How many here (hopefully the answer is 'everyone') has heard "The Beatles - All Together Now"??. An insanely infectious tune that _surely_ we could attach some words to and just let rip with a chant that goes on for 5 minutes at a time?? Ideas?? to this tune

Brilliat! I love it. I think the 'all together now' should stay, as 'the call'. With the 'response' being 'Up the mariners'. I think it will get more slowly joining in as they realise its going to keep going for a while.
Thats one of our problems I think with people not joining in. A lot of chants don't go for long enough for people to mentally learn what we're singing and then join in once they are confident they have memorised what's being sung.

instead of just the 'leaders', should it be one side of the bay, or better yet, a whole other bay singing the call and then the other singing the response?

I think get everyone just doing it for now. Once we all feel comfortable with it, then we can start choreographing and fine tuning. Hard enough to get everyone to learn the tune and words. Need to keep it as simple as possible for now

- I agree, the "colours" verse would just be a mess.
If nothing else gets suggested, maybe repeat the start? - more people might join in the second time if they pick it up.
- Do the words "bompa bom" get sung, or just belted on the drums? and/or clapped-along-with?
- Also would the chorus make more sense if it was "up the mariners" sung by all, followed by a quieter "(altogether now)"?
i.e. UP THE MARINERS (altogether now) UP THE MARINERS! (altogether now)...etc.

Instead of "Black white green red Come on put this game to bed Pink brown yellow orange and blue In yellow" We could have "Blue, shite, orange, red (thats the colours of the teams we play guys ) Come on put this game to bed All the other teams wish they were....In yellow"

new suggestion for the colours verse is good, nice work jeff. click on the link - bompa bom is sung, but i think drums/clapping would work just as well (and give the voices a rest!) last suggestion sounds fine too

I honestly think anything with the word "c**t" in it, shouldn't be sworn let alone sung and/or chanted in Bay 16 at all. That would just leave us stooping to the level of Scum.

I'm a Leeds fan. When ever we get a corner ....its a short sharp chant of "LEEDS, LEEDS,LEEDS...7 times with the fist pumping the air at the same time. Its a bit Zulu like but very effective. I wonder if someone could adapt that. I was gonna suggest Leeds' "Champions of Europe" song but the new Yellow Army/Mariners chant is similar. Also Birmingham City have a fantastic song, called something like "Keep right on till the end of the road". I've only been to a couple of games against Brum but it makes the hair stand on end when they get into it.

The chant of "Mariners - clap, clap, clap" has been supported (or at least tolerated) so far because it is capable of involving a lot of the stadium outside of the bays. Probably due to its simplicity and repetitiveness. Now it seems to have caught on quite well, and doesn't always rely on the encouragement of the Marinators to get it going.
Is it time that some more simple chants were thrown around, with the vision of finding an alternative to "clap-clap-clap" for involving the rest of the stadium?
IMO - and this is a matter of personal taste - it sounds more like a primary school sports carnival than a football match. You know when you hear a stadium in song, it's unmistakably football; not the sydney 2000 olympics (aussie aussie aussie, etc)?
Thought of this on sunday when "come on you Yellow" was quite clearly echoing around the ground. Sounded so much more original and inspiring, then i thought, How simple is that? Why couldn't 20,000 be singing that at the first sellout?
If it won't catch on because it's too many words to learn, maybe we should think of a way to make "Mariners" sound more football-esque than ol' 3-clap does. eg. find a characteristic melody to sing it to like they do in "Liiiiiii-ver-pooooool"
Just an idea; 'cause it appears in the stands like nothing's catching on other than 3-clap, and Marinating's all about showing the sports fans the atmosphere that football can provide over any alternate sports.

Maybe say "Mar-in-ers, Mar-in-ers" to the tune of "come on yellow". If you just dont extend the end like yell-owwwww it may work??
---------------------------------------------------------------
Another chant idea that i thought of quickly. The lyrics admititly are not the best but i thought the tune is easy to catch onto and i'm sure everyone has sung this song at a dodgy disco or new years party.
To the tune of Agadoo
Maaariners-ers-ers Come on up and score a goal Maaariners-ers-ers Come right up and score a goal Down the left, down the right, cross it in and hit the net. Come on mariners come on mariners, put the ball in the back of the net.
Possibly even point to the left and right when it says. A single clap when you say the ers bit too would sound better
thoughts??
