Who can beat the Sharks?? OURIMBAH - ourimbahrazorbacks.rugbynet.com.au/ GOSFORD - gosford.rugbynet.com.auRUGBY PREVIEW 26th August, 2006 MINOR SEMI-FINAL Woy Woy Oval The Minor Semi-final between Gosford and Ourimbah will be a very evenly fought game. Both sides have been evenly matched all year although Ourimbah have won both their encounters during the year. On that basis they probably go into the match as very slight favourites. Both teams have strong forward packs and the clash between the two packs will go a long way towards deciding the winner. Ourimbah have the Marchant brothers, Chris and Brett, in good form while Clint Guyatt is never far from the ball. The battle between the two sets of loose forwards should be a beauty. Both sides have had their moments this year with some good performances but with some ordinary efforts mixed in with them. So there is a little uncertainty about this game. A lot will obviously depend on what team comes out and is ready to play rugby. Both these sides can go right through to the Grand Final but they have to be far more consistent in their efforts if this is going to happen. Gosford will rely heavily on Central Coast Waves Captain Andrew Moseley as well players such as Shannon Hardgrave and John Jackson in the forwards. The forward battle will be very even. Gosford may have a little more experience in the backs and this may be the difference. They have players such as Adam Carlisle, Ben Goodenough and Andrew Ryan and these players are certainly big match players. Ourimbah have youth on their side with players like half Ryan Keegan and centre Tim Hill both having great seasons. It will be a classic encounter. There is of course much to play for with the loser finished for the season and the winner having the right to play the loser of the Avoca Beach v. Terrigal Major Semi-final in two weeks time. The same two teams play in the Second Grade Minor Semifinal. Gosford will be slight favourites in this game after having lost the one game all year. However one never knows what can happen in Finals series matches. Avoca Beach take on Ourimbah in Third Grade and this will also be a very tight game, while Southern Lakes have their only grade in the semi-finals when they play Avoca Beach in the Colts game that opens up proceedings this Saturday. Games on Saturday are : FIRST Grade Ourimbah v. Gosford 3.00 pm SECOND Grade Gosford v. Ourimbah 1.20 pm THIRD Grade Avoca Beach v Ourimbah 11.55 am COLTS Avoca Beach v.Southern Lakes 10.30 am

Sharks for the cup!
Wow gone a whole season without being asked to touch judge or ref despite making myself available, any people wanting to complain about the lack of a touch judge, complain to CCRURA, because they're not undermanned!

If you don't like it don't read it. (Was it you that said that Phil)
I don't see what the problem is, this is the other stuff section, this is other stuff, the man is quite entitled to write what he's put here, seriously if you don't like rugby, why bother reading a thread that is blatantly going to be about rugby.

MATCH REPORT :
Gosford defeated Ourimbah in the Minor Semifinal at Woy Woy Oval by 27 points to 15. The game gave the spectators much to cheer about in terms of free flowing rugby. Gosford got away to a good start but the comeback by Ourimbah midway through the second half certainly brought the crowd to their feet. The game was marked by several spectacular tries.
The match was very even for the opening 25 minutes. Both teams had their chances and play seesawed from one end of the field to the other. However neither team was able to post points. Gosford was playing with a reasonably strong breeze but were not fully taking advantage of it. Gosford were putting together some excellent driving mauls that were gaining much territory but ultimately to no avail on the scoreboard. Ourimbah also made some powerful runs in this period but they also could not post point. Ourimbah kicker Tim Hill missed with a penalty attempt early on, and also Ourimbah did drop some vital ball when in attack in the backs. Chris Marchant was strong but had to be replaced by Brett Smith quite early on with a recurrence of an injury. Gosford did take the lead in the 25th minute when five-eight Adam Carlisle kicked a penalty goal. This lead was increased very soon after when Gosford scored a try in the corner. Gosford centre Nick Cash charged down an Ourimbah kick and winger Ben Goodenough grabbed the loose ball to race 40 metres to score. The conversion of this try by Carlisle had suddenly taken Gosford to a 10 points to nil lead in the 30th minute. To even cement Gosford’s lead further, another try before half time took them to a 15 points to nil lead at the halftime break. This try was initiated by Adam Carlisle who made a break 40 metres out and offloaded to a supporting Ben Goodenough who then in turn passed to centre Jarrod Christiansen who raced over in the corner for the second try of the half. At the midway point Gosford had a handy lead but had played with a reasonably strong breeze. Gosford had several good players in this period. Loose forwards Andrew Moseley and John Jackson in the forwards were strong while the backline as a whole were putting together some excellent set moves to great avail.
