Hope those on the CC have the power back on soon, and all is ok there. As for those unfortunate enough to be in the Hunter, I hope no flooding around where you are, take care.

I had wondered about the existence of a thread such as this Just got power back ;D (off since Friday night here). No power also means no water at our place (tank/pump) so sucks. And waterbed - Brrrrrr Flying stick dents in the car Still, the Somersby tragedy, I know people that have lost cars and the I know of quite a bit of flood damage, more so in Newcastle (Jets fans affected - our thoughts are with you at a time like this). I'm lucky really.

Yea the family at Somersby is a very sad story indeed, and there was that elderly couple up north, I hope everyone is OK, noone is sick or injured and that any damages are minor. I wracked up 39 hours without electricity, luckily we still had cold water, but you just don't realise how lucky we are in Australia until this sort of thing happens.

We too got back electricity about two hours ago since losing it on Friday. Some 'long' weekend... glad we got it back - still some people may not have power till later this week...

Here's my story....and I'm sure there are others with similar or worse than me, so sad to hear of lives lost. Lost power at home (Wyong) Friday lunchtime, got it back yesterday at about 1:00PM. All frozen food gone. Had a cold shower on Friday night, and a luke warm one last night. Lost a tree from the front yard, it luckily fell parallel to the building and didn't damage anything. I had to drive in Sydney on Friday night, and the weather was treacherous. Had to drive across the Sydney Harbour Bridge a few times in the first half of my shift, and you were virtually tacking into the wind (turning the steering wheel into the impact of the wind) in order to keep the length of the bus within the lane! Got sent up to Hornsby to do some RailBus work for the line to Gosford, but they had the line running by the time I got there at 10:00PM. The drive home on the F3 was a nightmare - debris all over the road, trees down onto lane 1 or lane 3 with no warning as you approach - like a warzone in parts. Don't wanna experience that sort of driving conditions for some time to come. Woodbury Park Drive had a tree across the road, so I tried to get into Mardi via Johnston Rd., and nearly drove into water! Got out of Johnston Rd. before the water got too deep, and went back to Woodbury Park Drive - by then the tree had been moved enough to get a car thru. Took me nearly 2 hours to get home from Sydney, a trip that would normally take 1 hour at that time of the night. When I got home, I found that a town house two up from me had a gum tree land on its roof. Still there now (waiting on SES). The tree's fall was broken by a smaller one in it's path so the damage is very minor, but the Strata has lost it's communal TV aerial (was on the roof of this townhouse). Just emailed Strata Management about getting someone to assess the structural integrity of the roof for that townhouse and relieve the anxiety of the owner (he and his family are sleeping downstairs for fear of the tree moving and coming down into the ceiling!). The garden maintenance guy for our village came around to clean up the branches and trunk from my tree and the branches that my neighbour was able to chainsaw off the tree that landed on his place. Then the garden guy did a really nice thing and removed the stump I had in my front yard and covered the hole up. Having gone thru the hassle in years past of removing tree stumps I was very happy he did this for me!

To all Football fans and indeed everyone living on the Coast and Hunter region i hope that you and your family are all safe and well and that nothing has been damaged.
Makes my school holiday boredom and cold tassie days seen like a walk in the park compared to what everyone up there must be going through.
Take care everyone.

My children Ashlea, Miccaeli & Zachary (he is a quasi-regular in the Bay) live in Aberglasslyn, a western suburb of Maitland. Thankfully, they are on high ground. I spoke to the kids' Mum when I got back from Bathurst this morning, and she will not be able to get to work in Maitland City tomorrow.
The Hunter is a raging torrent today. The images of the water on Sky News, where you drive over the river from Maitland to Lorn, are unbelievable. Ditto Singleton and Branxton (Dru, hope you are OK mate; can you get to Liddell tomorrow??).
Also, the flooding in inner-city Newcastle was extraordinary and frightening to watch. Hope all our Newey friends (hello, Mr Celery) are OK.
I hope all forumites join with me in wishing the families of the Berkeley Vale family who died so tragically at Somersby sincere condolences. Same for all the other families who have lost their loved ones in the past few days.
Also, I hope everyone on the Coast gets power back on ASAP.
Regards,
AM

