I organized a knit-off with sydney FC. Thats what the fuss is about. My apologies, it just got out of control before I could stop it... Oh and I wasn't disparaging the name at all, i love the name and i think it suits us perfectly, it was just I had never thought of it from an outside angle and when the missus bought it up it it was an '...oh yeah...' moment. It is completely synonymous with yellow, bay 16 and of course the mariners, which is how it should be. Beer also comes to mind. As for some whack idea of naming the bay? it is named. Its called The Bay. Bay 16. Personally I think it already has that sort of notoiriety to it, all the other teams' fans' know what its about, but i'll be the first to admit i've got no idea where any other team sits in thier stadium. The simpleness of Bay 16 is what it's all about. Love it. Bring on sunday. Oh the violence thing. Just an idea here, but could/should someone perhaps send the Advocate a letter in response to this article? Something stating the Marinators as a supporters group do not condone violence in any way, each and every member is accountable for not only thier actions but the image of the bay and none want that image tarnished etc. Just perhaps an idea to nip this violence thing in the butt, as well as getting some free publicity...

I think that a few leeters to the editor could do some good work. Read it on the paper today. Quite alot of hype if it was just from the original myspace message. Was there more things I missed. If not as far as has been pointed to me by that group, it was just one guy. He must be pretty stoked single handedly moving to the front page, and increasing police presence. But not a good thing for the club. I think A number of letters from Marinators would help to soothe the problem. Perhaps a few of the more Literate Ladies and Gentlemen will lend a bit of their time to this.

One would have thought they would have had the decency to do a bit of homework and check the validity of the shit before putting it to press

Express Advocate trying to drum up a riot then? Now that its in the paper the chances of something happening have probably increased slightly to just above f*** all. (when the dickheads read it and think - hey, thats a good idea)
As for the riot police, as far as I know they are at the games anyway so this is nothing new.
Just some hack "journalist" writing shit, shit and more shit.

The sad thing is that this will probably get picked up by another part of Uncle Ruperts empire that hates the game and has an NRL agenda.
Which particualr low life hack (who couldnt get a real reporters job) actually wrote this shite?? Is it the same one who stuck the knife in earlier in the season?
Cancel their sponsorship, send back the money and deny the pricks access to the club/players/ground. Anyone got the editors email address they can post so we can organise a campaign against him/her?
I think the Mariners brand has developed to the point where it can live without these people. Switch the advertising budget to the Sun instead

Article linkFighting talk 30Nov06 Event manager Kathy Robinson and managing director Monique Marks discuss security with police. POLICE have stepped in to head off a possible brawl between rival fans at Sunday's A-League soccer match between Central Coast Mariners and Sydney FC. The riot squad will be on stand-by after postings appeared on internet chat rooms calling for people to come to Bluetongue Stadium ready for a fight. The threats were allegedly made by a small group of fans who call themselves the Central Coast Stadium Elite. But the group has denied involvement. It said the trouble came from a former member who had been ejected from the Elite. More than 1500 Sydney fans, known as The Cove, are expected to attend the match. The last time the teams played, on October 13, six people were ejected after fans clashed. Brisbane Water crime manager Chief-Insp Darren Bennett said police would act quickly to quell any anti-social behaviour. ``We encourage people to support their teams with enthusiasm but we don't want a small contingent trying to start something.'' Stadium managing director Monique Marks said she was confident there would be no trouble. ``It's going to be a great family atmosphere,'' she said. *********************** it's worth noting a few things - * they're not riot police. overalls are a different matter to shields, helmets and truncheons * CCSE? who? * 1500 cove-ites, but any hools? not likely. there's sure to be a few dickheads, but whatever... like that doesn't happen at the pub of a saturday night... last time, in a crowd of over 11k, 6 people were ejected. lets think about the arithmetic there. even if we assumed (for the sake of making a point) that only one in ten of those people would otherwise be in a pub of a friday night if they weren't at the game, that'd be 1100 people, and i would be very very surprised if out of 1100 atrons of pubs on any given friday night only 6 were thrown out. i'm even understating the case there - quite likely a lot more than 1100 of that crowd would have been elsewhere, making the point even starker: mariners games are safer places to be than a regular pub at the same time. full stop, end of story.

The Marinators are not involved in this.
Send letters in on the Marinators behalf will just link us to the trouble.
By all means send a letter in but do not use the marinators name.

It's a shame this has been such a beat up (excuse the pun). For a completely different perspective about fans mingling and good-natured banter - read this (from smh.com.au) FLOG - Round 15 previewSee you at the Kendall!

lou macari did a piece for nbn tonight - really positive
apparently the express duped the stadium into the story and said the photo was about "how everyone is working together for the weekend"
disgraceful journalism and very unethical

I'm putting a few words together for a letter to the editor because we are certainly not what the express would like to think we are and that reflects badly on me and my family. They journalists need to realise that their writing reflects on us and our team. Our team is about community, family and all good things on the Coast and to have someone just beat up a story is not on. We work hard to ensure our club and fans have a good reputation. Don't get mum mad!!!!!!!!!!!

Just fired this off to the Advocate...
To the Editor,
What purpose did Richard Noone hope to serve when he typed up the "Fighting Talk" article printed on Friday Dec 1st? If he followed up with his research he would have also printed the fact that according to all sources the situation has been completely defused, and at this present time there is absolutely nothing to indicate any form of planned fight between supporters groups. The article sends a message to everyone that violence is almost unavoidable this Sunday, when in fact the Mariners and Sydney FC have a very healthy respect for one another, both on and off the field, with no history of violent clashes between the clubs. At this stage of the season, with the Mariners having a strong run of home games, its obvious that the Mariners would want as many fans as possible coming to Bluetongue stadium and getting behind the boys as they make a run for the finals. Now in the top 4, its assured that more and more people will be making the journey to the ground, but they will be discouraged if the Advocate continues to print articles that only serve to destroy the image of the game, to disrepute the good name the supporters have made for themselves, and reduce the number of potential fans the Mariners could have.
Kind Regards,
Rick.

And tell them about the yearly charity match between Dinamo Marinators & Lokomotiv Cove, with the trophy being named after Don Parkes.

its too late now - the dammage has already been done. i think we can now expect the attendance to be down, alot of families with kids will probly think twice before commin to the game now - all because of some dickhead reporter.
in addition to this we are now going to get a bunch of litle wana-be thugs show up to the game looking for a fight. hopefully they will get kicked out if they try to start anything. the bad thing would be if the started shit and they were in bay16 when they did it - then the marinators would cop heaps of shit.
