Today, officially marks the beginning of summer. Was kicking a football with Grunta and one other fellow this morning and swallowed the 1st fly of the year. Coughing, spluttering, heaving . I love summer ;D

Another sign is that I put on a pair of shorts today not for the purpose of running, how I missed summer.

Pffft winter is for shorts, summer is for full fledged nudity. The sad part of summer starting is that the posts come down at all the local ovals and shooting practise just isn't the same.

it's not an equinox- the 'equi' refers to equal length day and night (i'm pretty sure). it's a solstice, the winter solstice to be precise.

Winter Solstice is the shortest day of the year and Summer Solstice is the longest
Equinox is equal day and night. Google knows all.
Summer & Winter have Solstices and Spring & Autumn have Equinoxes it's all to do with the earth's tilt and hemispheres.

And that's why they are in the opposite season in the other hemisphere...

MsCanada:
Summer christmases are not wrong, but different. I hate you season discriminators, seasonists. Summer is a season just like winter. Yes, it has differences but they should be celebrated not discriminated against. I just have to tell myself that this hate comes from fear and ignorance.
