Plus I've spent a fortune on signage, jerseys and banners. If there is a name change i want my money back Charles CCLC

in marketing terms the name has good branding, fun and relaxed, and easily connected to the mariners a bit daggy but who cares as we don't take ourselves as seriously as other supporter groups *cough*Melbourne'sBWB*cough*

i love the name, its original, just like the concept of a new national football comp (the a-league). and i do like the idea of naming BAY 16. if it's comedy you want, we could name it "the poop deck".

Poop Deck indeed. We'd need to get a banner made up to attach to the camera stand above the current Marinators banner.

Bay 16 is what it is, Bay 16. K.I.S.S Keep it simple, straightforward. The bay will become synonymous with vocal support of the Mariners, just like at various cricket grounds around the country ( I don't know which particular bay's are the 'legendary' ones as I'm not a fan of cricket) but I do know that if you're wanting a great day at the cricket 'they're' the Bay's to try and get tickets for. Start changing names and numbers of various things and your bound to go un-noticed as well as lose any history/culture that you develop.

I like your plan Rowdy. Maybe in years to come Bay 16 will be like the old bay 13 at the MCG. I was doing the MCG tour 2 weeks ago, and the first question asked was "Where was bay 13?", by an Englishman!!!
If we can gain that kind of noteriety, it can't be an entirely bad thing (unless it's for the dickhead's getting kicked out part, then some changes will be needed).

sorry to interupt on here, but going back to original start of thread, about the CSE . etc. i was talking to a person today whose son is in the squadron and she was saying that in melbourne the other night the whole of the newcastle supporters that were down there had to get a police escort out of grounds. - aparrently they were hassled by the tard supporters so hard and were threatened quite seriously - i don't know if this is the norm for games now and what turns young geeks into heros with all these other people around them, but certainly the a-league wasn't started for this crap to be here.
i still remember seeing tony pezzano being chased by a spectator from sydney city at pratten park with the corner flag in his hand ready to beat him with it.
so - just putting this out there

Yeah, Melbourne seem to be famous for that sort of behaviour.
It's a shame the FFA aren't taking a hard line against such hooliganism......'sort it out or you'll play behind closed doors' sort of thing.
The fact that they've got a reputation implies they're not overly interested in self regulating....although with that many people at a game perhaps there isn't really anything the main supporters can really do and escorting away fans out of the stadium is all they can do?

but im sure the spirit of enjoyment in actually going to watch football is more important up here as in no one really wants to punch on after game. but would be hard to let bling supporters out first or last. what is crowd prediction - i heard last nite that at least 15k had gone already

Its the norm in Melbourne.
I think its good that security and the police are switched on to problems that could arise.

All this crap has sadly surfaced on the front page of tomorrow's express.
Just what we don't need with photos of riot police getting prepared

If you think this thread is must read wait until you get a copy of tomorrow's express advocate.
Headline "Fighting talk". Apparently there is going to be a big fight at the game on Sunday.
It goes along with the large sized quote "Hey Smiddy...we hav a big one planned for the scum sydney fc on the 3rd... we hav the fight planned".
No-where are the Marinators mentioned, but this can't be good publicity.
DJ was right when he said a lot of the authorities read this forum. There will be riot police at the game.
I'll try and get a link to the article if its on the net somewhere.

and the words 'get f***ed' immediately come to mind.
we normally get a pretty good run with the CCEA, but i don't get what the story is here.
should probably reserve judgement til i get a chance to read the story, but i will happily say this much: i know diddly squat about some supposed fight for sunday, and i'm sure taht the rest of the forum is the same.
i'd be surprised if there's anybody at all who's organising anything, and i'd be very, very surprised if any of the cove boys know anything about it.
strikes me as the work of (completely speculating here) a bored journo looking for something to run who has browsed across a myspace page by a lone 15yo loon with a recently hired copy of green street and turned into a story, if it hasn't been made up completely.
i've no doubt that there's set to be people thrown out of the ground on sunday, no different from any other sporting event and certainly to a lesser degree than what will be happening at the cricket in adelaide on the same day.
long story short - reeks of a complete beat up.
