“Tired but happy we returned home last night…” That little island state is bigger than you think but a cool enough place. (Obviously, like new snow on Mt Wellington when we got back to Hobart yesterday arvo). Unfortunately missed the North East of Zac’s origin but his current location, Launceston was OK. Our Hobart – Strahan – Wynyard - Longford – Hobart circuit makes me think there’s some of the fierce North – South and maybe East - West rivalry in his appraisal of the relative merits of Tassie destinations.
Hell, there’s even a WELCOME TO (Tasmania’s) CENTRAL COAST sign on the A2 just east of Burnie. (That’d be the area in the middle of the bikini line).
Seeing as other people’s holiday videos or slide shows are as boring as batshit, I’ll start again and confine my story to that which is beer or Mariner related…

Sun 25th – Mariners vs. Adelaide (away draw against comp leaders 6/10; having to get progress via texts from my son 1/10).
Tue 27th – Cadbury Factory Tour (and Zac – I didn’t unlock the doors in Chigwell). Well, family and chocolaty activity. Not generally much into tacky merchandising but then I saw it: Navy poly-cotton jacket with yellow polyester fleece lining, very subtle navy embroidered “Cadbury Tasmania” on left breast. Perfect for spring / autumn night games – must have (8/10).
Thur 29th – Unlimited free Boag’s Draught (in 200ml glasses) at the pleasures of the Governor, at his House (circa 1830) courtesy of the wife’s involvement with the breastfeeding conference that we were there for (7/10).
Fri 30th – (1) Cascade Brewery Tour (highly recommended and why does Tassie keep the best Cascade stuff there?) 3 “free” (140ml) tastings (for your $28 entry), then you buy. Draught (6/10); still don’t much like the Premium (4/10) or Pale Ale (5/10); Amber Ale, nice (8/10) bit like James Squire’s, had a schooey of that at the Excelsior en route to the GREAT Sydney FC game: Special Stout 8/10 (just under Cooper’s Best Extra); piece de resistance: Limited Edition First Harvest Ale ($6/stubby in the shop) (11/10) – if you know Little Creatures, you know what I’m talking about.
Oh, the merch. shop. Very becoming polo – navy body / yellow sleeves / white piping “Cascade Brewery 1824, Hobart” for occasions where the Mariners gradiated polo might be a bit much (10/10).
Fri 30th (2) 8pm Sports Bar at Wrest Point Casino – lots of screens, none on Fox 1 (–40/10): quick run around: Bridie O’Reilly’s Irish Pub on Davey St – it’s on! (10/10); They serve pints (10/10); 1-0 (10/10); missed Sonic’s goal (5/10); Seeing our stadium / my son, hearing the Marinators (10/10); Educating interested locals re: A-League and (where the hell’s) the Central Coast – new fans (8/10); The Penalty…. and ……let’s not rate that; Crowd 9,300 (7/10).
OK – just got invited to the Woodport, gotta go. Bring on tonight / the Kendall.
