Central Coast
REPRESENTATIVE RUGBY SEASON COMMENCES
The Central Coast Senior 1st XV commences their NSW Country Championship programme this Saturday with a home game against traditional rivals Newcastle. Coaches Jed Meyn and Bradd Hoban have been working with the team since January and are hoping for a great start on Saturday at Woy Woy Oval.
Meym and Hoban, last year’s Premiership winning coaches with Avoca Beach, started their campaign well last Saturday with a good win over Eastern Suburbs in Sydney. This is the only trial in the lead up to the opening Championship game this Saturday. The local side scored a 10 tries to 2 win over an Eastern Suburbs selection in a trial were players were tried in various positions.
The real battle starts this Saturday when the Central Coast Waves take on Newcastle in what should be a gruelling encounter. Central Coast are the current NSW Country Champion and this will carry a certain of pressure. In fact the lical side has won it over the last two years and they will rely heavily on this experience in the weeks ahead. Second rower Adam Winter and flanker Emile Thomas will have to lead from the front and to show that experience against what appears will be a young and very committed Newcastle side. Central Coast have experience in the backline with players of the calibre of Justin Staben, Aaron Bolte and Adam Carlisle. The full programme is listed below but the home side has its first two rounds at home and this should be a telling advantage. The team plays Newcastle this Saturday, while it then takes on Central West on the 17th March at Bateau Bay. It then has the long trip to Moree for the final round before the Finals series.
Each game will be preceded by the Colts fixture which kicks off at 1.30 pm
The Programme :
10 March CC WAVES v Newcastle Woy Woy Oval 3 pm
17 March CC WAVES v Central West Joseph Banks Oval,
Bateau Bay 3 pm
24 March Central North v CC WAVES Moree
31 March Caldwell Cup Final 1 v 2 TBC
