that, it's just really an idea for different sorts of things we could try.

key point to remember - every classic football song probably started off as a bunch of fans getting together saying 'hey, let's give this a burl'. sure, a lot of crap songs come up the same way and die off, but every now and then a corker comes out. if we're a bit creative and a bit brave, we might find that corker that is just mariners down to the ground.

To have that many people involved, and to have that amount of organisation, and clarity - and for theat length of time, is awesome. Was the game going while they were doing that?

The problem with longer chants is that they get lost because people strat screaming or cheering about something that happens on the field halfway through (although 'everywhere we go' does usually manage to reach its conclusion....that goes for around a minute, maybe just over.

It would be great to have something pretty unique for ourselves.

I'm keen to give anything a shot. If it doesn't take off, then it doesn't take off. But I completely agree with dibo's last paragraph.

That 2nd clip...that a lot of unison jumping! Although I don't think the HAL is quite up to the level of having that many spectators yet

The turkish one was pretty cool, how it was sort of an 'official' thing by having somebody on the ground...and everybody knew exactly what to do.

Now, how can we get everybody knowing what to do (like in the first one)?

We'd have to find a way to spread the simpler songs first, methinks. To have singing in the other bays become a bit normal before we try and choreograph a multiple bay thing (though as said that's not necessarily something we should try and do). For that you'd simply have a small group of us move to another bay and try and lead from there..

Though, what we need first are ideas - THEN we can figure out how to implement them. And there's no such thing as 'not worth trying', I think.

In the meantime we can keep working on organising ourselves, how to spread the singing, and what to do with Bay 15
