I guess the name Marinators is gonna stick now, would anyone object to me knocking a site together, getting a domain name, hosting it etc..? Just some early thoughts for a site would be somewhere to put all the photos from the games, grab the latest song sheet, and of course a link to this forum. Maybe this is a crap idea.. or someone else is keen on doing it? Let me know

Let me know Adz, there already is one, linked from this forum and vice versa - which is where the photos are: www.users.tpg.com.au/lesuth/member/Mariners/mariners.htmlMr Celery has been waiting to see what happened with the official club site, and also what came out of Saturday night. I spoke to him in the Kendall bar about building up the fans material now we exist. He has a professional background in web building, but not a lot of time.. Why not message him with ideas, and offers of help .. better not to duplicate effort!

I've been searching the site for the person who coined 'Marinators'. I haven't found it yet, so can anyone remember or own up! I have Blackadder, Pieman, and Rubbernose in my mind. On 2KY Football Fever I was credited with it by Lawrie McKinna, so I want to set him straight. It looks like the name sticks. The media seemed to have picked up on it, although I haven't seen or heard much myself - too busy with my football media work. I know the club wasn't too keen, not sure whether it was the Terminator connection of the drinking to excess imputation! lol The latter certainly fitted many of those trying to stand in front of me by the end of extra time! ;D I was the old bloke in the Marinators shirt and black Studs Up cap, with two blond daughters in the pink bacardi breezer caps - one kept screaming inanities - its OK she is a Marconi NSWPL supporter, she can't help it! BTW - Marinators trivia - the name is previously used by: San Diego pop-folk-rock band, "The Marinators." Matt coined the name after years of using his favorite verb, "to marinate." They were popular and played many gigs in San Diego. The Marinators had a marvelous summer tour in Europe in 2001. They stayed in a northern Italian city. Being a good looking German-Italian, Matt would like to spend more time in Rome. Soon after their time in Europe the Marinators disbanded. A football team at Bath University in England An Australian band called the Ancient Marinators. Let's hope it isn't copyright. Go you Marinors, go the Marinators!

I'd rather be a 'Marinator' than a Rowdie! I'm very happy to be both! BTW - for the several other Rowdies among us, when we missed the train and were sitting at the station some Newcastle Uknighted fans came to get on their train north. They seemed decent blokes, came over and shook our hands. When they found out 3 of us were Breakers Rowdies, they said 'awesome' - 'Breakers stadium that was excellent'. I wonder if Newcastle fans (all dozen of them ;D) will get their act together? In the Leagues I was talking to the ex organiser of the official United supporters club - he's given up! I wore my Marinators shirt to the CCUFC game at Pluim on Sunday and got some appreciative comments. It is going with me to South Australia tomorrow, just in case!

Hey Adz, I'm happy to roll the current supporters site into one hosted by you in exchange for joint admin access.
Perhaps a few of us could manage it jointly, eg. you, Krevenor, MarinerMick, me, etc.
We could do with a dedicated domain name, server space, quality web\graphic design, some extra cool functionality, etc.
The aim = to be the most sophisticated supporters site in the country (with a touch of irreverence to suit the Marinator brand!)

Sounds good, yeah some early thoughts are: - Admin access for MrCelery, mods on this forum (after all they started all this nonsense ) - I can sort out the domain and take care of hosting - As for the site, maybe have it so Marinators can log in and bash out a quick review of their experience at the game (if they remember) for approval / "publishing" to the site by admins - Marinators can login and upload piccies from the game/pub (subject to admin approval too ) - Other stuff! - I have a few ideas that might be a bit tricky to organise, and I'm sure we can think of some more stuff to make us the number one a-league fan site, to go along with the number one a-league team ;D We are flat out at the moment so I won't be able to knock this out in a few days, but should have something decent up well before the start of the season.

Just a few suggestions for when the website gets going
Marinators Player of the Year award, weekly updates
Details on away trips/gatherings to watch away matches/social get togethers (eg christmas/new year parties etc)
Prehaps a format such as a Webzine
Just a few ideas off the top of my head

With MarinerMick's suggestion of an opening night for the website and logo launch, I thought I'd bump this thread back up to the front.
How is it all coming along Adz/Celery?
I would love to do some writing for it. Perhaps a stylised history of the marinators, from a marinators point of view...
What do you think guys, you should all feel free to throw out ideas as to what you want on our site. Go crazy.

I've contacted Celery and Adz with regard to any help I can be in any shape or form. One of my suggestions was a MOM poll, best dressed poll etc similar to the ones we see on the SBS site each week. Depending on when the site was up and running (any ideas Adz & Celery?) maybe we could all vote on our fav marinators flag/banner/logo/etc etc if they were displayed somewhere on the site?

How is it all coming along Adz/Celery? I would love to do some writing for it. Perhaps a stylised history of the marinators, from a marinators point of view... It's coming along. Adz has mocked up some good graphics and we've picked a pirate font! Please let us know what things you would like to see on the site, and we will try and build them in. As any good webmaster knows, a stylish site is not a succesful site without a team of people making it work, whether they be regular contributors who are 'on staff' or the occasional author. Depending on the design, there will be plenty of assistance sought to manage the various bits. I'm in the middle of writing a mini-history of the Marinators, focussing on some of the key personalities that have done the ground work in setting up the show. Some interesting facts in that! But it is only from my perspective, and only covers up to the start of the WCC games, so could do with some additional content and stories that I've not been a party to.
