Was the national 50km Championships:
So yea I headed off to Canberra this weekend to run in the national 50km championships, held as part of the Canberra Marathon.
We set off at 7am on Sunday and I quickly settled into a rhythm of running 7min/km and was able to keep that up for quite a while passing through 21.1km way ahead of schedule much to my surprise. At about 30km it started getting tough and I just tried to keep up a decent walking pace running where possible doing about 11min/km. At about 38km Jos (Dad's friend) decided he'd come with me for the rest of the way and I was happy to have the company, come 41.5km, Jos decided to run off and get a photo of me crossing the marathon finish, and at that stage Keg (Coolrunner) caught up with me so we decided to run through the marathon (where he was to stop) together. Anyway the last 7.8km were very tough, Jos kept walking with me and Aki (a friend of mine in Canberra) joined in as I soldiered on the last 7.8km. It was getting really hot by this stage and I was struggling, Aki saw some friends at about 45km so headed back with them but come 48km we saw her again so she decided to help me to the finish "you're phenomenal" was her remark after she did advise me to pull out at 29km and thought the last 7.8km would take 1:15, so it was much appreciated that someone thought I was actually good. I cramped up about 100m from the finish, making for a dramatic finish, with a bit of a crowd around, Jos said to me "Don't worry there's time, just make sure you get there" but I decided to just go as best I can to the finish, rather be in lots of agony for a short time than agony for a long time.
42.2km (Marathon): 5:36 (21min PB)
50km: 6:54 (36min PB)
And by the way I was youngest ever finisher of the national 50km championships and I am Australian u/23 Champion
