I can't stand the South American commentators that whenever a goal is scored just "goooooooooaaaaaaaaaaallllllllllll" for 30 seconds. Australian/English is my choice (except for Robbie Slater and Andy Harper).

The "gooooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaallllllllllll" is fantastic. Love it. But I do also like to understand whats going on for the other 89 minutes of the game, so I chose a bit of both.

The worst commentry in the world is AMERICAN. they refer to penalties as PKs ans shots from outside the box as "he's at the top of the 18". I think non-ex player english commontators are the best.

Martin Tyler is untouchable IMO as the master of the call. The ESPN MLS commentators sound like Ice Hockey commentators with their SCORE when one goes in its anoying to say the least .Not as bad as Harper,Slater and Trimboli but close.

Agree with Fish - Martin Tyler is excellent and his style reads the play well. He doesn't get into histronics like the Sth Americanos do with that 'Gooooooooaaaaaall' BS, but still lets you know that he feels excited by a good shot or play. I think Simon Hill is doing a sterling job under duress with those d**kheads he has to share the commentary with on Fox. His style is also the master of the understatement type of call, although I do fondly recall his "Kalac has let in an absolute howler" as very appropriate for the circumstances of THAT goal. So I guess I'm more biased towards the English style of call.

For me, a good commentator is there to provide information, not excitement. If the game's exciting i'll get excited about that, not because of the commentator's antics. It's the sporting equivalent of canned laughter that's only there so you know what was supposed to be a joke
We'd be f***ed for the a-league & socceroos games if they ever got rid of Simon Hill

Worst commentator on earth................
Tommy Smyth from ESPN.
Every time I hear that little Irish pricks voice it sends me into a rage.

Tommy smyth wit a "Y" hostin his segment "the Auld onion bag". he makes robbie slater seem like Martin Tyler. On the topic of Fox commentators who else could they get to replace Cockerill, Slater, Harper etc

On the topic of Fox commentators who else could they get to replace Cockerill, Slater, Harper etc Mick Kmet, Brett Taylor and Chris Dunkerley. For actually calling the game, instead of analysts, try Trent Dickerson as backup for Simon Hill.

Prefer objective commentary to the emotional outbursts those guys are prone to. Agree Tyler is the king of commentary, with John Helm a close second.