Cheers Auburn Yeah I'm fine, hopefully all are well in Newcastle/Hunter and down on the Coast.
The fears of us getting caught by flood waters were around on friday and we shut the pit around lunch time and went home. fears of the '55 flood repeating meant lots of caution around here the last couple of days, luckily I'm a fair way from the river and wasn't door knocked about evacuating (Most of the flooding is the other side of the river from what I understand). I don't have to work tomorrow so won't even try to make Liddell but should of settled down by Tuesday when I do. We also avoided the high winds that seemed to have done a lot of the damage in the coastal region so contently sat out the storm on Saturday watching the swans and the swifts get up.
Condolences to those families who have lost members, Also speedy recovery to any one hurt on the roads or in general through this event.

Tell you what, my work picked a funny week for me to go away...... I departed for Brisbane on Tuesday morning, and flew right into what hit here on Wednesday afternoon on the way to Bundaberg in a Dash 8. Never again, thankyou very much. The wind and rain tossed the plane around like it was some sort of a toy, and the landing into Bundy town was awful - half slid across the runway as it was being buffeted by winds. I was an okay flyer before this, but for the subsequent 4 flights I had after that I was terrified. Way to ruin one of my favourite pastimes, stupid weather. Rather annoyingly on Thursday and Friday, the commercial network news up north only had a few minutes here and there, and my sole source of information turned out to be Sky News. Still, I was unable to get through to my girlfriend for about 12 hours - a friend of hers went over to her house for me and let me know she was okay - their street flooded and she was blocked in overnight. Unfortunately, she still doesn't have power back. Fun times for all.

We lost power about 2-3am on Saturday, only just got it back. Fortunately that's the length of our suffering. I hope everybody else is well and safe and haven't suffered too much damage. That incident at somersby is tragic, thoughts go out to relations and friends - actually, to all that have perished. Working in Erina fair on Saturday, must've had about a hundred people ask us for 'D' sized batteries, apparently nowhere in the Fair had any left As for those emergency workers busting their butt to keep us all safe and also managing the cleanup - I don't think words can express the gratitude NSW feels towards you at this time.

I too presumed there was a thread like this!
Back on line after 2+ days .... we only had a tree come down in Epping over the Optus lines .... TV, Internet, Phone! Power out in next suburb for a day or so. All this is mere inconvenience compared to those on the Coast and in the Hunter! Best wishes to you all!
I am old enough to actually remember the Hunter flood of 1956! Best wishes too to any Jets fans coming on here!
As for those lost ... we take life for granted and grumble about nothing of much importance really, but it can be snatched away so easily - most of us will have driven some of those roads, esp. the old highway! Very sad.
Well done the emergency volunteers! Guys and gals you are what makes Australia a special place. My son Owen got an SES call even though he is studying in Victoria .. that is how desperate they needed people.

Yep, apparently the official declaration of a natural disaster zone or a state of emergency means that help comes from interstate aas well. A friend in the fire brigade just had a 12hr break to sleep after going for 48hrs straight. he reckons itis worth it to hear all the stories unfold over the radio

our story - our bub was born on thursday morning at 1.47am and it was on friday baby and mum were released from hospital to come home to a freezing house with no power or heating - we had to make use of heaps of blankets and clothes and the wind was damn scary (our house sits up high near brisbane water so it catches heaps of wind)... we were without power for 2 days, i didnt feel it was safe to take bub outside in the wind cos one tree in particular was being thrown around by the wind, it was scary - 2nd worst storm ive seen (worst was in sydney about 15 years ago when the sky was green and we were without power for a week)... we were offered accommodation but toughed it out and when the power came back on we were so happy - a tough first few days for bub but he is fine and he is our little champion NS
