NRL season starts in about a month and i would expect most people to at least pay attention to it no matter how much they hate it.
I am a tigers supportor and i have been following them as long as i can remember because i was brought up around rugby league but i still have football as my number 1 sport.
I would like to see yet another close season like last year, it was good to see teams so close to each other, but it wont be as close as the A-League has been.

NRL season starts in about a month and i would expect most people to at least pay attention to it no matter how much they hate it. It is amazing how adept one gets at not even noticing it after 55 years practice! I immerse myself in NSW State League with Ryde City (and Bathurst 75), write for BOTN on several levels of the game, and go down for anorak's & groundhopper's days in the Illawarra Premier League! And Kerensa may play again, so that's another football game to watch!

I'll only care because I'm in an NRL tipping comp (I run all the comps for one site so have to be in them). But really don't give a damn who wins. Dunno why so many people on the coast still support a game that constantly neglects them, and support sides that have home grounds so far away.

Dunno why so many people on the coast still support a game that constantly neglects them, and support sides that have home grounds so far away. Simple. It's because people like myself have moved from a Rugby League town (Penrith) to the coast. I will always support Penrith and travel to some games. As I will always support the Mariners. Leah, It's good to have another Penrith supporter here !

As most people know I used to follow the league, it was the ONLY thing to do before the mariners came along.
After May last year I found myself paying less attention to the league and I'm going to be very interested to see just how I feel this year, I'm not going to intentionally not watch it or anything, just go with how i feel at the time. but I remember towards the end last year I started picking it apart in ways it just didn't shape up to a Mariners match.
With the World Cup in the middle of this season I reckon the spotlight will be elsewhere for a change!

on friday night we got the same crowd attendance for a League game at the CC stadium and its only going to get bigger now we are getting a semi. and next season numbers will be bigger with the growing support the CCM are getting.
this cant be good for NRL on the coast.
also i agree with tigs that the World cup will definately steal the spotlight from NRL.
its going to have a rough year.

i'll watch the dragons, and i'll go to some games, but i wouldn't travel interstate (or even down to wollongong quite frankly) to watch them, and i wouldn't buy a season ticket for it, but i still enjoy it.
i think on the coast though it's (the mariners' existence) going to emphasise just how crappily the area's been treated by the NSWRL/ARL/NRL over the years. near enough to 300k people and no team (as opposed to say... manly warringah or cronulla sutherland who have similar populations and a team to themselves) is a thumbing of the nose.
coast people may simply go: "bugger it, we have a football team on the coast now, it doesn't play rugby league but neither do we so who cares."

I support the broncos(way i was raised with two brothers born in QLD and parents who lived in Qld for several years) but i dont think i will get into it as much this season as i will be focusing more on the socceroos and when the a-league starts again.

I love watching league. Don't even have a team. I'd still rather watch a league top of the table clash than adelaide v bling tommorrow night.

NRL? What's that?
Never been to a game, nor ever likely to. Never watched a game either. Always mow the lawn on Grand Final day.
While I may occasionally watch an RU and ARL match, I'm totally disinterested in Thugby League.
For those that enjoy it - good luck to you, but like smokers, don't bring it near me!
God, I love every two to four years so I can avoid it by watching European Championships and World Cup instead.

I played League and Soccer, supported the North Sydney Bears for years, they were never given a fair chance by the NRL to establish themselves up here. The NRL has pulled the wool over the eyes of the people of the Central Coast, trying to give us sides like the Northern Eagles or occassional games during the season. We all waited with baited breathe for a Central Coast Team but the wisdom of the NRL gave it too the Gold Coast. We dont need the NRL, We have our own side now The CENTRAL COAST MARINERS and they will do us proud.

As a young bloke playing (then) soccer in Sydney, I unashamedly followed league, mainly I guess, as it was the sport with the profile. I also (35 odd years ago) determined that a loyal supporter had to stick with a club through thick and thin and to not be a bandwagon jumper, picked a (not-the-local) side in the bottom half of the table to follow, for ever. I still have a very soft spot for them and hope that they actually do win a premiership in my lifetime WHO MIGHT THEY BE?! ;D I've gone to games off and on (love watching any sport, especially at CCS, oh...and bring on the Winter Olympics) but the 15 (and counting) Mariners games I've been at in the last 9 months would be 500% more than in any year of league.

My two older boys played junior league (their choice) on the coast from about 10 years ago. The profile thing again. One even won a premiership (and any premiership's a premiership with the Gosford Giants 12/2's. But they've been well behind the Mariners. One (who's still a big league follower) has been to most home and some away games with his mates and is even talking about playing this year. My youngest (who's seen 13 home games with me) is DESPERATE to play his first season (for a red team?! - since he saw the Adelaide game in the CWC ) and has been counting the days til TODAY - we're off now to the Gosford City Dragons rego day. Bye!

Quite obviously the Sharks.... I'm a passionate Rugby League fan and always will be, I can't wait for Saturday night's/Sunday arvo's at Brookvale Oval this year, but this season certainly will be a little different with one eye on a certain Cathay Pacific flight to Frankfurt at 7:35am on June 10th! I can't see why people can't have a passion for more than one sport, but can understand if some don't like it, after all I don't like Union.
