definitely guest referees. From past experience, to qualify for player insurance, they usually insist on a qualified referee from the Refs Association. They are usually keen to do it, as it is enjoyable fitness training for them. Make contact with the Ref's through their fixtures person. While it is probably possible to just bung in anyone as a ref, I think what we are proposing here is a high profile event, so best to do it right.

insurance - mr celery when he logs on will help us Past experience has been the insurance is not all that prohibitive, particularly if you are already a registered player and covered that way. For the Rowdies tournament we went through the local Soccer Federation, but paid the money directly to Norwich Insurance if memory serves me. can we leave the insurance details to you mr celery?

Mr Celery, So if a player is registered already, are you saying that the insurance is covered? And what about a player registered in the local 'churches comp'....still covered?

Two questions from a kid with no idea about all things insurance.
1. Would the fact that say Fergie isn't just anyone have any weight in the matter? I'm sure he knows more about football than most of the refs on the central coast. Also the fact that it's a highly friendly match? Or is it all by the book non-negotiable type stuff?
2. Could we get participants to sign something before they play that confirms organisers hold no responsibility over injuries?

WT, I don't know for sure but I'm fairly certain that both answers are NO! insurance companies and regulations are really pedantic in these matters I have found.

Yeah I assumed as much otherwise someone else would have said it themselves
Well I'm off to indoor soccer I'm sure with the way this is going by the time I get back it'll be refereed by Pierre Luigi Collina and be played at Old Trafford.
I'm just glad I can claim the credit for the original idea ;D

Mick, if Ben Coonan 'gets on board' so to speak, presumably it will be because (among other reasons)they see the potential 'good will' publicity.
Does this mean we can leave the 'contacting the 'media machine' to them (seeing as they would have all the contacts?) or will we need to get going and contact them all ourselves?

Mr Celery, So if a player is registered already, are you saying that the insurance is covered? And what about a player registered in the local 'churches comp'....still covered? When we ran the Rowdies comp, any player who had paid his rego for an official competition was automatically covered by the insurance already paid as part of the rego.
can we leave the insurance details to you mr celery?
Before answering that, where is the game to be played, eg. I assume it will be under the auspicies of Soccer NSW???. Who will be the players and what Associations are they registered under? I've never dealt with Soccer NSW. Are there any reasonable people to talk to there? When we did the Rowdies Tournament through NNSWSF, they tried to prevent it by instructing the referees to boycott it. Luckily, the refs were cool and on our side, and we managed to get the insurance pushed through a local Club and Amateur Association without NNSWSF realising what we were up to. Once the refs knew we were insured, they told the Federation to f@#k off. It was all perfectly legit, but had NNSWSF realised, they would probably have put some pressure on the Club to boycott as well. Now you know part of the reason I don't support the NNSWSF backed Uknighted Jets! Who would be the sponsoring Club for our match?

Otherwise, my original idea was to look at Ourimbah (close to trains/ tall timbers. Use Mick as our contact there etc) As far as who is playing, all I have at the moment is a list of about 8 'marinator' names, so we'll need to get actual names and associations etc. should we make it a condition that the players MUST be playing in a league already (for ins purposes)?

If you have to already play in a league I'm out I'd be willing to pay extra personally to cover that. I'll probably sound naive but surely it cant cost THAT much/be a huge hassle to get insured to run around for one game. I dont know anything about the Rowdies tournament, but as far as what this match is, if we managed to get both the Mariners and Sydney FC behind us, surely Soccer NSW would be very willing to support what we're trying to do?

Just throwing another idea out there - if we weren't able to use the stadium, another good choice would be Mingara. Mariners obviously have an established relationship there, and it would be the perfect spot for their meet and greet. I wouldn;t mind being called the Mingers Marinators for the day.

instead of NSW fed hows about the FFA if we told them of the idea they could help out with everything from insurance matters, strips as per WCC from RBK? marketing and media coverage ........
Just a thought as its in their intrest to have opposing supporters playing a 'friendly game' fpr charity
Cant see why they wouldnt support and help out the idea
