I want you all to have a listen to this... www.selectivemutism.org/smg/spongebobsquarepantstheme.mp3I'm sure a lot of you will be familiar with it, but for those who aren't, its the theme song to a very popular cartoon that is set in the ocean. I'm not running it against Yellow Football team (yellow football team doesn't do it for me but i dont speak for the group) but I think it's really cool and fits well with what we are doing, even if just for a new personalised chant. Here's the transcript: Captain: Are you ready kids? Kids: Aye aye captain Captain: I cant hear you! Kids: AYE AYE Captain! Captain: Oooooh, who lives in a pineapple under the sea? Kids: SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS Captain: Absorbent and yellow and porous is he Kids: SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS Captain: If nautical nonsense be something you wish Kids: SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS Captain: Then drop on the deck and flop like a fish Kids: SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS Captain: Ready? 'All together ': Spongebob squarepants Spongebob squarepants Spongebob squarepants Captain: Spongebooooooob Squarepants! YarrYaahaarghh We have plenty of loud voices in the middle that could act as 'captain' to lead it such as froggy or auburnmariner. It's a real partyin rockin seafaring chant. And Marinators fits in perfectly with the syllables of spongebob squarepants. People who dont know the words still have an important part to play throughout as yelling MA-RIN-A-TORS is really the main part of the song. Here's a rewrite off the top of my head Captain: Are you ready boys? Bay16: Aye aye captain Captain: I cant hear you! Bay16: AYE AYE Captain! Captain: Oooooh, We live in a place called bay 16 Bay16: MA-RIN-A-TORS Captain: Blue and yellow and noisy are we Bay16: MARINATORS Captain: We follow a team that comes from the coast Bay16: MARINATORS Captain: If you like a beer well we drink the most! Bay16: MARINATORS Captain: Ready? 'All together ': Marinators Marinators Marinators Everyone: Mariiiiinators YAAARRRGGHHHHH I can imagine us all swinging our beers around and having a chuckle like pirates doing this one. Anyway I thought I'd just chuck it out there and see what people thought.

Hmmmmmm, I think I'll need to hear that 'live' to pass judgment. No offence, but it sounds a bit too 'kiddie winks' for Bay 16. ;D
Good effort though!

Love the spongebob song WT! Problem is, I think the idea of a 'theme song' in this instance is for the whole stadium to get into (similar to how the AFL crowds do) With the spongebob song, I can see it working nicely in bay16 but not as a theme song for the whole stadium. Just my opinion.

Like I said, it's probably more of a unique chant that we could have fun doing once a game, and I like that its original, other clubs wouldnt be singing the same tune just with different words. Might be good to just break up the Mariners Mariners Mariners with something different.
The whole stadium isnt going to sing the yellow football team song either. Note this thread is called theme song for the Marinators. What the AFL fans sing is the club song. And unless I've missed something, we're not writing the club song. We're writing something by us, for us, to bring bay 16 together in united song once a match with something a little more meaningful than Celery...

I was under the wrong impression that this was about the 'afl' type club song. Sorry dude. As I said then, I can see it working nicely in bay16...I like it.

No need to be sorry, it was just a misread. But come to think of it I seem to remember a long time ago some word about the club getting someone to write an actual club song. I assume there will be one before the comp starts because the boys will need to be singing it in the dressing room after they beat Perth in round 1. Does anyone know anything about this official song?

I thought we talked about a song for the marinators, not the club
Let the club organise their own song.
I have a 1978 record from Benny and The Jets in which they wrote an official song for Newcastle KB United.
"We're KB Uni-ted We'll band em in We're KB United We're gonna win"
