The personal doctor of pro wrestler Chris Benoit, who killed his wife and son and committed suicide, turned himself in on Monday to face federal charges in connection with a federal drug probe, the physician's lawyer said.
Lawyer Manny Arora said Dr Phil Astin would face a single charge involving improperly prescribing medication, and was to appear before a magistrate in the US state of Georgia later in the day.
Federal drug agents have taken over the probe into Astin improperly prescribing testosterone and other drugs to Benoit before he went on a killing spree in his suburban Atlanta home last month.
State prosecutors and sheriff's officials are overseeing the death investigation.
Earlier, the Georgia prosecutor investigating the case said he would not file any state charges.
Astin prescribed testosterone for Benoit, a longtime friend, in the past but has not said what, if any, medications he prescribed when Benoit visited his office on June 22 - the Friday before the weekend when the killings occurred.
Anabolic steroids were found in Benoit's home, leading officials to wonder whether the drugs played a role in the killings.
Some experts believe steroids can cause paranoia, depression and violent outbursts known as "roid rage".
Toxicology tests on Benoit's body had not yet been completed, state officials said.
Authorities have said Benoit strangled his wife and seven-year-old son, placing Bibles next to their bodies, before hanging himself on the cable of a weight-machine in his home.

I been into "sports entertainment " for quite a few years ( see decades) and my boy asked me if any of the wrestlers from years back had done anything like this, I honestly dont know, but dusty rhodes, harley race, ric flair, all travelled and partied and I dare say took roids as much or more than benoit in their day . Also on the Eddie Guerrero dvd, Benoit was part of the group that got eddie the help he needed, does this make him a hypocrite? I dunno...still a bloody shame though

I am just amazed that there are people who watch that crap and know who he was  To refer to anyone in pro wrestling as a "great athlete", "tough and cool", "can't believe it"  . I worry about this world.  |

Its the male equivalent of home and away, thats the way I look at wrestling. Its all fake, I know it is, but id sure as hell watch it rather than that other crap on channel 7 at 7.
And sometimes you see people actually get hurt, which is a bonus. If I knew there was ever a chance Bek Cartwright could get smashed in the face with a chair, id watch that for sure.

matter of fact think i'll watch some now...come on over bear and we'll watch some ECW or sumthin, and bring Andrew Clark, he dont mind a bit of RAW or Smackdown

foreign is absolutely spot on, I know a guy who used to wrestle on Ch 9 back in the early 70's and he can barely walk from getting slammed 3 nights a week for years on end
pre-determined YES, not hurting themselves..NO...good fun to watch...MOST OF THE TIME
