For those of you who put their name down at the inagural Marinators Club meeting expressing an interest in 'marketing the Marinators' (and those who weren't there but are interested in having some input into the marketing of the Marinators) please send me a private message or make your interest known here and we will get together for a brainstorming session very soon. I have some really exciting ideas and I'm also keen to pick your brains and get your input! (500 here we come! )

supporter groups only 'marketing' should be active support not everyone gets that they can just rock on in and get involved. not everyone knows about the kendall pre-match. not everyone knows the songs and stuff like that. not everyone comes on here and reads about what we're doing week to week. so we need to get the message out one way or another. if you don't like the phrase 'marketing the marinators brand' that's fine, call it something else, but it's not unique to the marinators. fanzines are a marketing tool. websites are a marketing tool. supporter group scarves are a marketing tool. if we can work out new ways of telling people about the marinators and getting them involved, we will keep getting bigger and louder and stronger. as jeff was saying, everyone's welcome to put forward ideas -what do you think we could do to boost our numbers and keep giving better support to the team?

if we adopt a mindset of people will join us then we will never grow, sometimes people need to be shown the way - not pushing them into it just guiding those with a genuine interest... the things dibo mentioned are the best tools for achieving this.

Seems like a sort of marketing to me

active support is not marketing it is the end result from marketing So you dont consider people seeing a group of fans actively supporting there team and think to theirselves that they want to be a part of that? Seems like a sort of marketing to me yes, but active support doesn't magically appear and the above comment is very simplistic melbourne's bwb has a big, active support but there are many who do not want to join them for a variety of reasons and many who do for different reasons just because it is there doesn't mean will just rock up and be part of the group

yeah and people find it intimidating joining supporter groups, so you need to make them feel as welcome as possible... it would be nice if it were that simple but its not

Sign me up!!
I don't think marketing is a dirty word. Like Northernspirit said, you gotta invite participation by making others feel welcome.
Little point doing good things for your community if you keep it to yourself.

I think alot has been going on out of the stands this year/off season. But i will be hoping come the sydney match attention is turned to vocal support, cause the last 2 home encounters have been very ordinary in my opinion. I will assume absenteeism has something to do with it, and certainly was too cold to even clap on the weekend, but we need to be loud and organised, and there has been little organisation for our "Main" activity as a group. Hopefully this is just because of pre-season?

Not only vocal but also try and concentrate on visual aspects aswell we were shite on saturday night, no enthusiasm, no noise, was hard to be bothered after a time. we'd get a song going and it would fall flat. it was a mile short of where we were at last year, but we'll be bigger and better than that once everyone is back in regular season mode. forza, what visual things would you like to see?

I spoke to the stadium 'entertainment director' at the game and he wants to get the whole stadium involved in following/copying the marinators when they start the scarf twirling, "yellow-yeah-yellow" chant and will put the 'words' up on the big screen when that comes back during the proper season! Thats gonna be awesome, also Brett is going to be liasing with him regarding other chants that the whole stadium can get involved with. So rest assured that this kind of thing is happening, but its early days. The reason you've seen plenty of off field organisation is that that is what gets organised pre season and the stadium activities will happen as the season begins. Brett's role of Club Capt will see him organising stuff like this throughout the year so watch out for a bumper year as far as stadium & bay involvement!

Dibo, it all depends on involvement and participation For a decent tifosi to work the whole bay has to be disclipined and all follow instructions. Probaly try a basic one like the streamers which seemed to work well against Adelaide then maybe move up balloons/placards. Another thing i'd like to see is many more standards and custom flags.

I was talking to a couple the other night, and they mentioned that their son sits down the front corner of bay 16, hes 18 so he could join us in the kendall, but he feels like were an exclusive club or something. i dont know why people think this.

That is a comment that I have struck several times over the last couple of years. Hard to get the message thru to some folks that all can participate, as much or as little as they want to. Hopefully those Invitation slips handed out at the semi match got some people thinking.