Ourimbah started the second half all fired up. Centre Ben Carr led by example and flanker Clint Guyatt was never far from the ball. Five eight Dane McNamara was making some inroads at times in the Gosford defence. Centre Tim Hill kicked a penalty goal early in the second half to make the score 15-3. However Gosford quickly replied with what is probably the best try of the year. Ourimbah were trying to take advantage of the breeze behind them and had kicked downfield on several occasions however with limited success. They once again kicked a high ball deep into Gosford’s half – the ball was gathered by Adam Carlisle who jinked his way up field, through the Ourimbah forwards. He crossed the half way line before making two dummy passes. He straightened the attack and passed to winger Bryce Poole who immediately passed it back to Carlisle in support. Carlisle was taken in a tackle about 10 metres out from the line however he maintained his drive and reached out to score the try. The try was Adam Carlisle at his very best. He started the attack and turned defence into attack and scored an 80 metre try. The try certainly brought the crowd to its feet. The score was 20 to 3 and everything looked to be over for Ourimbah. However to their great credit they fought back and got themselves back into the game over the next 15 minutes. They showed great spirit and tenacity. Their lock Nathan Stevens score a great forward’s try to make the score 20-8. Ourimbah did lose half Ryan Keegan with a recurring shoulder injury and his presence around the scrum base was missed. But Ourimbah continued to get back into the match. In the 25th minute of the half Ourimbah scored a converted try. Another driving maul saw flanker Clint Guyatt score a try and the conversion was kicked by Tim Hill. Suddenly the score was 20 points to 15 with still 15 minutes to go. Ourimbah were certainly back into the game and the game was up for grabs. However injuries had certainly disrupted the Ourimbah side. Prop Matt Oates also left the field at this stage. However Gosford confirmed the win with their fourth try with about 8 minutes to go when outside centre Jarrod Christiansen sliced through out wide and raced 30 metres upfield into Ourimbah’s half. He then passed inside to Adam Carlisle who raced over under the posts to score the winning try. The conversion by Carlisle had taken Gosford to a 27 points to 15 lead and this remained the score until the fulltime whistle. Gosford certainly played some excellent rugby and will now have a week’s break before meeting the loser of next week’s Major Semifinal between Terrigal and Avoca Beach. Ourimbah showed great spirit with their fight back but the Gosford backline did put the points on the board when it mattered.
In contrast to First Grade, Second Grade was a very dour game from start to finish. Gosford defeated Ourimbah by 12 points to 0 but no tries were scored in the game. Gosford did dominant the set pieces and won a huge amount of ball but great Ourimbah defence kept Gosford tryless. Five eight Toby Nissen kicked 4 penalty gaols for Gosford to gain the win for his side.
Avoca Beach were comfortable winners in Third Grade with a 17 points to 7 win over Ourimbah. It was not a good day for Ourimbah. Avoca scored three tries to one and led the game from start to finish.
Avoca Beach also won the Colts game with a 13 points to 5 win over Southern Lakes. Either side could have won this game with the score being only nil all at the half time break. There was one try apiece with goalkicking the only difference on the day

RUGBY PREVIEW 2nd SEPTEMBER, 2006 MAJOR SEMI-FINAL Woy Woy Oval AVOCA BEACH SHARKS - avocasharks.rugbynet.com.au TERRIGAL TROJANS - terrigaltrojans.rugbynet.com.auThe Major Semi-final between Avoca Beach and Terrigal on Saturday at Woy Woy Oval will see the winner progressing straight through to the Grand Final while the loser will play Gosford the following week. This will be a great game of rugby and there will be nothing left on the field by either team. Avoca Beach are undefeated Minor Premiers and will go into the match as firm favourites. They have defeated Terrigal in both clashes this year and the last game saw Avoca Beach proving big winners by over 50 points. It will be interesting to see if Terrigal can hit back after that loss which was only two weeks ago. Terrigal really have no choice and if they don’t start the game at 110 % they will find themselves in trouble again. Avoca Beach have no obvious weaknesses. They have a very strong front row headed by prop Luke Sheridan, they have wonderful locks