also Mick, are the details for this match on the cove forum? darren from the cove has been given the details and is organising stuff from his end he hasn't posted on the forum becaused he would get 200 people wanting to play he said he has a squad I'll be posting a thread very soon. We've selected a squad. I just need to check one thing- Are we able to bring a crowd? (I noticed the event was a members-only type thing)

We also want to bring some media with us (we are the ultimate media whores). A photographer or 3, and a journo or 2.
Also - seeing as this will hopefully be a yearly event (and if not - I'm sure we'll arrange to play eachother whenever possible) - the pub which sponsors SFCU-Unofficial has offered to donate a trophy/shield/cup. Is that cool with you guys? (I don't remember a trophy last year???)
And last season the players paid (from memory) $10 each, which went to (from memory) the Johnny Warren Foundation. Are there similar plans this year?

Yeah a trophy would be great. I think it was in the pipeline last year from memory but never materialised.
The other issues have been forwarded to the Mariners so we'll get back to you asap.

OK some answers are in.
Our fans day this year is actually a member's only picnic so you (and our guys and gals who aren't club members) won't be allowed in willy-nilly. But that event 'officially' ends at 1pm and the teams will be allowed into the dressing rooms to prepare for the 1:30pm k/o. Fans of both teams will also then be allowed into the field area in readiness to watch the match.
The club just ask that the Cove be wary that it is a member's day (very family orientated up here) when entering and taking up a pozzy and to behave in the right spirit. Personally I think this is reasonable but also that a bit of noise, within reason, to signal your arrival would be great to attract some attention to the game for the members who may be considering leaving around then.
Your media is more than welcome but they at least want to know who it will be so PM me if need be once you have confirmation of who you are bringing.
They won't essentialy be publicly promoting the day or the match or subsequently any charity angle, but we are free to do what we want in this area. Perhaps the other senior Marinators would like to discuss this first before we make anything official. Everyone chucking in a tenner for the JWF or something long those lines sounds viable though.
Mingara have been notified that there may be a few dozen Cove-ites coming in for lunch/beer before/after the game so feel free to set yourselves up in there. I know there was a sore loser related mix-up last time regarding a combined beer session afterwards last year but having spoken to most of our players that was regretable and we'll be endeavouring to join you in there afterwards if possible.
In terms of uniform we are getting some shirts made up and going pretty casual on the rest of the strip so do as you please in this sense as long as you're wearing blue tops obviously. We're juggling our squad but we'll have around 17-18 if you wanted an indication. Not sure about the specifics of the match length and format yet (eg halves or quarters etc).
Anything else you need just fire away.

Any suggestions for a name for the Cup/Shield/Trophy? So that we can get it engraved etc etc

I'd like to see it as the 'Johnny Warren memorial trophy' in honour of the man who always said that what is happening now (on a pro level and also on a 'fans' level) needed to happen.
I was organising this trophy with Grant for last year, but unfortunately got called to Adelaide and wasn't able to see it through. Great idea though, lets get it done benw! If you need any help, just give me a yell.

OK - we were thinking "The Don Parkes Trophy/Cup/Shield"
JW is good too ... but there is already a J W Cup, and I think it might be more difficult to get permission to use his name. And JW gets plenty of lovin' already.

I really like the Don Parkes Trophy/Cup/Shield. For a fans match, a famous fan would be appropriate. They come no bigger than our Donny.

Yeah it seems apt to us too.
If someone can check if it's all cool to use his name - we can get the trophy made.

Nice, Donny Parkes will be very proud I'm sure. He'll be in the Kendall bar on Saturday, I'll have a chat to him. Should be cool.
