Everyone is calling for Leo to be given more than 5 minutes, yet when another limited opportunity player Fergie is rumoure to be given a go it's politics? Dont think so.
Fergie has been training with the boys the whole season, and if he plays it'd be to give them the message that no ones place is assured, as the lack of competition for places is dropping the performance of our bigger names. There's no way he'd be played if he wasnt up to scratch just because he is the assistant coach. If he's training well enough, just like Leo, he should be given a go if things aren't working!
Although I highly doubt he would start Fergie. Where did you read that?

I read it in Football Fever today. I hope I have to eat my own words if he does start and goes well but I just cant see that happening.

We create chances other than from brownie, with all due respect for him he is great player. We need tommy p back. As for Kwasnik, i think he needs some more game time and Im willing to hold my judgement til the end of the season.

I wouldnt worry about Football Fever. But still, if he starts it would be for the best of the team. Fergie only wants whats best for the mariners, there's no glory hunting or politics involved in my opinion.

He will be doing it for his commitment to the team, leading from the front so to speak. Oh dear, did someone say Kevin Muscat was playing for the opposition. This will be interesting.

i think we'll do much better when tommy gets back, now that hutcho has stepped into the striker role, we can play tommy back in the midfield where he can use his talent the best
leo needs more game time
rusty is much better than kwasnik

Dont know much about Leo but he would have to be more fleet of foot than Fergie.

Dont know much about Leo but he would have to be more fleet of foot than Fergie. Fergie's a Defensive MidFielder/Central Defender. Comparing him to Leo is "apples and oranges" "Fleet of Foot?", not only can Fergie dance he easily could be a Stripperrrrr! ;D

Fergie has been training with the boys the whole season, and if he plays it'd be to give them the message that no ones place is assured, Due to injuries, soon everyone who is healthy WILL be assured of playing!! We've got players I never seen on the pitch either at all or during this league season (Mrdja, Boogard, Ogrady). And I cant understand why sign players like Woodruffe or Leo when Lawrie isnt confident in their abilities. I know we are strapped for cash, but we will need to set up a relationship with a state league team so we can loan/borrow players when needed, just as sydney fc is trying to set up with marconi.

Did anyone actually read this on the web site? www.ccmariners.com.au/default.aspx?s=newsdisplay&id=2299&pageid=264Youth to the fore? Rusty didn't make the squad, Leo did not play, Boogs is injured, Osman is a regular anyway, and Kwasie came on late! Bit of a strange report? Players like Rusty and Leo must be getting pissed off seeing people in their positions getting injured and thinking they have a chance now, then Lawrie puts someone out of position to cover the spot you were brought into the club for?

I know Fergie was a great player in his hey day, but Leo must have been pissed to see Fergie get a run on saturday ahead of him. I watched NBN sports report last night, and I'm pretty sure Lawrie said that Fergie WOULD start the match this week against Melbourne.
Has the world gone topsy turvy ?

If that happens then Lawrie has confirmed my thoughts on him as a coach/manager on a game day. Poor. For all the good work he has done with the team to make them the strong unit they are I have to question his ability to pick a team, work tactics and doing substitutions on the main day of his working week.

Fergie is no good u need to give the younger players a go with all these injuries they are the future of the side, from what ive seen of Leo Carle he has the talent to start why keep him on the bench all game go the mariners!!!

i think a bit of squad rotation mightn't be a bad idea. give everyone a bit of a run. i don't think it will hurt to have a fairly flexible line-up that can adapt to injuries as they come, and also it will mean we won't need players to play through injuries on account of the other players being insufficiently match-fit.