in Jay Steele and Adam Winter and a set of loose forwards that have been taking all before them this year. Emile Thomas has led from the front and he will do so again on Saturday. Terrigal will have to match the Avoca forward pack. Flanker Ryan Metcalfe has been in fine form but will need all the support from his fellow forwards to counter the Avoca pack. The backlines are a little more even. Avoca have the experience in halves Justin Staben and Aaron Bolte, they have the strong running of centre Mitch Graham, and very speedy outside backs in Dave Maryska, James Latham and Tyson Venables. Terrigal do also have the speed out wide as well but the forwards and inside backs must get the ball to them and as quickly as possible. Terrigal centre Tane Knebel is very strong in the centre of the field and he will have to keep the Terrigal defence on the alert all day. This will be a good game between the two top teams. Both sides know they have a second chance but they also know they would love to get straight through to the big one in two weeks time. Avoca Beach have the pressure of the undefeated tag and both teams also know the loser will have a tough game against Gosford the following Saturday. Terrigal are in all four Major Semifinals on Saturday. This is a great effort. Avoca Beach and Terrigal have been neck and neck all year in Second Grade and this game could go either way. Avoca Beach won the game two weeks ago between these two sides and probably only because of that will go into the game as very slight favourites. Terrigal will be favourites in Third Grade when they take on Northlakes. Northlakes will test Terrigal but the Terrigal team has been the form Third Grade team all year. The Colts match will see The Entrance playing Terrigal. This The Entrance team is their only team in the semifinals and the entire club will be there to cheer them on this Saturday against the Terrigal Trojans. Games on Saturday are : FIRST Grade Avoca Beach v.Terrigal 3.00 pm SECOND Grade Avoca Beach v. Terrigal 1.20 pm THIRD Grade Terrigal v. Northlakes 11.55 am COLTS The Entrance v.Terrigal 10.30 am

MATCH REPORT :
Avoca Brach progressed straight to the 2006 Grand Final with a convincing 39 points to 5 win over Terrigal in the Major Semifinal at Woy Woy Oval. Avoca Beach dominated from the opening whistle and regularly posted points throughout the 80 minutes. Avoca Beach only took 8 minutes to score their first try. After a period of sustained pressure, half back Justin Staben crossed adjacent to the posts for the opening try. The conversion of the try by winger Dave Maryska made the score 7 points to nil. Very soon after Avoca Beach went further ahead when Maryska kicked a penalty goal to make the score 8-0. There was then a period where play became quite open. Both teams had periods of attack but the defence from both teams was quite physical. There were several big tackles and the intensity at the breakdown was not for the fainthearted. There was some dropped ball because of these bone jarring tackles. Terrigal fullback Ben Shine was often placed under pressure but good clearing kicks got Terrigal out of trouble on several occasions. Avoca Beach was very dominant in the lineout and Peter Steele stole several lineouts on the Terrigal throw at No.4. As well as Steele, Adam Winter was also ensuring possession for Avoca at the front of the lineout. At the midway point of the first half Avoca Beach went further ahead when winger Brookelan Morgan crossed for a try our wide. The try initiated from a break by five-eight Aaron Bolte who fired a ball to Morgan to put him in the clear. The score was suddenly 15 points to nil and things were not looking good for Terrigal. Avoca Beach continued to dominant territory, and Terrigal was finding it very difficult to get out of their own half. Avoca Beach were putting together many phases and were ensuring consistent attack. However Terrigal kept them tryless for the rest of the half through some excellent defence. Flanker Ryan Metcalfe was a standout for Terrigal at this stage. His defence was strong and was often running the ball back for the Terrigal side. Good scrambling Terrigal defence kept Avoca Beach from scoring on several occasions. A further penalty goal was kicked by Avoca Beach’s Dave Maryska just before the break to take Avoca Beach to a very handy 18 points to nil lead at halftime. Avoca Beach had almost made certain their victory at this stage. Both sides looked forward to the break as the first 40 minutes had been played in very warm conditions and most players were feeling the effects.
