Celery, I take your point. I suppose the proof will come with their season average crowds. I hope for the League's sake they average 10k. I'll bet that they are regretting pissing off all of those ex-Breakers fans, who are so important to us Marinators. If hey get an average of 10k they're only just bettering the crowds from the old Breakers days. Only an average of about 15k would I regard it as a success. Reports from people at their match suggest they'll have a much lower crowd next home game. Ex-Newcastle KB United goalkeeper was in the press recently stating he hoped that the Rowdies would turn up in droves to Jets matches. Bad luck for him, as all Rowdies that I know of would never go to a United game and are firmly behind the Mariners. Jets need a new breed of vocal supporters. It seems with their 'Squadron' they have made a start, with a few dedicated people trying to re-create the atmosphere. They have an uphill battle though, in such a stadium. Trying to maintain strong Rugby League links is also a poor strategy in my opinion, and turns away true football supporters. Only just bettering the crowds in the Breakers days? The crowd was usually around 4000 - 5000 in those days, which were great crowds at Breakers Stadium because of the size of the ground. But 10,000 is double that Mr C, i'm not sure how good your maths is. And there were more than 'a few' dedicated people in The Squadron. More like a few hundred. Trying to maintain strong rugby league links?? Sure Con has given some money to the Knights, but he also gave a fair bit of money to keep the Breakers alive for their last season. Who paid for their away trip to Perth? It would have been an embarrasing forfeit if it wasn't for Con.

Crook - There may be 'a few hundred' (sorry after the PSC I doubt the counting in Newcastle) people in the squadron, but only a few will be commited to the cause. How was your training session this week?

Only just bettering the crowds in the Breakers days? The crowd was usually around 4000 - 5000 in those days You are picking the lean Kosmina years. The last year they were nudging 10k, and the older years (KB) they were averaging 8-10K. More like about 50, but can they sing? I don't care if Con gives money to the Knights. I do care when he makes newcastle football a subsiduary of Thuggery League. I care when he plays the team on a thuggery league surface (which apparently cause problems again during the game, with lots of slipping on the painted out Thuggery signs all over the grass.) I care when the great Ray Baartz is not good enough to kick off the match, and they bring in a knuckle dragger like Andrew Johns to do it.

Crook - There may be 'a few hundred' (sorry after the PSC I doubt the counting in Newcastle) people in the squadron, but only a few will be commited to the cause. How was your training session this week? What the f*** does the counting at the PSC have to do with anything? Sure it was a small crowd, but nothing was over or undertstated. Were you at the PSC game?? Didn't think so. I have been to both a Mariners game and a NUFC game and I am in a position to compare the numbers of the 2 supporters groups. Yes, The Marinators are a tad larger, but there was easily 150 - 200 people in the Squadron on Friday night, maybe even more. I'd estimate there was about 50 less than what the Marinators had in the WCC game. What training session are you going on about? Yes, the crowds in the KB years were great for a few seasons, but they didnt have thuggery league to contend with. Here are the attendences for the Breakers final, and most successful season: 6023 6045 4473 4171 5027 4127 6816 6907 Great win vs Olympic that day with only 10 men for half the game 4448 7674 6978 7014 vs Gippsland, I think we went top of the table that night? 4591 3831 4781 5735 5709 So the highest attendence was 7674. Nudging 10,000 were we? Average attendence for the season was 5550. Nudging 10,000 were we? Now who has a counting problem?

Newcastle Uknighted - Creative Counting 101 Maybe time paints things with a rosy glow. It seemed the Breakers had huge vocal crowds and tons of atmosphere, while Uknighted always appear to have the atmosphere equivalent of a bowls match. I think you said it - the smaller boutique stadium vs an empty cavern.

I've said all along that I prefer Breakers Stadium.
Are you the course co-ordinator of Creative Counting 101? Coz you're pretty damn good at it.
You claimed that we were getting 10,000 in the Breakers days and you were wrong.
We had 13,000 on Friday night and 17,000 a few seasons back.
You claimed there were 50 people in the squadron and you were wrong.
You're comments are based from what you have seen on TV, and thats hardly a way to make a good opinion.
You are wrong, and you are embarrasing yourself.
End of.

I think you'll find a few Mariners come to our forum as well mate.
I'm happy to post nice things (I usually do), but when Mr C says such ludicrous things about our club I just have to say something.

I go onto the Newcastle form, and will say Crook is a nice guy a fair whack of the time. But at the same time he does get very fired up and baits easily.
Crook: The training session thing is a bit of a joke about your talks with the club and one of their recomendations

This isn't the best photo of The Squadron, but it still gives you an idea of what The Squadron is. Yeah, a bunch of teenagers waving plastic dildos and looking extremely happy about it.

How old were you when you started the Rowdies? Late teens or early 20s I believe you were.
5 years old, 10, 18, 30, 65, 234. I don't care how old someone is, if they are willing to sing and have fun at the game then good on them.
Thanks for that compliment omni, i try to be nice as much as possible. But i must admit i do take the bait pretty easily if someone says something bad about something I believe in.

Were the chants any good, can't say I heard much on Fox. Looks fairly quiet apart from the boof sticks.

Nah the chants werent too original. Just the typical old football chants.
I'm not sure if Fox didnt place their microphones in the right place or what, but it was fairly loud. Not as loud as the Marinators, and definitely not as loud as The Cove today (great effort Sydney!)

I'm sure Bay 16 will be buzzing on Sunday - one of the problems is we don't have a roof so the sound doesn't carry as much

Saw the orange version in the crowds at the Boar game. I guess it won't B long B 4 the Yellow one is available for us. Personally I'd prefer a blow-up 'sword', one with a curve in it - little cup thingy that protects a Marinators hand in dueling with one another. Be a bit more original. Maybe They(FC) or Us should try and source some, would have to be cheap as chip's if made in China/Korea.
Can hear a "One for All, and All for One - and something maybe involving the word bum" song being thought up.
