I don't mean to be a bah humbug but this thread is now over 100 pages - surely enough is enough! taking a lead from DJ's comments, and also kevrenor's previously expressed frustrations at trying to get through all the social posts to find football related content on here, i'd like to add my complaint about the threads on here which seem to serve no purpose other than to have social conversations that mean nothing to all but a few posters. for example, posts about whether someone is being mean to them or ignoring them on MSN don't really have any relevance to the vast majority of the probably 100 or so people that come through the site each day (adz, kevrenor, stats for this?). i honestly couldn't give two shits if someone is blocking someone else on msn, they can surely sort that out off-channel. it doesn't need to block up the whole forum. with the reduction of the recent posts page from 40 to 30 to 20 posts, you can sometimes now only find perhaps half a dozen actual football related posts on the site when you go through that page, which i find immensely frustrating as it's the easiest way to keep up to date with what's been talked about but all the talk is irrelevant to all but half a dozen people! i'm happy to be shouted down if people disagree, but i'd like to make a personal plea to keep entirely social discussions to a minimum on this site, and keep it off-channel. note- this is nothing against the people having the chats - all of you contribute a lot to football related discussion and the marinators (well those that i know do), it's just really hard to wade through piles of stuff of zero relevance to football.

i disagree
why was "other stuff" created?
when it intrudes on the normal marinators/mariners threads in the other sections then it can get annoying
but on the "other stuff" section people can post away any garbage they like
we are a marinators community and people have other interests as well in which we can all share if we want to
that's whats being in a marinators family is about

perhaps a separate chat page would be ideal, quarantined from the football threads. ending socialising isn't the idea, ensuring that football content takes precedence is.

I thought "other stuff" was for exactly that other stuff/crap.....all other sections are football related and if crap does get into that then that is and issue but whilst it is in Other Stuff shouldnt be a problem

I don't mind the user above you thread for those who wanna participate, I just think its full of pointless shit like, so and so said this etc which is why I don't view it.
I just think that over 100 pages is a bit big now!
But those who wanna chat in there are welcome to it!

OK, Dibo has astutely noticed the cut back from 50-40-30-20 in the recent posts. This has been for two reasons - it takes a hell of a lot of grunt to 'paint' that amount of web page but when there was a huge volume of core Mariners football posts it was worth the angst that slow loading was causing some people - and with the drop off of such core posts and the rise and rise of User Above and Girl Chat I restricted it so that more people would go to the actual threads rather than vainly try the 'lastx posts'. Indeed I have been tempted to turn it off all together so most people never have to see the MSN style posts! Now don't get me wrong, I believe that as a social experiment, if you like, the growth of Mariners fans has meant many things to a lot of people - not only football related. The social interaction and for the very young and very old (like me ) is an opportunity to link with others across the net and bond as a group and sub-groups. This is healthy! (Why do you think I've suffered in almost silence!) May I suggest though that: 1. MSN or Chat Room style chat be kept to those places! 2. When you post, ask yourself - are there really many people out there interested in this? 3. When replying to someone, use at least a partial quote, so that we all know what it is about! 4. Take some time to see if there is a thread, at least on the last page of threads, on the subject before starting a new one. (And it aint just newbies who do this)

I wouldnt be surprised though if we see alot more posts in the Other Stuff section because the Season is over, i dont think there will be as much stuff in the Mariners board. and when the world cup becomes closer i suggest we have a board(or whatever thye are called) devoted to the World Cup

Don't mean to offend but yes the chats about nothing in particular are better left to other sites IMO. It's great to have discussions which allow us to get to know each other though.

I think that's what the other stuff board is for, if you want to be pedantic about it noone should be saying anything given the season is over. I don't mind threads being axed if Kevrenor feels that neccesary, but it's part of being a community, it's a way to get to know everybody else around here.

Noone should be saying anything because the season is over??? Saying anything about what?? if you're saying noone should be talking footy in the offseason you're talking garbage. The off-season is as interesting as the season. I 100% agree that msn style chat should take place in msn. "other stuff" can be used to post forum-like posts. eg. "Who likes pancakes?" The sort of reply I would like to see is :- " I like pancakes," Followed by, " because they are delicious." Not "Pancakes??? I thought you liked Steven Sweeney in yr9. I heard he was red hot for you! <3" The user above you game, despite it's intentions has turned into " the user above me sux". Reply:- "the user above me thinks I suk" Reply:- "The user above me thinks I think they suk". ad infinitum. I think the user above you game sux. Let's make the forum a medium of open discussion, a voicing of ideas and opinions. This may be about football (preferably) or about "other stuff", but please make your post worth the time it takes my 28.8Kbps modem to load the website.

other stuff is for just that, non football chat. If you are looking for football posts do not look in that forum. Easy

I don't want to prolong this thread but just note that Mick & I have not deleted any threads (except for that prat from Melbourne Victory) and few posts. They remain here as a legacy to the full gamut of input from hundreds of people - ranging from genius to imbecility! ;D I would hope the forum stays active, including football stuff, and a lot of talk is needed in the off-season about the future. For now many are tired, down even, after the GF. They will be back. Don't forget the Social Activities in the Off-Season thread - some damn good ideas in there! And now it seems only 3+ months to do them in! OK, post away!

it's just the recent posts page that beefs me. at the moment it's not as bad as it has been, but still - of the 20 posts 8 of them are either in 'user above you game' or 'girlie chat'.

other stuff is for just that, non football chat. If you are looking for football posts do not look in that forum. Easy It shouldn't be for non football chat as much as non football discussion. Is this a hopeless ideal? Will other stuff always revert to drivel or will there one day be constructive discussion re "other stuff"? Understand that I don't in any way mind discussion of "other stuff" eg. Pancakes, but I do mind girlie chat as opposed to girlie discussion. That's because I hold the ideal of a forum very high, maybe too high.

but now that football is in the off season we cant really talk about how well they went in the game and who was man of the match.......thats why the "other stuff" is getting posted in more and more.ok we have the supporters club championship but that will be over soon, then what can we talk about? ?
