Bloody hell, publicity, contracts - I thought this was a friendly game. yeah its great. on these forums you only have to suggest a picnic and next thing you're building a restaurant. we got some movers and shakers here! Hey WT, don't you know?....thats how the 'Big Day Out' started....someone said to Mick "why don't we have a few mates over, get a couple of guitars out and have a bit of a bash?....!" Next thing you know....there's 10's of thousands 'gettin into it' !!!

Mingara is a slight problem in that we'd have to close the athletics centre to do it (or would we?) and they wouldn't be so keen on loosing a day of entry fees.

When and where guys, should run a raffle on the day say for either a carton of beer or meat tray. Maybe something for the kids, like a kicking competition with a gold coin donation for an entry fee. Sausage sizzle with all profits going to the charity. could be awesome. Mariners down there signing authographs, to draw supporters down there.

definitely guest referees. From past experience, to qualify for player insurance, they usually insist on a qualified referee from the Refs Association. They are usually keen to do it, as it is enjoyable fitness training for them. Make contact with the Ref's through their fixtures person. While it is probably possible to just bung in anyone as a ref, I think what we are proposing here is a high profile event, so best to do it right. Yeah cause we dont want any flares thrown at us by their fans.

If you have to already play in a league I'm out I'd be willing to pay extra personally to cover that. I'll probably sound naive but surely it cant cost THAT much/be a huge hassle to get insured to run around for one game. I dont know anything about the Rowdies tournament, but as far as what this match is, if we managed to get both the Mariners and Sydney FC behind us, surely Soccer NSW would be very willing to support what we're trying to do? Don't sweat it guys. I dove back into the records. Special Competition insurance for players NOT registered for a local Club was a massive $11 per player. Registered players are likely to incur no cost. That was a few years ago now though. The biggest hassle was getting NNSWSF approval (they tried to ban the games). To get around them we found a registered Club that was prepared to sanction the comp under their name. The biggest cost was the referees and assistant referees. The stadium was donated by the Newcastle Breakers (that's the sort of Club it was - RIP) So it should be simple, provided sane people are involved!

$11 - better start saving! Good thing I get paid on the 14th.
It'd be great if we could link it with a fans day so we could get more CAAAAAAASH (always wanted to do that) for the charity. What charity are we looking at doing it for, I've always had a soft spot for the Central Coast Suicide Prevention Network.

That's good - huge issue on the coast - it's a cause I'm very close to and fairly involved in. I think most of us will know the stats invloved so I won't get into it here. But I think that's the way we should be heading, see what Sydney think.

Sydney are by no means opposed to the youth suicide cause. It's a relevant local issue here.
I told them they can choose the charity when they host it next year.

That's a good idea WT, letting the hosts pick the charity. On that we can hardly call it the Marinators charity shield, the East Coast Charity Shield Maybe.

We started it, we organised it, we're playing in it, we're gonna win it, and our name shits on all 50 names they've come up with put together. We can name the bloody thing after ourselves! For this year at least

For this year at least Hey, lets not lose sight of the fact that this is something the Marinators started! It IS the 'Marinators Charity Shield' It will ALWAYS be the 'Marinators Charity Shield' no matter who we have as opposition or where it is held in the future! I chose Syd FC because of the 'friendly rivalry' and banter we had with them during the CWC and I thnk they are running with it in the true spirit I thought they would, so it would seem we are 'on the same page' . If they want to have the venue and choose the charity next year, thats cool, but it will still be the 'Marinator Charity Shield'! It could easily be other opposition in years to come, but I'm happy to have syd fc be the opposition each year, it doesn't really matter. What matters is that we have the match each year, raise money for charity and show the rest of the population (especially those 'family fans' who are maybe put off attending a football match due to past bad publicity) that the 'new breed' of supporter and the 'A League' is here and its ok to bring the family!!! so there

Right-o sorry for trying to please everyone. I wasn't disagreing with the idea of the idea of calling it the Marinators Charity Shield, just if it was always Syd they may not like it. Just make sure that it is spelt right on the trophy.
For another matter. When we win, where do we keep the trophy?
