I thought this topic deserved its own thread, so here we go.
A 'Charity Shield' match between some 'Marinators' and some 'Bling Fans' is being organised. The idea is to raise funds for charity (Teen suicide) and create huge publicity potential for the promotion of 'friendlyness of the new football supporters' The Bling guys are also right behind it in the right spirit. Here is a response from one of the organisers/shakers and movers on the Syd FC fans site...
Off the top of my head:
1. Sydneyfc-unofficial.com will sponsor a nice trophy, either a shield or a cup nothing huge, but nothing tiny either, to be called something like the "State Of Youse" cup/shield.
2. When you set a date and location, we'll have it as a top line story on our front page from the day you give me details till the day after the game, we'll have a page for the story with everything on it, this will include travel details team sheets and any other information that's relevant. I'll update the $ raised so far and a list of contributors.
3. I'll come and photograph the day out.
4. I'll do an article on it for the website and put all the photos on the site.
5. I'll make the photos available to anyone who wants them.
6. I'll put in my $10
7. Anything else I can think of.
Thats the kind of ' great idea..anything we can do to help' attitude we are getting ! Fantastic, "loves it!"

Also, for those who haven't been there themselves, the response on Sydney's forum has been extremely positive so far. Plenty of them have put their hand up to play, and others to do some food, offer other support, and just to cheer. They are seeing the same vision for the day as we are, and have even started thinking about how to put their team together.
I'd imagine we would have 40 or more willing players once word gets around about this, so i think we should try to cap it around 30 if possible so those that do play will at least get 30 minutes.
Another option if response gets out of hand for both teams would be stretching the match to 120 minutes?
Really I dont think there is a problem not getting any longer than 30 minutes though, you can get a few touches, have some fun, and pop back into the stands where the real marinating is done. I know if I was playing a full match I'd be taking it as a perfect opportunity to work my way into next years mariners squad if lawrie was there!

I think what we need to do is to limit the number of players to somewhere between 20 and 30 in the squad (see my thread for 'players') otherwise it gets out of hand. See what I mean about 'aiming high' WT....this thing is ALIVE matey!

let's also investigate insurance implications as it might more expensive the more players

Well if we must limit it, how bout at 22. So at least we dont have 20 people spewing that they missed out while two of us actually get to play a full match.

As far as 'jerseys' go, I was thinking of us just wearing yellow, but how about if we have 20 t shirts done, with 'marinators' over the back shoulders and numbers 1 - 20 (goalies have to be different, say dark blue?) that would cost say $10 each? (mick?) and we charge the 20 players $20 each which covers their 'charity donation' and the cost of their 'jersey' (which would be like a collectors item I rekon!)
I did think that maybe we could go with your idea for the marinators jerseys mick, and have them all numbered 16! That would create some 'theatre' with the ref! But then I imagined someone owning a 'players t shirt' with a number other than all the marinators which indicates he was one of the 20...what a badge of honour to own!
What colour shorts...dark blue?

money is an unknown yet becuase of insurance
i'm getting quotes as we speak for a 200 run of marinator shirts with 16 on the back - may or may not be available for this date
i was hoping that each group could borrow the WCC strip from each club - how good would that be and would solve heaps of hassles

i think people should pay for the priviledge of being in this match to cover both insurance and donation to charity
i was thinking a figure of $25

Yeah players cover insurance, plus the little charity bit.
If we did borrow WCC shirts, the Sydney boys would have to as well, making it that little bit tougher. Should get them to start working on that now so we have as much time as possible to work out an alternative if that fell through.

It would be great. If we get it nicely tied in with the meet the players day then I'm sure they would all be around on the day. I have many different images that would be great. Them coaching us, them refereeing, Danny Vukovic having a stint in goals perhaps?
And I feel that froggy should do at least one stint on the field as Marinator Man. Imagine him heading in a corner with that blue wig. It'd just be another thing to keep the kiddies entertained.
I have to say I'm an advocate of playing a full 90 minutes. If this gets a roll on and we get the word out, and its tied in with the meet the players BBQ, there could be a decent amount of people there. The least we could do is put on as proper a match as we can manage.
Maybe I'm just saying this because I'm one of the ones who could play a fair chunk of it.

I think we're better off getting t shirts done for the players. As WT said, if we get mariners cwc shirts, syd fc have to try and get theirs and it gets harder. I'm all for the 'paying for the privilage' thing....thats a big part of it, raising $'s for charity

Two ideas:
Two games, one for the hackers an intra-club game between two sides made up of Marinators. And then a serious team to take on the Sydney FC side.
or
Three teams of eleven players, playing thirty minute periods each.
Either of these ideas enables as many Mariners fans to have a kick as possible.

Either of these ideas enables as many Mariners fans to have a kick as possible. We dont want a 'serious' side to play them, that sort of takes away from the appeal of the day. It's all just a bit of fun and the level of skill (and fitness) on the field should reflect that. If we change the whole team over at the 30 and 60 minute marks of a 90 minute match, I believe that would take away from the match. The whole thing would have to stop for a few minutes while everyone changed shirts and everything. It's meant to be for entertainment purposes as well as giving everyone here a fair go, so we need to find a balance. I think none of this sort of thing really needs to be in concrete right now so we can work it out after we have a full response from the marinators to see how many would be really interested, after ice hockey probably.
