Anybody see the Sun Herald today?
The football 'rumours and funny stories' column mentioned that several A-League clubs are trying to sign David Carney when he's off contract in April. There was a clue that 'he'll be able to make a short drive north for training' Anybody heard anything else about this?

Carney is imo too good for the a-league and will be back in europe for the start of the next seasons

yeah i saw this story as well, and i have to admit as soon as i read it i got a sick feeling in my stomach, I am a Sydney fan after all. I hope he re-signs for Sydney but if not at least an A-League team and the Mariners would be next on my list. Remember though, Newcastle would also be a drive north for Super Dave, now there's a thought that would give both Sydney and CCM nightmares

Scumcastle is just a resort for those who want to stay in Nsw but just arent good enough for Mariners and Bling

Well he wouldn't want to go to the Scum, unless he just wants to see long balls lobbed forward Would be a great signing..but then a case of who to let go

I'd love to see him in a Mariners shirt!
I'm not going to make any predictions as to offseason wheelings and dealings because it's the first one for the a-league and who knows how much movement there will be. The appeal of playing under lawrie may help us attract a few players but we only have a few that we'd want to let go.

Hi Guys
Just joined the forum. I'm a Mariners member and Friday night was the greatest football night of my life after being at the WCQ against Uruguay. I heard a very disturbing rumour during the Melbourne home game a few weeks ago that Tommy is leaving the club. The source is well connected and says he believes it's true. Now I know there's always a lot of false rumours on boards and I pray this is wrong. IMO Tommy is the best player in the competition after Archie Thompson. I've been watching him for years at MK, SU, PG, SO. The guys has the skills and pace that other players can only dream of.
I sincerely hope it's all crap, but Carney does seem a good fit as a replacement. If Tommy goes, I reckon it will be to MV. They need a wide striker.

according to the world game, MV coach is scouting over seas hoping to pic up 4 or 5 big players.
i hope mariners do something similar, or get a player like carney.

True, but there's not a club in the country who wouldn't pick up Tommy in a heart beat.

He'd fit in at Newcastle, a keeper who kicks players and a player who kicks kepers Seriously though he'd be a good signing, but we still have to abide to a 20 man squad limit.

He must have listened to me.
After the Syd game where we lost 5-1, I hung around to meet the Syd players. When Carney finally came around I said "Do us a favour and become a Mariner next year!" He just grinned and walked off.
Ive been saying all year since he scored that goal against us in WCQ Final, he should be our #1 target.
Lets hope their is some truth to the rumour, maybe we could all send him emails to show him he would be welcomed!

Can't see Carney heading to the Mariners - too much money! Would love to see it happen but I don't think it will!

Sorry to disappoint but it would be Newcastle who would be after him. Stated objective by Money is to get more players who can play wide not from the UK. We cannot afford him.

Ahh, but we were way under the wage budget this year, or so iv heard. So as long as we didnt up the price 2 much 2 keep our existing squad, I reckon we will see him in the yellow and blue come mid year.

I do not think it is about being over budget. I do not think we have a lot of money. Mind you when we win the GF I am sure it will be easier to attract sponsors.

Mind you when we win the GF I am sure it will be easier to attract sponsors. we are only guesing that Mariners don't have the money that Carney would attract. also, whilst mariners football is attractive, Sydney FC play the typical boring german style game that is not easy to break down..... as seen yestarday... Adelaide was a far more attractive team to watch, but couldn't get past sydney.....