Avoca Beach went straight onto the attack at the start of the second half. Winger Dave Maryska scored a try in the opening minutes and he converted his own try. Avoca Beach had jumped to a 25 points to nil lead. Avoca Beach were strong right across the paddock. Prop Luke Sheridan was strong and mobile in general play, flanker Mitch Incoll was never far from the ball and fullback James Latham was always strong in attack with some very determined running. Best for Terrigal at this stage was Ryan Metcalfe, but he was well supported by half Luke Sullivan. However the difference in the game was the all round strength of Avoca. All 15 players were combining well and their support play was to be admired. Terrigal posted points after 15 minutes in the second half when No.8 Dean Hauraki crossed for a try to make the score 23-5 but these were to be Terrigal’s only points in the match. Despite the score the intensity remained and the rucks and mauls were still being competed for with much vigour. Three players went to the sin bin during the game for over vigorous play and the intense rivalry between the two teams remained for the rest of the game. The Terrigal scrum was quite strong still and on several occasions did put the Avoca eight under pressure but the match was lost and all they were playing for now was pride. Replacement hooker Mitch Hodgson scored a further try only minutes after he came onto the field. The conversion of the try made the score 32 points to 6. The final score of 39 points to 5 was reached in the final minutes when replacement prop Garth Russel came on and scored a converted try. Avoca Beach had maintained their undefeated record for the season and will go into the Grand Final in 2 week’s time as outright favourites. Terrigal now play Gosford next Saturday in the Preliminary Final and this clash will create much interest leading up to next Saturday.
Avoca Beach also won Second Grade over Terrigal by 49 points to 15. Avoca Beach totally blitzed Terrigal from the opening whistle and were in total control for most of the 70 minutes. Terrigal simply had no answer to the sustained attack from the Avoca Beach side. Avoca Beach had jumped to a 28 points to 3 lead at the break and the result was never in doubt. Winger Matt Malony crossed for two tries in a 7 try feast.
Terrigal were too strong for Northlakes in Third Grade wining by 20 points 5. Played in very warm conditions Terrigal were never headed and will go straight to the Grand Final.
The Colts game was won in the final seconds by The Entrance over Terrigal. The score ended up being 20 points to 17 with The Entrance prop Mark Donald kicking a dropped goal in the final seconds to break the 17 all deadlock

RUGBY PREVIEW
9th SEPTEMBER, 2006
PRELIMINARY FINAL
Woy Woy Oval
The Preliminary Final between Gosford and Terrigal on Saturday at Woy Woy Oval will see two sides fighting it out to take on Avoca Beach in the Grand Final. This game will be a classic with both obviously having much to play for. Both teams will see themselves as having a real chance to reach the big one and to have another go at the Avoca Beach side. Terrigal are coming off two big losses in their last two encounters, admittedly both against Avoca Beach, and will be keen to get back on track for another go at them. It will be interesting to see how Terrigal come out of the last two weeks because their confidence would have been knocked about over the last few weeks. However they know they have defeated Gosford in their only encounter this year and that was quite a convincing win. They probably know they can beat Gosford but the Gosford team also know if they play well they can trouble Terrigal and maybe even push Avoca Beach they week after. But the game this Saturday will be a close one. Both sides have speed out wide. Gosford have former NSW Country winger Ben Goodenough who can be a match winner if he is on his game. Terrigal have Denis Raft and Neil Cardow who have scored many tries between them this year. However the ball has to get to these players. The forward struggle will be interesting. Gosford will rely heavily on their loose forwards headed by Andrew Moseley and John Jackson. They are continually on the go forward. Similarly, Terrigal will rely on flanker Ryan Metcalfe, who was the pick of the Terrigal forwards last Saturday, to have another good game The tight five battle is the key however. Both sets of tight five have not totally dominated this year. Terrigal will need a big game from prop Ben Newport and lock Adam Beavis, while Gosford will hope lock Brad Porter can make an impact in the forward struggle. Gosford may have a slight edge in the backs with the experience and guile of five-eight Adam Carlisle. Carlisle is in rare form. The battle between him and Terrigal inside centre Tane Knebel will be a tough one all day. Gosford will exploit the edges of the ruck and will kick to the corners to put the Terrigal outside backs under pressure. Terrigal’s Ben Shine will know he will have to be strong in defence all day. Lee Sullivan and Mark Grills would have worked hard this week as they know that Gosford Coach, and former Terrigal custodian, will have the Gosford players fired up right from the opening whistle. There is much rivalry between these teams and they will be at each other for thew entire 80 minutes. Both teams would love to get the Grand Final – it is every player’s wish to play in the season finale each year.
Gosford and Terrigal also take on each other in Second Grade. This game will be just as close as there has not been much between them all year. Terrigal did win the last clash between these two sides but it was close. Terrigal will want to hit back in style after a very disappointing effort last Saturday when they were take apart by Avoca Beach.
Northlakes must defeat Avoca Beach in Third Grade if they are to have another go at Terrigal in the Grand Final. Northlakes have a good combination of youth and experience, and Avoca Beach will have to play well to defeat the Northlakes side.
