Their last concert was the Sydney Footy Stadium as part of the Achtung, Baby tour.
The Joshua Tree is STILL the best studio album I've ever heard (honourable mention to The Cowboy Junkies "The Trinity Session"). Not a bad song on the album, and several pieces of brilliance which remain, for me, timeless. I don't think that their recent stuff rates as well, but with a back catalogue that includes War, Boy, October and Under a Blood Red Sky, this is understandable.
Bit of trivia to leave you with; my boss here at UTS used to manage the Divinyls. They were support to U2 at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado in the early 80's, where "Under a Blood Red Sky" was recorded.
Many of you will have heard Bono say these words "This song is NOT a rebel song; this song is Sunday, Bloody Sunday". My boss was standing 30 metres way on a side stage when that happened. The crowd went ballistic. All I could say when he told me was, "Wow"!!
Cheerio,

I don't really have a favourite album, but my two favourite songs by U2 would have to be 'Sunday bloody Sunday' and "Beautiful day'
Here's some random trivia: -Achtung means attention in German, i don't know how many people knew that already but i just found out the other day so i thught id share it with you al!
And some random quotes: -"He's a poet. He's a philosopher. And last night, I think I saw him walking on water." Mick Jagger introducing Bono as he received his MTV Free Your Mind award, November 1999. -"Stop the traffic - Rock and Roll" Graffiti which Bono wrote on a statue in San Francisco during the "Save The Yuppy" concert in 1987. -"Actually '78 was a really exciting time for U2. We had just discovered F sharp minor. So we had the fourth chord and we'd only had three up to then." Bono on the days when U2 truly were a three chord wonder. -"I don't think people should ever look like their hair has been ironed. " Bono comments on the mullet, 2002 -"What ever you do, do not get into a car with Bono. He's not great at the old driving." Edge on the dangers of a ride with Bono, 2001 -"It's a tough life being a pop star. You know, at the end of the day when you've paid all the bills and put the kids through college and that, you know, there's only enough left for a small island off the South Pacific." Larry pleads poverty, 1997. -"I joined a band to hit things." Larry's reason for being in U2

So, Ice Ice, you are a Chili Peppers fan, huh?
They are outstanding, and Californication is in my top 5 of all time (with "The Joshua Tree", "The Trinity Session", and both Eric Clapton's & Neil Young's MTV Unplugged Sessions).
They have a tortured history, which I reckon comes out in their music. I hope that "Stadium" is up to standard.
Cheerio,

Yeah a big fan, I know all about the history.
Flea says it's hard to say while so involved in the recording/mixing process, but he thinks stadium' is the best music yet. Every second album is better and this one is aligned with the good ones!

The last time I tried to get tickets to a U2 concert, I had no problems. It was inside as well. (Entertainment Centre). Eat your hearts out. Top concert. Basically "Under a Blood Red Sky". Auburn could tell you the date. And yes even then I was the oldest one in the audience.

I was there! 1984 - guessing about September.
Funny thing, early that year at the Narara '84 festival, UABRS was being played over the PA between bands. I remember 'Gloria' being on and the crowd went off as if there was a band on stage. (Or actually the most off I've still ever seen without a band on stage!) That was their impact even then.
This will be the first time I've seen them since then, standing/GA, 1st show.
