Why telstra can't spend a bit of money...that $10 million bonus to that foreigner who was out here for 12 months and did not much maybe...and get decent broadband access to everyone. We are so far behind the rest of the world in this area its rediculous. IU have friends in the US who have T1s at home and at work...I asked Telstra about that at Ag-quip. T1s are available only to businesses in the metro areas and it costs a fortune even then...

exactly Last Wednesday The Australian carried a story how the major centres of the CBD, North Sydney, Parramatta, Liverpool, Wollongong, Newcastle and GOSFORD will be getting a wireless network coverage for laptops. A major state government announcement that would econmically help a town centre that is currently struggling. Where do I find this information on the Express - a small article hidden around page eight. That by itself pisses me off...they cant get broadband at all in some places out here. One of the guys I works with lives 20 minutes outside the town boundary and he's been told by Telstra that he cant get broadband...tough luck...The government is about as consistent as Mark Shields. Pack of muppets the lot. I don't give a f u c k about broadband. 7 posts (modified: make that 8, CH just posted another ffs), all in a row, all on broadband and all because Mick happened to type the words 'wireless network' in his post, which by the way was about how useless the Express Advocate was for writing a bogus article on football and the possibility of violence. URGENT MUST RE-READ THREAD TITLE, is that a possibility? People posting shite that has nothing to do with a thread, is really making this forum tiresome to read and use Sure some topics go 'off-thread' a little, but too many times it happens and they go "right-off thread" and I've noticed lately that Kevrenor has had to re-direct threads to the appropriate place and Mick himself even locked a thread. As you say Country Hick, "That by itself pisses me off"

The maybe split the off topic posts into their own thread?
I respond to the posts I read that day. To be honest I dont remember what the thread was about originally. Maybe you dont give a rats about broadband. Lucky for you. Thats your opinion and your entitled to it, as Im entitled to mine...the beauty of our country. The mods and admin run the board and will do so as they see fit, its not a democracy here, its a dictatorship. (Admins and mods, I am not in anyway having a go at the way you guys run this place, just pointing out that by its nature a forum is a dictatorship)
I dunno if it's me in particular you're having a go at in this instance, and I want to make it clear I am NOT having a go at you at all. Im just putting it forth in reply to your post, which happens to be the one i read today.

The maybe split the off topic posts into their own thread? The n split "off-topic posts" into where? to what thread? That would have to be the "Bitchin about Broadband" thread wouldn't it? Problem is someone would have to start it before you could even entertain the thought of 'splitting the off-topic posts' into it. The whole point here is to NOT have the need to do this. I respond to the posts I read that day. To be honest I dont remember what the thread was about originally. Now it's all starting to make sense. I'll type it again; URGENT MUST RE-READ THREAD TITLE and perhaps have some insight into what it's about if the title is a little un-clear as to it's content. I really don't think Mick was implying 'let's all talk about how f***ed broadband is', he mentioned it as an alternative for the Express to report upon if it was really that slow of a new's day rather than steep to low and 'make shit up' about possible footbal violence. And far as all that shit about a dictatorship. wtf

The construct for this forum maybe a bit different to ones I normally use...which are phpbb..I have no idea what this one is...but the mods/admins can split posts into a separate topic...maybe a function not available on this type of board.
And no maybe he wasn't intending to start that as a topic, but thats what he posted thats I replied to. I have actually read through the whole thread and replied to it on topic.
As for the bit about dictatorship...nevermind...it's no biggie.

PHEW! Glad I read all that!
Back on topic, the advocate printed two letters today, both condemning the advocate for the article Fighting Talk. One from a mariners fan, and one from a covite i think. Pretty balsy to print letters condemning yourself in your own paper.
No news about an apology or anything though, but its good to see that the public will see another side of the story, especially after a marinator/ccse/cove conflict free game.

Let's take a long close look at this ridiculous thread. It should surely be titled "URGENT THE SKY IS FALLING IN" We might blame the Express Advocate for the article but without this thread that drew everyone's attention to the original rumour on a MySpace site, who would have known or cared about it? I think the original posting, and those that gave it any credence, are as much to blame for stoking the fire as the idiot who was supposed to be inciting violence.
Why didn't everyone take the advice of Ursus and ignore it?

However we have known for some time that the police along with the Stadium and club (and Uncle Tom Cobly and all) monitor these type of forums. My complaint is that the police did not use the 'intelligence' available about the 'threat' to have a more measured response and thought through risk assessment (perhaps in consultation with the Marinators and Cove). I didn't appreciate seeing my tax dollars paying for several vans of riot police to be at Maccas West Gosford after the game. They should have been at home all night with a beer watching FOX. I didn't appreciate hearing about the treatment of some fans, esp. the Cover who was allegedly assaulted. Please be careful what is posted here. Moderators may need to 'delete' threads that are going down the wrong path in future in the interest of us all.

Did they print a small "editors comment" after them rebutting whatever the letters said? And out of curiosity, what did they say?

A Sydney fan wrote in and noted the article was a load of "muckraking" (his words) garbage, and then some random Coastie fellow who took his kids along criticised the Advocate for printing and condoning such fear mongering rubbish, and he then commented on how much fun both he and his kids had, and thanked both sets of spectators and the stadium officials for making the day so enjoyable for him and his kids.

In terms of their 'ballsy-ness', most weeks the Express has at least one Letter that disagrees with one of their stories to a certain degree. This week with two letters blasting their front page article was obviously the biggest degree ever though.

Moderators may need to 'delete' threads that are going down the wrong path in future in the interest of us all. I feel the Police *could* have handled this matter better by going to the source of the CCSE rubbish and confronting the little kiddies the day BEFORE the match. They had enough information to warrant a proper investigation officially, given that alleged threats were made.If the Police didn't believe that the alleged threats that were made were serious enough, how in the hell did they get approval from the Commisioner to bring in Riot/Counter Terrorist Police? I believe it is possible to identify people thru Forums and such, and a knock on their doors the day before would have put enough wind up 'em to keep them well away from Bluetongue. Watching where these CCSE went after their warning and who they contacted would have also widened the circle of associates they have and enable more intell to be gathered for future use. No need for Riot Police, no need for Front Page sensationalist journalism, just discreet intelligence gathering and low profile monitoring.. Kevrenor, are you in a position to tell us if the Police contacted you or other Mods about the CCSE, or if not, would you consider approaching them and complaining that they didn't use the resource they have available to them and let the media frighten people away from the Sydney match? Given that there are some media types within the Marinators, is there a chance that the view could be put publicly that the Police chose to go the way of Riot Police police rather than conduct discreet investigations and intel gathering and monitoring of suspicious persons?
