I had to drive to wollongong for a basketball tournament on friday arvo, I have never been so scared in my life driving down the freeway. The tournament was also suposed to be held at maitland, newcastle and gosford, and only newcastle went ahead. Maitland was called off on sunday after an SES request, Gosford was called off due to the fact there was no power. It was just good to see that everyone drove sensibly on the freeway, because there was so much potential for accidents. I hope that everyone is doing ok and that the power comes back on soon.

At Forresters Beach we lost power on Friday morning just after 9am and it just came back up at about 3:25pm Tuesday. One palm tree down on our property that did barely any damage.
Immense boredom and inconvenience was our main prob so we are lucky compared to some. I smell a bit too.
All the best to everyone.

there are many downsides in living on a hill, but the sloep is quite beneficial in times like this. I was fortunate to not loose power or have any damage done during the past few days. School on friday was a disaster, had no ower from 8am till 1pm, no heat/light/hotfood. bad bad bad. Best wishes to all, hope everythign returns to normal soon.

Also, the flooding in inner-city Newcastle was extraordinary and frightening to watch. Hope all our Newey friends (hello, Mr Celery) are OK. Thanks AM! Really sad about the Somersby tragedy. That's certainly was the worst it got. We’ve just got the power back on at our house last night. The damage to the city up here has been terrible, with thousands of fallen trees, power poles, plus collapsed buildings, fences, and cars strewn around in ditches, canals, etc. The big ship is still stranded off Nobby’s Beach, of course, making a it a popular tourist destination. Very impressive views I have to say! (See photos) picasaweb.google.com/srbrad/2007JuneStorm?authkey=uMkKCW_Ed4wI was home with the flu Friday night when Louise, my wife and Teia (Celery stick) came home from work and disappeared into the storm. After I hadn’t heard from her for an hour and a half (normally a 15 minute drive) the panic set in. The phones were not working properly (neither landline nor mobile) so I dragged myself out of bed, donned the wet weather gear, grabbed a torch, and waded out into the dark and the floods. It was pouring rain, lightening everywhere, and cars had water up to their roofs at this stage. I managed to wade a few kilometers, looking for our car, but couldn’t spot them. By this stage the power lines were coming down in the wind, so it was dangerous to be walking in waste deep water. I managed to finally get through to Louise on the mobile. To my immense relief, she and Teia had been able to get out of the floods and drive back to her Mum’s place in town. So Louise & Teia spent the night there, and I walked back home, helping stranded motorists along the way. Some idiots were still trying to drive through the 5-6 foot of water! I got home safely, and an hour later had stranded friends on our doorstep looking for a place to stay for the night. We had an interesting time huddled inside with the storm howling outside. The last two days has been spent navigating the streets with trees toppled everywhere, landslides, etc. While our street had a few big trees down, we survived pretty well with a little minor flooding. Unfortunately, our rental property got clobbered though. There goes the insurance excess! Considering the massive amount of damage, the rescue services, power and phone services, etc. have been brilliant in getting things back to normal. Best wishes to all in Scumland, CC, and Blingland who were affected.

Without causing cause for alarm, more heavy rainfall is expected tonight/tomorrow and over the weekend.
Let's hope it is no where near as bad as last weekend.

Up to 4 inches on friday - yet other forecasts merely predict showers. And I think it was supposed to rain all week.
I think it's safe to assume that they don't have a clue what kind of weather we'll be getting this weekend....
i read a great story in the telegraph on how this has become a massive tourist boom - the area has attracted thousands of people and with that food vans, people selling pasha bulker t-shirts and buskers
Very true. Haven't seen the T-shirts, but the ship was for sale on eBay for a short time yesterday not my doing). Some very funny comments were added to the bids before the wowser moderator deleted it. There is at least one kebab\hot dog unit there. Very surprised that the Surf Club is not doing something to raise money. The biggest impact, apart from the car and foot traffic, is constant buzz of helicopters (media and Port Authority\Salvagers).
