Orkopoulos arrested on more sex, drug charges Monday Apr 16 13:00 AEST By ninemsn staff
Former NSW State MP Milton Orkopoulos has been arrested on more alleged child sex and drug offences.
The former Aboriginal Affairs minister was charged this morning after officers met him at his Hamilton home in Newcastle.
The 21 charges cover supply of prohibited drug, homosexual intercourse with child aged 10-18 and indecent assault involving alleged incidents in 1995 and 1996, bringing total charges to 54.
He was refused bail and will appear in Newcastle Local Court at 2pm this afternoon.
The former Member for Swansea was admitted to hospital last November after he was found slumped in his car following a suspected suicide attempt.
The father-of-three was taken to Mater Hospital, where he is believed to have been treated for a drug overdose.
Orkopoulos was elected to the seat of Swansea in 1999 and started serving as Aboriginal Affairs minister in 2005.
He previously worked as a trainee nurse, a steelworker, a storeman and a waiter.
His official biography says he was president of the Eastlakes Family Support Service, a member of the Regional Council of Scouts Australia and a patron of two local schools.

He will get his biggest punishment in jail. The inmates do not take kindly to kiddy fiddlers and being a politician his life will be hell.
The evil, sick man will get everthing his deserves.

In Jail they will keep him seperate from the other inmates otherwise the prison would have a death on their hands. So he won't get what he deserves he will probably kill himself before he gets in or while he is in jail.

He'll kill himself before the end of the trial.

Sick Prick there are ways and means for everything in jail they could get to him if they wanted to and i'm sure the wardens wouldn't be too fussed given what he has done

What I don't understand, is that he's been charged with another 21 offences, bringing the total to 54. So, why wasn't he already put in jail for the other 33 offences?
Seems a bit ridiculous to me!!

He should have been in jail already. he was on bail and from what i understand confined to his home as part of the bail conditions, but with the fresh set of charges the courts deemed him too risky to release on bail again don't know the details of the bail hearing so i don't know what happened

He's been refused bail a second time but his lawers are preparing to apply again with the condition that he be accompanied whenever he leaves his Mother's Nth Belmont home. He is currently residing in Long Bay jail.

no way can i see someone like him actually facing up to what he actually deserves, for 2 reasons: 1. He won't face up to it - as mentioned before he'll take the cowardly way out; it's just a matter of when. (I hope he at least gets tried and sentenced) 2. No fitting amount of punishment could possibly be delivered within one person's lietime.

(...IF he actually is proven to be guilty, of course!)

seems to be a lot of jail-experts among the forum alumni...is there something you're not telling us mick, dibo? Don't look at me - this is my first post in the thread! I do want to say though that I'm disgusted by the crimes Orkopoulos has been charged with, he’s still innocent til proven guilty, and whatever the result he still has certain rights. If he’s found guilty and jailed I’d personally be really disappointed if he was bashed in jail or whatever else, or if he committed suicide. I’d prefer that he was stuck with spending the rest of his days thinking about the boys he’s abused and the life and career he threw away. Waking up every morning with that as your first thought would be more painful than any beating, and if he’s guilty of what he’s been charged with, then the pain would be well deserved.
