Just had another cracking marinator experience. Went down to Wyoming's Alan Davidson oval for a kick to see if my old boots still fit, decided to wear the original Marinators tshirt just to fly the flag.
Met up with a few U14's who were having a kick before training and had some shots with them.
They all recognised the shirt and one of them was in the front of Bay 16 for the games. He started singing Celery ;D
Talked some soccer with them and told them about the upcoming charity shield, they love the idea of us getting stuck into the Sydney boys! If we can get the proper word out we can get so many people there!
Oh and while my shooting is rather rusty, my boots fit!

It's more to do with having the three games here Ned. We turned on the support and did it well. People recognise that. As seen by this extract from a Beauchamp interview at the clubs official site
"q. One of the great mysteries of the old NSL was how Parramatta Power were unable to draw crowds to Parramatta Stadium, now, at the Mariners, the support has been fantastic early on, how do you compare the support on the coast against what you experienced at Parramatta?
MB: To be honest, it doesn’t really compare. Even in our Grand Final at Parramatta Power, it was up there, but nothing compared to the crowd behind the goals – the Marinators – it was a buzz when you got out there, you could actually here them screaming and cheering for you and every good tackle or good pass the crowd went up. It’s definitely a change for the good, it’s just a buzz to be out there, the crowd definitely makes a difference."
After you have a few games and the Cove puts on a good show it'll be easier. If you build it they will come. You have 10 times the potential fanbase as us remember, so if we fill the stadium it means 10% of our population is in it. Give it time.

Get real Fish! ;D Goulburn has more activity on a Saturday night than downtown Gosford. But that's it's charm. Don't get sucked into a pissing contest with Bling City - you'll lose - much to their delight.

OK Celery. Gosford: train station with some banks near it. But the central coast is big. It's big enough for an A-League team isn't it

See you guys have the luxury of being in a small country town, so every1 knows about you...its fukin impossible to spread the word in sydney Oh bitch, bitch, bitch. FOUR MILLION PEOPLE!! At least one of them knows about you, I know plenty of Sydney FC fans, why don't you tell them! Everyone knows we exist because we know what we are doing, as opposed to Sydney that has shit fights with eachother (while being the best of the rest). Your team won, they should have the most support And as a member of the council - Gosford is a CITY

Seriously, how easy has it been for you guys to get the news around the coast? Im not saying you havent been brilliant, i admire what you've done, im just saying its been easy for you guys to spread the word...hopefully we'll have the same when we start getting home games

The town still wants NRL and any RL carrot that is dangled will distract them what you saw at the CWQs was just the tip.

things like getting in the local papers (sydney has how many 'local' papers?) we only have 2! getting a small group of marinators to go to the local ice hockey game, and mick and funky getting the gig on the local community radio stn, and god knows how many phone calls mick has made to various media outlets and ph interviews WT has donefor gods sake!.... yeh Ned, piece of cake easy mate! no effort at all.
and good idea to wait till the season starts son, its not like your team had say... won the Australian leg of the CWC against all the other A-league teams or ... Defeated the entire Oceania group of nations, or.... perhaps representing Australia in Japan against the likes of Liverpool etc.or... have players in the socceroos vs one of the biggest football teams of all time, nah, nothing to report there.

You also have to look at what is easy and what is hard.
The HARD part has been all the individual efforts and sacrifices that Lou touched on. Sydney haven't come near the hard part.
The EASY part of spreading the word to the people of the coast was, say, having a name!
So I'm not totally disagreeing when he says it was easy, some of it was. You couldn't even get past that hurdle though.
Now that you have finally done the EASY part(although I'd think about upgrading to Cove-inators just to add some interest) you can think about doing the HARD part.

Ned, sorry you are right it will never be easy for you. 1) Sydney will be expected to win, it will be no big deal if they do. Look at the interest in the winners so far (ho hum.) If they don't win, shit will be trumps. 2) The established football fans following the Mariners are refugees from Spirit and The Breakers. They have no team to follow any more and will be rusted on from the word go. Sydney still has to deal with fans whose first loyalty is to Marconi, Olympic, the Cro's etc. The passion will not be there. 3) Sydney has money but not the heart that the Mariners will have. Ask anyone who watched the last 2 years of Spirit with Lawrie and Fergie managing (even with no money). We will have an exciting and passionate team. 4) Last but not least Sydney does not have Mick, Kevrenor, Lou, Tiger or Froggy (plus others) who have done the work to make it easy. If you want some good advice: Buy some yellow gear. Join the Central Coast Leagues club. Change your name. Make the trip up the expressway. It's easier than going to the football stadium. And have some fun