Terrigal and Avoca Beach play each other in the Colts fixture. There is also nothing between these two sides and this will continue on Saturday. Terrigal were beaten at the post last Saturday by The Entrance and would love to have another go at them in the Grand Final
Games on Saturday are :

MATCH REPORT :
In extremely wet conditions Gosford defeated Terrigal in the Preliminary Final by 10 points to 3 and now proceed to next week’s Grand Final to take on Avoca Beach in the Premiership decider. In wet and windy conditions the game was always going to be a close affair and despite the conditions both teams put on a great display of rugby. The match was played in cold and windy conditions and Terrigal had the use of the wind in the first half – and it was wet. The opening minutes were evenly balanced with both teams having their chances to post early points. Gosford inside centre Nick Cash made a long break in the centre of the field before passing to the supporting Andrew Ryan and his pass to winger Ben Goodenough almost saw Gosford scoring the first try of the game. But good defence kept Gosford out. However for the next five minutes Gosford attacked the Terrigal line but could not get over the line. In the conditions territory was so important as both teams found it difficult to get away from their own line. It was Terrigal however who took the lead. In the 10th minute Terrigal halfback Luke Sullivan kicked a penalty goal from quite close range to take Terrigal to a 3 points to nil lead. This remained the score for the remainder of the first half. That scoreline demonstrated the wet conditions and the difficulty of posting points. Terrigal used the wind well and several long kicks in general play kept them deep in Gosford’s half. It was in this period that Terrigal inside centre Tane Knebel was excellent. He made several strong runs in the centre of the field and was the pick of the players at this stage. He put Terrigal on the go forward and troubled Gosford every time he touched the ball. He went close to scoring for Terrigal on one occasion but desperate defence by Gosford kept him out. Gosford five-eight Adam Carlisle, who went into the game with an injured knee, was once again strong. He made several bursts close to the ruck and was always dangerous in attack. The game see-sawed back and forward and both teams had their chances but neither side could put the points on the board. Terrigal fullback Ben Shine was safe, while prop Ben Newport was strong in the tight for the Terrigal side. The opening of the second half saw play continue in the same vein. It was typical wet weather rugby with both teams grinding away at the breakdown with the occasional breakout. It was a tough opening period of the second half as both teams had everything to play for. The outstanding feature of the game was the display by the Gosford loose forwards. They were the difference on the day. No.8 Shanon Hardgrave was the best player on the field and he made several good runs including one early in the second half that almost resulted in a try. Nor far behind him was Captain and flanker Andrew Moseley who was everywhere all day. His flanker partner John Norton had his best game this year. He was able to steal a large amount of ball at the breakdown which often stopped the surging Terrigal side. In the 12th minute Gosford squared the game when fullback Andrew Ryan kicked a penalty goal to make the score 3 all. The final half hour was going to be a pulsating one. Adam Carlisle missed along range penalty kick at goal but the wind behind Gosford was certainly to their advantage at this stage. The wind and some astute kicking was allowing Gosford to sustain the pressure on the Terrigal and to keep Terrigal pinned in their own half for long periods. It was in the 31st minute that the game was decided. A clearing kick from Terrigal close to their own line saw it charged down by Gosford flanker Andrew Moseley. The ball bounced around over the line near the posts before hooker Brendon Montgomery pounced on the ball to score the only try of the game. The conversion was kicked by Adam Carlisle and Gosford had jumped to a 10 points to 3 lead. Gosford were able to hang on to win the match and to have the right to challenge Avoca Beach in next week’s Grand Final at Central Coast Stadium. This game was certainly up for grabs and both sides could have won it. Terrigal probably did not post enough points ton the first half when they had the wind but it was Gosford who were bale to score try and to secure the game. It was an excellent game of rugby despite the very damp conditions.
Second Grade was also a battle from start to finish. Terrigal and Gosford both scored two tries apiece and the final score was 10 all. This remained the score even after extra time and the Terrigal side continues on to the Grand Final as a result of their higher ranking on the competition ladder. Both teams had their chances and the end result was certainly a frustrating way to finish the season for Gosford. But Terrigal now go on to challenge Avoca Beach in the Premiership decider next week.
Avoca Beach were that little bit too strong for Northlakes in the Third Grade Preliminary Final winning by 11 points to 5. Both teams scored a try each but Northlake’s try came too late, in the final seconds of the game.
Avoca Beach kicked three penalty goals in the Colts game to defeat Terrigal by 9 points to 7. Terrigal scored the only try in the game by the kicking of flanker Tom Russell saw the Avoca Beach team home.
